The Audition

Oh Dear.

With a heavy sigh, you flopped down on the couch defeatedly. You were quite nervous for your audition coming up soon, especially because your close friend Thomas was also auditioning for the role you wanted.

It's not easy being friends with Thomas. After all, he was already more at an advantage compared to where you were in acting. The sensational YouTube had quite the following on social media, and he's already had experience in acting to a larger audience.

And here you were, at his place, waiting for him to finish getting ready for the day.

The personalities were roaming around the room, but you paid no attention to them. Patton tried to coax you with homemade cookies and even Logan tried to catch your attention with an interesting logical game, but to no avail. You weren't in the mood to entertain anyone right now.

Surprisingly, they left you alone, respecting your need to be with your thoughts. All except for one.

"Hello (y/n)," a lilting voice purred. Knowing exactly who that voice belonged to, you looked up with an unamused and very impatient grimace.

"Leave me alone, Deceit," you retorted and went back to your thoughts in peace. Though, that didn't last for too long.

"(Y/n)," he purred once more, having the audacity to sit down next to you. What part of 'leave me alone' does he not understand?

Still, the cunning snake turned towards you and tilted his head in confusion. Though the man was quite deceitful and selfish, even he felt uncomfortable with your strange behavior. He wondered what on Earth could be the reason why you were so upset. Deceit had to get to the bottom of this.

"My dear, what are you thinking about?" he attempted at first, not wanting to startle you with a blunt question such as why you were feeling so down. He of all people knew the first defense was to lie to others so they wouldn't worry about your sadness.

"I'm just thinking about the audition," you replied back, getting more comfortable with his company. Deceit was annoying, sure, but he was still one of Thomas' personalities. Thomas, throughout his being, was a wonderful and caring friend. Even Deceit had a bit of care in him.

That answer, of course, did not convince the deceptive personality enough. He continued to press on. "Are you nervous about it?" He asked carefully.

Of course, he knew the answer to such an obvious question, but he needed to start with a basic question in order to warm you up for the more specific ones that directly ask you of why you were so off today.

You knew what Deceit was doing. After all, this wasn't the first time he tried to be so cunning with you. You turned to him with a grim smile, bold enough to pat him on the shoulder. Good on him for trying his best to cheer you up and support you.

"I know what you're wanting to ask, Deceit, and I guess I will give you my honest answer," you finally relented to him with a sigh. You looked back to stare at nothing in particular as you finally fessed up.

"I am nervous, but not just because of the audition process itself." You looked over at him from the corner of your eye, and for the first time, he was actually listening to you. You continued. "I am nervous because Thomas is auditioning too."

Well. that was the first time you admitted that out loud.

Looking downcast, you let your thoughts and feelings flow out of you for once. "He has so much more fame and experience than I do. I know I've had my fair share of acting experience as well, but dammit! It gets so intimidating at times to be friends with him -- !"

Your eyes widened in shock, and you forced yourself to stop talking. You most definitely did not want to let the other personalities hear you, as they would take such a statement and twist it to mean something more sinister than it should be. The last thing you wanted to do is break your friendship with Thomas.

Deceit was shocked at the outburst, but he understood. He knew what it was like to feel overlooked, overshadowed by the other personalities constantly. He was always made out to be the bad guy, the deceptively evil madman that nobody is supposed to like. He could imagine that you felt the same way with how you saw yourself in comparison to Thomas.

It was time for him to do the right thing, for once.

"(Y/n)," he started. "Just because Thomas has had . . different opportunities than you have, doesn't mean you have to discredit your own experiences and opportunities as well."

A shocked look crossed your features, but he continued nonetheless.

"All you can do now is try your best and give your all in this audition. You and Thomas are in different time slots, so you don't have to think about him when you audition! For all it's worth, I'm sure that you will give a wonderful performance today."

For the first time, you were stunned to a wordless wonder. You've never heard such compliments spill out of Deceit's mouth, but you just had to make sure one final time.

"Is that the truth?" you asked hesitantly.

Deceit let out a chuckle, but he responded nonetheless.

"I may lie constantly, but with you . ." he trailed off and looked away before looking right back into your eyes with a reassuring smile.

"I could never lie to you."
