Chapter Seven: Last Memory
The room was a light blue, my favorite color. There was a white stoned balcony which had sheer floor length curtains to walk through. I ran my hand along the end of the bed; the sheets were beautiful satin and gray.
"You sure you want to sleep?" Rail asked curiously. "I've never seen you sleep before. Or anyone for that matter."
"If you haven't noticed Rail we don't require sleep." I said.
"Then why are you?"
" I have little to no power left in me." I sigh. "I honestly, for the first time, feel tired and I've heard stories of sleep. There is nothing but darkness and peace. I need that right now. I need to gather back my strength"
Rail's skin let out his golden glow and his hands turned into red burning fists.
I turned to stand in front of him. When he looked down at me his eyes sadden. He slowly moved his hand to hold my cheek. I back away slightly, staring at his hand for a long moment.
"Would you like me to stay in here with you?" He looked into my eyes.
Sensing I was uncomfortable he added,"I could sit outside on the balcony if you wish?"
"Alright." I said. He rubbed my cheek with his thumb and left a burning kiss there. I had kissed him once while we flew together one night. It was exciting and something I couldn't put into words. But this was the first time he had ever kissed me and instead of excitement, it made me feel sick.
I pulled the sheets back and climbed into the bed. It felt so bizarre but I laid my head down on the soft pillow and closed my eyes.
I heard footsteps. My eyes shot wide open. I couldn't help but whip around with my hand holding a dim white orb.
"It's just me." Jay held his hands up whispering. He walked over to me and stood at the end of my bed, being careful not to come any closer. "Aderes" his voice cracked. He kneeled in front of me, "I cant tell you how sorry I am that I didn't protect you." His face twisted in pain. "What they did to you-"
"Be silent."
Jay looked down at the floor.
"You know you have put The Heavens at risk? Even Rail in risk now to be killed or banished. I would be the one to do that!" I pointed to myself.
Jay blinked trying to understand, "You betrayed me and him."
"Are you seriously worried about what happens to him?" He said.
"Of course, thats why-"
"What was I supposed to do, Aderes? Let them keep hurting you?" A flash of anger glazed over his eyes. "I had to!"
I glanced over at the balcony lowering my voice. "It was never your secret to tell. That stone carries more power than you can imagine. Lucifer could destroy The Heavens if he wanted to."
"That's impossible." He waved in effort to dismiss it.
I pulled the top of my white dress down. His eyes widened and then searched around the room to stare at anything else. "Um What are you doing?"
Was he blushing?
"Look at me." He advioded looking at me.
"Look at me Jay!" He slowly turned his head towards me and my exposed chested, but his eyes stayed closed.
I used the little power I had to cut my chest with just a swipe of my finger. For the first time it actually hurt. That was a first.
The dim white light that flowed out was enough to make Jay curious and open his eyes.
"What the hell are you doing?!"
"Shh." I looked over at the curtains flowing in front of the balcony door way. Rail didn't seem to have heard anything.
The inside of my chest felt like it was burning and raw. I winced. Finally, I grabbed the smooth green and white stone.
"You still have it?"
"Only half." I sighed. As I held the stone my chest slowly healed but my heart felt heavy with pain and a new emotion that I'd never experience..
"Keep this. Hide it. I don't care, but you have to keep it away from everyone. I don't know who to trust anymore." I stared at Jay. The way he stared back at me reminded me of Rail. Except softer. Rail always outshined Jay, but when you focused long enough, you could see how beautiful Jay really was.
"You need to use the power to heal."
"I can heal without it. It just takes longer." Jay looked back at the cut I made on my chest. There was a white scar with streams of white light peeking through. "Besides, Lucifer knows I have it. He's not going to forget that." I ran my hands through my white hair. "It is possible, Jay. Lucifer can destroy The Heavens if the Cross Stone is complete."
"I fucked up so bad." Tears began to fall quickly down his face. I crawled to the end of the bed and held his tan face. "I'm sorry I told him..I just wanted them to stop."
I pulled him into my weak arms until my head rested against his chest. That was the first time I didn't cringe away from a touch.
"Jayden, I have no words to tell you how grateful I am that you were there. You got..got him to stop."
It grew quite. I just listened to Jays breathing. My eyes flutter closed, I could feel Jay left me up to carry me back to the top of the bed. He laid the blankets over me careful not touch me.
"Jayden?" I mumbled.
"Yes?"
"Will you stay with me?"
