Chapter Twenty: Fitz

A loud THUMP, followed by hissing and curses, is enough to make my eyes snap wide open. Careful to move too much, I make sure that my breathing hasn't hitched or anything. Already knowing that my heart pace has increased about three times. I then realize that the whispers sound like they're coming from a male, but frown. Donovan would've called my name out or turned the lights on as well. Benen was ruled out when the man started swearing.

Suddenly, I can't help but think that it's Fitton. Before I know it, I'm jumping out of bed and rushing towards the door, not caring about the noise that I'm making. I hear the man curse and then loud footsteps. I see the outline of the door and lunge for it.

And then I feel large arms wrapping around my waist as the man tackles me straight into the door. Sure that I broke some bones somewhere, I groan and stand up again, flicking the light on this time.

When I see Fitton staring back at me with his brown eyes, I immediately lift the possible killer in the air with my telekinesis. He curses madly and swings his limbs around frantically. I'm about to slam the fleeing husband into the ceiling when I feel a sharp pain blossoming from the back of my head, followed by a warm liquid trailing down my shoulder. Groaning, I lose my focus and crumble to my knees instead, dropping Fitton in the process.

Before I know it, Fitton's throwing me across my room. My head bounces forcefully off of the wall I land against before slamming into it again. Shaking my head, I slowly stand myself up. Looking at the kitchen in my room, I use my telekinesis to silently grab a glass from the cupboard. Not letting my eyes look away from Fitton, I slowly bring the glass closer to his head.

Suddenly, the connecting door slams open to show a frantic Sophie. "Fitz!" she shouts. Only when she meets the eyes of Fitton does she pale and stumble back.

When Fitton takes one step towards the female Percipient, I smash the glass against his head. As he falls down, I use telekinesis to pick up all of the glass pieces and arrange them together so they create a thin sword from glass. My panic replaced with anger, I seethe, "Take one more step near her- I dare you."

Fitton doesn't go after her. Instead, he takes another glass and attempts to throw it at me. I duck quickly, and when I hear the glass smashing against the wall behind me, I realize what he's really trying to do.

Getting glass pieces to make a glass sword of his own.

When Fitton grabs his sword, he hisses before pulling back a bloody and repeatedly wounded hand. Instead, he uses his telekinesis to hold it like me. I use this time to try and use my telekinesis to lift him up in the air and drop him, but I manage to only make him lose his firm stance. Fitton then uses his telekinesis to lift me in the air.

I glance over to see Sophie's eyes closed, and I assume that she's transmitting to someone. Probably Laurel or Audrey. When she opens her eyes again, the female Percipient sees Fitton lifting me in the air with telekinesis. Screaming, she whirls around and throws Fitton into the door with her telepathic ability.

I fall down to the ground, but I don't have time to dodge the oncoming glass sword completely. I gasp in pain when the sword cuts a deep wound on my left arm. I then quickly take my shirt off and tie it tightly around my bleeding arm, hopefully buying more time. I then take control over Fitton's sword and throw both glass swords to the side, making them fall apart again. Those weren't going to do us any good at this rate.

I turn just in time to see Sophie lifting a few books around her as possible weapons. When she throws them at him, Fitton stop them just before they hit him. Slipping them back onto my bookshelf, Fitton cackles as he lifts Sophie in the air. Sophie narrows her eyes and lifts him into the air as well, not noticing how she's slowly drifting closer and closer to the ceiling.

Scowling, I use my telekinesis to overpower Sophie and slam Fitton into the ceiling a few times. When he drops, Fitton's hold on Sophie also falters. A few moments before she can hit the ground, I stop her in her tracks, allowing her time to prepare herself for the now small descent. We nod to each other as thanks before looking at Fitton again.

"Go get someone!" I yell to Sophie. She nods and rushes out the door, but not after she hesitantly looks at Fitton Galster. I internally sigh in relief when she goes without resisting. Now that she's gone, Fitton won't be able to distract me from attacking him. Narrowing my eyes, I don't hesitate in slamming Fitton into the door behind him.

But I wouldn't have expected him to open the door and run out.

I curse under my breath as I follow him, trying my hardest to not wince at the still bleeding wound. Thankful that I'm a fast runner, I catch up to him quickly and hiss in his ear, "Where do you think you're going?" I then grab him by his arms and throw him into the wall. Not waiting for him to get up again, I lift him up slightly and toss him across the hallway, near my bedroom door.

Fitton gets up slowly, staggering to the side and using my door as support. Using telekinesis to lift himself in the air, he charges at me like a bullet. I use my own telekinesis to stop him, but the force he exerts causes me to slide back a bit. Fitton then lands onto the ground and scrambles towards the elevator, which opens immediately.

I see what Fitton's trying to do and fly in after him before Fitton can close the door. Cursing, he throws me into the ceiling of the elevator so he can press the button for the ground floor. Knowing that now I can't cancel the command, I slam Fitton into the ground, the ceiling, and then the ground again in an attempt to render him unconscious.

Unfortunately, Fitton's still conscious. He grabs me, his bloody hand on my wound, and throws me into the closed metal doors. I then fall onto the ground before colliding with the ceiling like Fitton moments before. That's going to leave some bruises, I think to myself when I land on my back due to gravity, all of the wind being forcefully knocked out of me.

When I get up, I find that the elevator doors have opened and Fitton's already bolting out. Not trusting my body at the moment, I use my telekinesis to levitate myself outside. Landing on the ground, I fling Fitton backwards. I duck so Fitton will hit the elevator behind me instead of bring me to the ground as well.

I straighten my posture up again only to be tackled to the ground again. I roll over to see a crazed Fitton throw desperate punches left and right. Thankfully dodging them, I lift Fitton off of me before using most of my energy to kick Fitton in the air. Scrambling to get up, I use my telekinesis to lift me up and throw myself at him, holding Fitton out in front of me as we both near the ground.

I hear the ding of an elevator and see Sophie rush out. Mentally cursing her for coming at this specific moment and endangering herself again, I turn and force Fitton to crash into the wall again. What are you doing here?! I transmit to her, jumping out of the way when Fitton shoots himself towards me.

Laurel and Benen are getting Mr. Wallace right now, Sophie transmits to me. Before she continues, Sophie picks Fitton up before he can use telekinesis on me and makes him skid across the floor. Laurel and Benen are together, so both of them are invisible. Audrey and Donovan are sleeping, and I even tried to break down Donovan's door since his is only protected by a lock.

Sighing, I nod in comprehension before staring at Fitton again. I see him throw something at me from the shimmer of something small coming at me. My eyes widening, I use my telekinesis to overpower Fitton and send the unknown object back at Fitton. I watch as it lands on Fitton's forehead before he screams. Fitton crumbles to his knees, clutching his forehead. Frowning, I wonder if I just shot one of those small, teal crystals at him. With that, I make a mental note to always carry my prostrator with me from this moment on.

After a few minutes of screaming from I can only assume is pain, Fitton stands up. Looking as if he's on the brink of unconsciousness, he glares at me specifically. "You're advancing far mercurially than they've estimated," he breathes out. He begins to fall forward as if he fell asleep upright. His eyes then shoot open and he manages to catch himself before he lands on the ground.

I'm so in shock about what he just said that Fitton suddenly disappears before I can stop him. And judging by how Sophie's frozen to her spot, I'm not the only one.

Suddenly, the lights go from dim to unnaturally bright. I groan in annoyance and cover my eyes. "Who's there?" I ask, shielding my eyes still. Once my eyes have finally adjusted to the brightness, I uncover my eyes to see Laurel, Benen, and Mr. Wallace staring at me with wide eyes. "What?" I ask when Mr. Wallace curses under his breath.

Sophie looks at me curiously before gasping. "Fitz..." she says, her voice trailing off after she says my name.

I repeat myself, "What?"

The elevator opens with a ding, and both Sovereigns exit out. "Sophie woke me up," Audrey explains. She points to the male Sovereigns, who sleepily glares at his respective partner. "So I woke Donovan up as well. What's the big-" She stops when her eyes land on me. "Oh, dang."

Donovan also stares at me. "Shoot," he mutters before letting loose a slew of foul words.

"What?!" I ask in exasperation. "Is Fitton still here?" When I see nothing, I see that they're looking at me. Sighing, I look down at myself. I then see that my chest is covered with black and blue bruises from fighting Fitton. My bright red shirt that I tied around my wound is practically black from soaking up so much blood. I hiss when I realize that the wound is still bleeding. Speaking of blood, I feel the back of my neck to feel no dried blood on my back anymore. Assuming that the bleeding of my head stopped before I tied my wound up, I touch my head to feel raw agony blare like horns through my head. I close my eyes as an attempt to numb every so slightly.

When I open my eyes again after a few seconds, I see that I have to push myself off of the ground. Hissing in pain, I stand myself up. Shaking my head, I find that everyone suddenly moved closer to me. I look over at Sophie for an explanation.

"You blacked out temporarily," Sophie says, her voice laced with genuine worry and concern. "Fitton, on the other hand, regained consciousness as he was falling down. You fell before you regained your consciousness. You worried us..."

I shake my head. Putting a hand to the back of my head gingerly, I try my best to smile and say, "Sorry about that. I'll try my best to stay conscious."

"You did just fight against a grown man who has the same powers as you," Donovan points out, rolling his eyes. "You are one heck of a man, Fitz Vacker."

"One heck of a man," Benen echoes.

Chuckling lightly, I nod before more agony spreads throughout my head. I mentally curse as I try to fight the pain and stay awake. My fingers must've brushed against the wound again. Suddenly, another wave of throes washing over me. I close my eyes again to help numb the pain.

And this time, it works completely. So I keep my eyes closed.
