Angelis

Kate listened as the family around her which was talking non-stop seemed to turn into a single buzz in the back of her ears, though she wasn't listening to the words she could hear the excitement behind them.
Her family was congratulating her as if she had just won a contest in first place when really it felt like the ground beneath her had fallen away, she was staring at her hands where the white flames had been and while they weren't visible she could still feel the cold they emitted. Like running your hands under water or feeling the wind through your hair, it was soothing and it made her tremble.

"Can someone please! Tell me what the heck is going on?"

Kate's mother seemed surprised before clearing her throat and fixing her collar, smiling eerily.
"You, my little dove, are a witch. We all are, blessed by the first witch in our bloodline Clarice Rowletty. But you my dove are a special one."

The elderly woman who had calmed the fire in Kate's hands stepped forward, she still had no grasp on who she was. Of course, she was a relative but she couldn't quite remember who.

"Kate my dear, you are the first Angelis we have seen in a few decades. They are quite a rare breed nowadays but our bloodline used to have quite a lot up until about a millenium ago."

Sometimes the more they spoke the less sense they made and it caused a whirl of emotion to rise in her chest, the white flames glowing beneath the skin of Kate's palms. It caught their attention and so the elderly woman snapped her fingers in front of Kate's face to capture her awareness, her voice turning grave.
"Kate. These powers are not to be used without care, they are strong and dangerous if not used correctly."

"What do they even do!?"

Her wrinkles lifted slightly as she patted the young girl's hand, a large ivory book being brought to them.
"You're known as an Angelis, a being of pure light with the ability to heal and bring life. You also have the power to abolish Darkouls, beings of shadow and death."

Beings of shadow and death...
The book that was brought over was gently pushed into the young girls hands, her elder relative meeting her eyes of curiousity and bewilderment with wisdom.

"This is your very own spellbook, it has a copy of every spell every witch in our family has ever created and pages for you to add your own spells. Be warned Katherine every spell this book holds is strong and craved after by the Evils of this world and Inbetween, while it is under protective charms and spells it's not untouchable."

The information was swimming around in her mind, like a crushing weight on her shoulders to the point where she quickly excused herself to her bedroom, the book pressed tightly against her chest. A day ago all that was on her mind was studying for her exams and how the future of the family relied on her, as if that wasn't enough let's add a witch bloodline to it.
Kate sighed and fell into her bed for comfort, looking up by her pillows at her blue octopus stuffed animal.

"Oh Starlight, what should I do? I barely had a handle on everything else, how can I possibly handle being a witch?"

Of course, there was no response but in her mind Kate could hear the reasoning of her fuzzy friend. Bringing her close and opening the spellbook to read together, the front page written on by handwriting she could tell was her mothers.
'Kate,
We are so proud and excited for you to recieve your first powers and become the witch you were born to be, this is a tremendous responsiblity and we can't wait to see you succeed.
You were born for this, please be safe little Dove.

Love Always, Your Family And Coven.'

Kate frowned and whispered,
"Yeah, no pressure or anything..."

With a sigh she moved through the first few pages seeing spells of all sorts, from growing nature to birthing spells. She paused when seeing the first page with a drawing of a man, he had long pointed ears and cat-like eyes. What Kate imagined as a devil tail and even wings that resembled a bat, reading aloud.
"'Weylin, The Demon of Chaos. The first demon I've encountered and fought, he wasn't as strong as his older brothers but he was more cunning. He's smart and he did abandon the fight and the chase for my spellbook but I don't think he will stay away, future witches beware of this demon.'"

After flipping through a few more pages Kate closed the book and curled up in her bed, thinking over the entire thing and bringing up her hand to stare at her palm. Slowly the icy flames emitted from her skin once more, lighting up her face and glowing in her eyes.
It was bewildering to stare at the white fire that flicked and kissed the air, the flames only dying out when her eyes closed and she drifted off to sleep.
