Thirty Six
For Her
"Ugh, my feet hurt." Gray grumbled, Lyon asleep in his arms as he walked.
"Stop whining. We're gonna get in a car soon. We're just gonna stop at my house and dump the candy on the table." Natsu grinned.
"Why not keep them in the buckets?" Lucy tilted her head.
"Because we're gonna get more candy at this party, Lucy. Duh," Natsu scoffed.
It was now nine o'clock. Trick-or-Treating was pretty hectic.
For starters, seventh graders kept hitting on Levy, making Levy extremely uncomfortable as she explained to them how old she actually was as Gajeel threatened to kick their asses.
Mira and Laxus ended up playing pranks on the poor children by jumping out of bushes to scare them, or saying that they came from the depths of Hell to steal candy from people, and if they didn't give the candy up, they'd TP their parents houses after dousing them in eggs and ending Halloween forever. When someone told Laxus "but you look like an angel to me," he responded "Uh, yeah, I am. I came to supervise my girlfriend to make sure she doesn't hurt anyone." Of course, they ended up owning up to their jokes and apologizing. No candy was stolen, thank god.
Erza and Jellal had an all out sword fight in the middle of the street just for the fun of it. Erza was throwing some (pretty sweet) taekwondo into the mix, it kinda looked light Street Fighter or something like that if you ask me. Pantherlily was on the sidewalk earning tons of cuddles from almost everyone. He was definitely enjoying the attention.
Natsu punched another trick-or-treater in the eye because they leapt out of the bushes and he wasn't expecting it. Trick-or-Treating had to end early after he flung his bucket at the child and sprinted away in fear of the kid's parents finding out. Lucy gave a sincere apology on Natsu's behalf and handed the kid some money as a bribe. They happily took it, all of the tears gone. This was probably the most embarrassed Meredy had ever been in her entire life.
Gray and Juvia were probably the only people who had an overall normal trick-or-treating experience. They took tons of great photos and got lots of candy thanks to Lyon.
Finally, Wendy and Romeo's Halloween was pretty hectic. Romeo had to carry Wendy around the whole time, she got tired of walking and complained her feet hurt. She also got mad at Carla for getting her fur dirty, earning a few hisses that made Wendy start to sob. Other than that, it was fun.
Everyone released a sigh of relief as they dumped the candy out of the buckets.
"How was it?" Romeo smiled.
"I punched a ten year old in the face." Natsu mumbled.
"We made tons of kids cry tonight, it was hilarious!" Mira giggled.
"Damn. It's no wonder Angel's such a bitch. She probably has PTSD or something from what you guys put her through—" Gajeel jokes, earning a dark glare from both Mira and Laxus. He sweat, rubbing the back of his head. "Sorry, sorry."
"Well," Levy tried to lighten the mood. "I got hit on by a bunch of middle schoolers."
"Wait what?" Lucy snickered.
"Yeah." Levy laughed. "I feel so bad because I had to explain to them that I'm 21."
"We has a sword fight." Jellal grinned. "It was super epic."
"I saw that." Wendy noted. "Pretty badass."
"Omg thank you so much!" Jellal smiled proudly. "See, Erza? I told you I looked cool!"
"Yeah, yeah." Erza rolled her eyes.
"Excuse me for a moment, I'm gonna go get a jacket before we leave," Mira walked upstairs, returning with Laxus' jacket on. She didn't have her arms in the arm holes, wearing it like a somewhat cape. It was a quite large black leather jacket with fur lining the collar to the bottom and the cuffs. (THE ICONIC ONE OMGOMG)
"Oh? Wearing that one?" Laxus smirked proudly. He loved it when she wore it, one, because she looked amazing in it, two, because when she took it off and gave it back it smelled like her, and three, it showed everybody that she was his, just in case they didn't already know.
"Mhmm." Mira smiled warmly, thin line of blood trailing down her nose.
"WHAT HAS GOTTEN INTO YOU TODAY?" Laxus exclaimed. "CONTROL YOURSELF, WOMAN!"
"Teehee, sorry~" Mira giggled.
"Their anniversary must be coming up." Juvia snickered.
"Lets go! The limo's here!" Natsu beamed, rushing out the door. "Oh, and Meredy, you stay behind. This is a grownup party. Sort the candy if you'd like."
"Please watch Lyon. It's his bedtime so he should be falling asleep any minute now. Call me if something goes wrong," Juvia handed Meredy Lyon gently.
"Okay, bye mama, bye papa." Meredy waved as everyone left.

"Woah." Levy's mouth was wide open as the arrived to the tall hotel.
"Get used to it, love." Gajeel smirked, holding her hand as they got out of the car.
Levy sweat as she looked at everyone once they got out of the car. Lucy and Natsu walked in with their arms connected, waving like royalty and gleaming smiles. Juvia and Gray followed suit. Wendy waddled along with Romeo, earning many "awww"s as they strut by. Mira, however, took the cake. She held her head high and strut with complete and utter confidence across that red carpet. Laxus held back a snicker as he trailed behind her, emotions masked.
"Jesus Christ." Levy mumbled, making Gajeel laugh.
"Mira's literally a model. I don't know what you were expecting." Gajeel laughed. "Don't be nervous. Just walk."
They walked in hand in hand, cameras flashing, but at this point they could care less who saw. Erza and Jellal followed with stone cold glares on their faces. Levy froze as she saw a familiar head of blonde hair. When she closed her eyes and released a shaky breath, they were gone. Maybe she hadn't been sleeping well enough lately?
"Everything ok?" Gajeel rubbed her back.
"Mhmm." Levy nodded.
"To the penthouse!" Natsu exclaimed, clicking the button. When the elevator doors opened, everyone climbing inside.
"Natsu I swear to god. Stop breathing on my damn neck." Gray growled.
"Well I'm sorry, what do you want me to do? Stop breathing?" Natsu glared.
"Precisely." Gray spat.
"No." Natsu smirked, breathing some fresh warm air just to annoy Gray.
"If you don't—" Gray turned sharply.
"There's not enough space in this elevator for you two to do this." Lucy said sternly.
"Yeah, Natsu. You should listen to her." Gray smirked, making Natsu reach forward and yank his hair. Gray turned around and the two started to have a whole mini fight.
"Boys!" Erza boomed, the elevator shaking. The door opened, everyone rushing out. Music was blaring through the speakers, tons of people around.
Ezra's eyes scanned the room for a snack table, widening when she saw plated strawberry shortcakes. "Jellal."
"Hm?" Jellal was pretending to look around the room, already knowing that Erza saw the table.
"Strawberry cakes! We have to go over there now!" Ezra's eyes twinkled as a childlike smile made its way to her face. She grabbed Jellal's hand and dragged him over.
Fuck, she's beautiful. Jellal thought to himself as she did so. He grabbed a plate and one of the forks. "Ew. It's not as good as yours."
"Give it! We can't put a beautiful cake to waste," Erza was in heaven. "The strawberries are so fresh!"
Jellal chuckled, giving up his cake. We looked over to see Gajeel and Levy talking.
"Tonight has been super fun." Levy smiled sweetly. "You're not still mad about the middle schoolers, are you?"
Gajeel was silent, blushing a bit.
"Come on! You can't possibly be jealous of some twelve year olds!" Levy giggled.
"You know? I'm not mad! That just shows how pretty my Shrimp is, gihi!" Gajeel grinned.
Levy blushed. His shrimp... I like that.
"What's with that look?" Gajeel smirked.
"Aaah, it's nothing." Levy smiled. "Let's go dance."
"Dancing? Okay." Gajeel nodded as Levy pulled him over. The song was loud and pumping, the bass vibrating through the room. Gajeel didn't know how to dance to music like this, he'd been trained to waltz but that was about it. Levy moves around sporadically, making Gajeel laugh. "Wow, you can't dance."
"You can't either! You're not even moving!" Levy grinned. "Come on," She bumped Gajeel purposely. "Let's dance."
"I-I don't really know how—" Gajeel played with his hands, making Levy smirk.
"Last time I checked, you can do a pretty mean pole dance." Levy giggled, Gajeel placing a hand over his heart.
"You didn't!" Gajeel gasped. "Stop bringing that up! That never happened!"
"I might erase my memory if you dance." Levy smirked. Gajeel started to move a bit, making Levy clap and smile.
"Yeah! There you go!" She beamed. Gajeel was barely focusing as he danced, too busy staring at Levy. She was just... perfect. Her tiny figure was so delicate, so feminine... he loved that. The way she was a fairy compared to his giant frame... her eyes. Let's not even get started on those. And her lips, they were so soft and sweet, always luring him back for just one more taste. Her hair was oh-so soft and curly, he wanted to play in it all day. And her laugh! Oh, it's just so beautiful, along with every single other aspect of her.
"What's with that look?" Levy grinned.
"Have I told you how much I love you? Or how beautiful you are? God, you're just so perfect." Gajeel and Levy's eyes were one, lost in their red and hazel orbs.
Levy's lips parted. Gajeel bent down and kissed her, Levy kissing back as she wrapped her arms around his neck. He picked her up, the two sharing a sweet kiss. Fireworks started to explode outside, but even those couldn't match the spark inside of their hearts.
When they pulled apart, they stared at one another for a minute. They could faintly hear Mira squealing (well, it was more of a scream) in the background, but who cared?
"I love you. So much." Gajeel said softly.
"I love you too." Levy blushed, smiling softly as she looked at the floor.
"Would you mind if I kissed you again?" Gajeel breathed out, she was just too cute!
"Not at all." And so, the two shared yet another kiss.
"Aw, they're so cute." Wendy smiled, rubbing her belly. "Oh! I think Kinana likes this song!"
"She's kicking?" Romeo's eyes filled with stars. "Let me touch!"
"Fine." Wendy smiled, giggling as Romeo held his hands on her stomach and gasped. He started to rub her tummy, making her laugh. "Stop molesting me!"
"God, you're amazing. I can't believe you're holding a baby in there," Romeo kissed Wendy. Even though she was crazy due to pregnancy hormones, he still loved her more than anything. "I'm so proud of you, Wendy."
Wendy started to cry. "Y-You're the worst! I hate you!"
"You know you don't." Romeo smiled, kissing her neck softly.
"I-I do!" Wendy blushed, stomping her feet.
"I remember when you said that, the bells were ringing. Don't you?" Romeo ran his hand through Wendy's soft blue locks. "That was the best day of my life."
"Me too... but I still hate you!" Wendy punched Romeo, laughing as he groaned.
"Do you smell that?" Erza places down her fourteenth slice of cake as she ignored the stares from others.
"Smell wha— holy shit. Is.. is something on fire?" Jellal perked up, protect mode activated.
"Jellal, get everyone out of here. I'll see if there's a problem." Erza said, requipping into her armor. Jellal kissed her on the cheek.
"She's so cool." Jellal whispered dreamily as he quickly walked away. Before Erza even got to sneak into the kitchen, screams broke out around her.
One of the tables were on fire. She looked to the person nearest to her, Mira and Laxus.
"Quickly! Get out of here!" Mira exclaimed, Laxus and Mira dashing away.
"Gray-sama! Gray-sama, where are you?" Juvia's eyes filled with tears as she tried to push through the crowd. "Gray-sama, I'm scared!"
"Hey." Gray hugged her from behind. "I told you I never wanted you to cry again. Hold on and don't let go no matter what."
He picked Juvia up, rushing through with her in his arms.
Lucy cried out in fear, paralyzed.
"Luce! Hurry!" Natsu called as the flames grew. He rushed over, pulling her. "I know the flames are pretty and might look tasty, but we can look at them in the fireplace instead, okay? I promise."
Lucy nodded, coughing.
"Levy!" The walls started to collapse, smoke filling Gajeel's eyes. "Come here! Hold my hand! Anything! I can't lose you!"
"Gajeel!" Levy's voice was faint, Gajeel wiping his eyes and rushing to the source of sound. She was close to the door.
Gajeel crushed her in a hug. "Thank god you're okay—"
A shelf fell, Gajeel pushing Levy back. The fire started to climb higher, Levy sobbing.
"Gajeel! Come on!" Levy motioned.
"Levy, go. I'll catch up." Gajeel smiled sadly, tears filling his eyes.
"No! I can't leave without you!" Levy sobbed.
"Please." Gajeel whispered. "You can't die because of me. I can't let you."
"Levy!" Erza called, eyes widening. "S-Sir..."
"Erza, take her." Gajeel coughed. "Don't look back, just go."
"B-But—" Ezra's eyes filled with tears.
"That's an order!" Gajeel roared. Erza nodded, picking up Levy despite her protests. It hurt Erza more than anything to see Levy like this while Gajeel was... he was basically dead. He couldn't escape this, no way in hell.
"Goodbye, Gajeel." Erza saluted, rushing away. Levy's screams pierced through the air, Gajeel punching the floor.
"Damnit!" Gajeel grunted, voice cracking. Gajeel's vision started to cloud as smoke filled his lungs. Suddenly, a familiar voice filled the room.
"You know, I really didn't want for it to be this way." Blonde hair. Blue eyes. Tall... "We could've been happy."
Her eyes wore nothing but hatred.
"But she controlled you." Pink lips curled into a smile, voice velvety and soft. "She restrained you, forcing you to feel something that you are not capable of feeling."
"Who..." The room was spinning, Gajeel hitting the floor. "Who are you!? What do you want!?"
"Shh... it's all over now, Gajeel." Soft hands caressed his cheek. "All I wanted was your love, and I can finally have it. You and I, will be together forever. Even if it means we both have to die, so be it!"
Her name swirled through his head, making Gajeel stand and lunge forward. "You!"
But he was too slow, falling once again.
"Now, now, dearest. Please just accept death. The sooner you do, the sooner it'll be over." She hushed him. Gajeel fell silent, hair covering his eyes. "I'm so happy. We can finally be together! This is a dream come true—"
"Shut up." Gajeel growled. "I will never love you, even in the depths of hell. You're a monster, I can't believe I once called you my friend. You disgust me."
"Oh, dearest, don't say such things!" She gasped, rushing forward to give him a hug. "I know you're angry, but you won't be forever! Just accept the beautiful fate I laid out for you—"
Gajeel stood up. "Amelia."
"Yes, honey?" Amelia placed her hands into Gajeel's chest.
"You either live or die. I'm giving you that choice." Gajeel said slowly. "What do you want?"
"I— what are you even asking? If to be with you, I must die, then so be it!" Amelia laughed hysterically.
"You're hopeless." Gajeel grabbed her hand, running across the room. He tripped, falling dangerously close to the fire spread across the floor. It was only so long before it consumed him too...
No. He couldn't let that happen. No matter how much it hurt, he would get back up. For her sake.
He didn't care if he were to die tonight, but she did... His tiny little maid. It would break her heart into millions of pieces scattered across the pavement.
For her, he would run through fire.
Gajeel stood up again, limping toward the window.
For her, he would go through hell and back.
"What are you doing!? Can you not see this is what we're cut out for?" Amelia shrieked, trying to stop him.
For her, he would kill.
"No! I can't accept this!" Gajeel yelled, pushing her back.
For her, he would smile.
"I just want us to be happy!" Amelia's eyes filled with tears.
For her, he would dance.
"Us? You're h-hardly thinking of what... what I want." Gajeel spat.
For her, he would strip.
"This is your last chance. Jump, Amelia!" Gajeel pleaded. "Please! This isn't right! You can't just die like this, it's not worth it!"
For her, he would play tag.
Amelia laughed. "Oh, Gajeel. You're still stupid as ever. If I cannot live in a world where you and I can be together, why live at all?"
For her, he would sing.
"Because there's so much more to live for." Gajeel motioned to outside. "There's a whole world to explore. Maybe there's somebody else, you just have to get out there. I can't let you die. You have to jump."
For her, he would try new things.
"Gajeel, you don't understand. You are my world." Amelia cried.
For her, he would stop lying.
"You haven't even experienced living because of me, and I want to change that." Gajeel started to cry. "Amelia, please."
For her, he would do anything.
She didn't respond. Gajeel jumped out of the window, glass splintering his skin as wind brushed past every inch of him. He prayed to survive.
For her, he would believe.
Amelia nodded, getting ready to jump.
For her, he would live.
The penthouse collapsed along with the next four floors, taking Amelia with it. Gajeel tried to ignore the sounds of the building falling, the sounds leading to his first friends death but... to no avail. He closed his eyes, awaiting what was next.
Sirens wailed as if they were people, paramedics rushing people to the hospital. Firefighters did their best to try and put out the fire as police troops helped evacuate. Levy was uncontrollably sobbing, on her knees. "No..! No no no! He can't be gone!"
"Levy... please," Erza sniffled, wiping her eyes. "He wouldn't want you to cry."
"Oh my god!" Juvia cried into Gray's chest, shaking. "Gajeel!"
"I should probably call grandma." Wendy cried, Romeo hugging her and whispering "I'm sorry" over and over again.
"Oh, oh my." Mira bawled. "Not Gajeel! It was t-too early for him to die!"
"Erza." Jellal wiped his eyes, looking up. "ERZA."
"Wh—" Erza followed his gaze, along with everyone. Erza and Jellal rushed to go catch him, Erza shoving a firefighter out of her way so she could go and get the life net from the truck. Some were working on putting out the fire as they helped people evacuate.
She singlehandedly carried it, rushing to Jellal's side as she tried her best to calculate Gajeel's fall. Juvia, Gray, Lucy, Natsu, Romeo (who told Wendy to stay back, she was much too pregnant to help!), Mira, Laxus, and Levy helping to hold it.
Gajeel hit the life net, barely breathing as paramedics rushed over with stretchers. They loaded him onto it, Levy and Juvia closely following them to the ambulance. Everyone else followed.
"Ma'am's, please step back."
"Please make sure he'll be okay!" Said Juvia, tears rolling down her face.
"We'll try our best, ma'am."
The doors closed and Gajeel was rushed away.
