Seventy-Two
Pike looked up at his mother, concerned.
Keith panted hard, sweat dotting his forehead. One hand was placed on his overly-swollen belly, the other on the wall for support.
"Mommy?"
"I-I'm okay, baby..." Keith gulped, slowly breathing out. "We just... Need to make it to the med bay... We need to get there before the next contraction..."
Pike pouted slightly, quickly grabbing onto Keith's leg as the castle trembled. Keith's fingers tangled in Pike's curls. "It's okay, Pike... Come on."
The four-year-old slowly nodded, following Keith down the hall to the medical bay.
~
"Uh, guys? Someone just activated the medbay!" Pidge shouted, looking at the panel screen the information to her.
"Could it be Keith!?" Lance yelped, dodging out of Hunk's way.
Pidge huffed. "I'll check." She quickly ducked out of range, typing one-handedly to connect with the medical bay's communications. "Hey, Keith? That you?"
"Y-yes..."
The green paladin blinked at the strain in the red paladin's voice. "Hey... Are you okay?"
"No... No, my... Contractions are only two minutes apart..."
"Aw, hell." Pidge grumbled, biting her lip. "Matt won't be back for another week... Shit..."
"Pidge, what's going on!? Is it Keith!?" Lance yelled, as he flew through a barrage of fighters.
"Yeah... It's Keith. Shiro, I'm turning back to the castle!"
"How long do you think you'll be?"
Pidge bit her lip as she turned back. "No clue. A couple hours?"
Shiro breathed deeply, then sighed softly. "Alright. We've got this."
Hunk pulled back. "Pidge is leaving!? Why are you leaving!? Don't leave me!"
~
Pidge dashed into the medical bay. "Right now!?"
"Right now!" Keith hissed through his teeth, straining, gripping the rails of the bed as he squatted.
Pike whimpered, standing not too far from Keith and clutching his blanket to his chest.
The green paladin hurried over. "Where's Rosályn?"
"Room..." Pike answered for his mother as the contraction finally started to subside.
Pidge nodded, gently grabbing Keith's arm. "How far apart?"
Keith panted, standing back up slowly. "Th-thirty seconds..."
"Damn it..." Pidge fixed the pillows and grabbed more. "Bed, now. Come on." She helped her fellow paladin into the bed then sits at the end of it. "Keith, you're going to have to bear with me. I have no idea what the hell I am doing, but Matt is not back, Allura is busy on the bridge and everyone else is still fighting."
Keith nodded, gripping the railing. He tilted his head as the mattress dipped beside him. "Hey, baby boy..."
Pike whimpered, laying on Keith's chest. "Mommy... I scared..."
"Don't be..." Keith murmured, then clenched his jaw and tensed up tight as another contraction hit him. "I-it's just y-your brother... Or s-sister..."
"Shit... Keith try not to push. You're only eight and a a half centimeters dialated." Pidge muttered, brows furrowing.
Keith groaned, dropping his head back. "Fuck..."
Pike whined, patting Keith's chest. "Mommy, no say that! Auntie Pidge, no say that!"
"S-sorry, bubba..." Keith shaking pet Pike's hair back. "Mommy just... R-really hurts right now..."
"Well, you're dialating pretty fast. I think you could start pushing in like... I dunno a minute or two." Pidge murmured with a shrug. Keith huffed, tilting his head to the side. "Sorry I'm not a professional, geez. This is why Matt shouldn't have taken that second mission."
Keith nodded, gripping the railing. "Oh my God, it hurts! I forgot how much it hurts!"
Pike sobbed, wrapping his arms tightly around Keith's neck. Pidge covered Keith's legs with a blanket.
Pidge grit her teeth. "Damn it... I seriously need some fucking help, but apparently that is way too much to ask for out here." Keith nodded in agreement.
The green paladin got up and scampered for the tools she'd need once the twins were out. She sat back down as Keith whimpered and arched, knuckles white from gripping the railing so tightly.
"Okay, okay." Pidge breathed deeply. "Okay. I'm gonna call Matt."
Keith gasped, pulling himself up. "Pidge! No time!"
She nodded rapidly, pulling out her communicator and calling her brother. "Oh yes there is! There is no way I can safely help you deliver these babies by myself! Matthew, thank God!"
"Pidge, what the hell? Why are you yelling?"
She shrugged. "I dunno. Maybe because I have no fucking clue how to do this!" She turned the camera to give him a look between Keith's legs.
"Shit- Pidge!" Keith yelped, face now flushed with embarrassment, even though Matthew was there for Rosályn's and Pike's births.
"Oh... Damn it. I'm too far away and he's ready to push now."
"Damn right I am!"
"Mommy!"
"Alright, Pidge. You're going to have to do exactly as I say."
"Okay..."
Pidge followed each of her brother's instructions, glancing up every-so-often to Pike and Keith.
"Okay, Keith... It's time to start pushing."
Keith shook his head. "L-Lance... W-where's Lance..?"
Pidge bit her lip, snapping her head up as the door opened and the blue paladin bolted over.
"I'm here, I'm right here! I didn't miss anything did I?"
Keith shook his head, gripping Lance's hand. "Lance... It hurts..."
Lance nodded, helping Keith up as he gets up onto the bed behind Keith. "Okay..." He let Keith grip onto his hands as tightly as she could. Pike still held onto Keith.
"Alright. Okay, Keith. It's time to start."
Keith nodded, leaning back on Lance, head resting on his shoulder.
Pidge breathed deeply, looking down at her communicator. "Matt?"
"Keith, on three. One... Two... Three..."
The red paladin clenched his jaw, tensing up and whining as he pushed as hard as he could. He cried and gasped, falling limp once he was told he could relax.
Lance kissed Keith's shoulder, squeezing Keith's hands. "You're doing so good... We'll have those babies out in no time."
"Alright. Ready?" Keith nodded. "Okay. You're going to have to push without my say so after this. I have to go out and fight."
Keith whimpered, gripping Lance's hands. "O-okay..."
Matthew took a deep breath. "Okay... Alright, push, Keith..."
Keith pushed hard, screaming into it. Pike covered his ears, sobbing into Keith's chest. Lance murmured softly into Keith's ear, encouraging him.
"I see their head!" Pidge gasped, scooting closer as Keith slumped back onto Lance's chest. "Alright! Okay, I can do this!"
"I feel so relieved..." Keith grumbled, rolling his head to the side. Pidge shot him a glare. "Okay... I need..."
Lance nodded, rubbing Keith's knuckles with his thumbs. "You can do this, babe. You got this."
Keith smiled slightly. "I love you..."
"I love you, too..."
After a few deep breaths, Keith steeled his grip on Lance's hands, crying through his teeth as he pushed, hunching forward.
Pidge reached beneath the blanket with a smaller blanket. "Okay... Keep... Keep pushing, Keith!"
He screamed, tossing his head back.
"I have them!" Pidge yelped, pulling back as she wraps the blanket around the baby. She clamped the cord and carefully cut. Keith panted hard, watching her. Pidge furrowed her brows, patting the baby's back.
They shuddered and whimpered, then started to cry. Keith fell back on Lance in relief, sobbing softly.
Pidge smiled, wiping off the baby. "A little girl." She murmured, standing up and walking around to show them.
Pike perked up and twisted, getting up onto his knees to peek at his little sibling. "A sister?"
She nodded, letting Pike softly touch the baby's cheek. Keith admired her, smiling softly.
"She's so beautiful... Lance, she looks just like me..."
Lance chuckled softly, nodding. "Yeah, she does..."
Pidge carefully lay the baby down in the Altean incubator and closed it, then returned to her seat at the other end of the bed.
Keith whimpered softly, shaking his head.
"Alright. Just a few more pushes and it'll be over." Pidge encouraged, looking up at him.
Pike wriggled off the bed. "More? But there already a baby?"
Pidge smiled, watching as Pike scuffled over to the occupied incubator. "Yup, but your mom still has one more baby in his belly."
"Another baby!?" Pike gasped and Lance grinned at him.
Keith whined. "Can we just... Get this one out, too?"
Pidge nodded, scooting close with another blanket. "Okay, Keith..."
The red paladin screamed and cried, tears streaking his cheeks. Pike distracted himself with watching the baby.
A few pushes later, and Pidge was cutting another cord and cradling a crying baby. She grinned and shook her head, giggling as Pike bolted back, pulling himself back up onto the bed. Pike stood on the bed beside his parents as Pidge sat on the edge to show them their newest baby.
"Pike... I feel just a little bad for you."
The boy furrowed his brows as Keith shakily took his baby. "Why?"
"Because your mom just pushed out two sisters and no brothers."
