Chapter 60: All About Edel

N: Saxon stood up and accepted his gift, looking down at the Tamordo in his hands, "I don't know what to say," the entity spoke, "thank you."

"Oh no," Anglo softly chuckled, "Saxon has acquired a new toy. Hopefully he doesn't hurt himself with it."

The entity rolled his eyes, "No I won't," he did a quick spin to test it out, "besides I might finally get the edge over Celtica."

"You have to beat Rowen first," England laughed, getting a grumble from Saxon, "practice and you can do better than Derogan here, you know, a kid."

"Are you suggesting something," Saxon raised a brow, walking over to his son, "do you want to verse me?" He held the double-edged spear in front of the Englishman, daring him to take it. He shook his head as he held his arms in defeat, but he was still laughing anyway.

M: "Hey," Derogan said in indignation.

"Easy Derogan, no need to get riled up either," Mandoria said, placing a hand on his son's shoulders, then looked to the English, "how about we all calm down and you get ready to leave, would you still like a cart or just horses."

N: "I think the horses would be fine," Anglo answered, "if the English knights behave themselves then we would have a smooth journey home."

"But don't forget the French," Saxon reminded, "they have to leave eventually. They have been here for, how long, two weeks, and I doubt French Empire would be particularly happy about that."

M: "Yeah well, that's what she gets for letting them come here in the first place," Mandoria grumbled, "she is well aware that I don't like military groups from other nations in my kingdom unannounced and not accompanied by their countryhuman. England and his knights are getting a pass this time but next time there will be consequences."

"What, so locking them in the dungeon for two days is not consequence enough," Rowen stated, "or the fact that we had to eradicate their camp to take them into custody in the first place."

Mandoria opened his mouth to protest but Rowen had a point, so he simply said, "fair enough." He cleared his throat before adding, "anyway, we will get the provisions and horses ready and like Celtica, you will be escorted out so you can make it past the border, I don't suppose you have any favored horses, Anglo and Saxon?"

N: Both of them shook their heads, "I think we are fine," Anglo said.

"Wait, let me get something," England suddenly said and ran out of the room. A few minutes later he brought back his fathers' quilts, his quilt, and had the feathers back in his hair. As well as this, he walked up to Saxon and handed him a dark eyepatch, a teal wolf emblazoned on it. "I better give this to you before I forget," the country spoke, "I was going to give it to you when you were to be captured, but obviously things didn't turn out as planned, but luckily it was kept safe."

The entity tilted his head as he rubbed his thumb over the stitching, "I knew that you wouldn't have felt comfortable with your entity eyes," the young country continued, "so I thought you would want it, but you seem comfortable enough right now." Saxon looked up at England and genuinely smiled, nodding in thanks, and tied the eyepatch around his arm for the time being.

Anglo smiled at the sight and turned back to Mandoria, "hopefully the preparations will not take too long?"

M: "Not at all," Mandoria said, "since you all already have what you need we just need to prepare saddle bags with provisions and saddle the horses, that should only take an hour at most."

Mandara walked up to Saxon and poked the eyepatch on his arm, "it looks like Ora, that's pretty cool, how did you know that Saxon and I encountered Ora?"

N: "I didn't," England replied, but he kept a mental note to ask, "Faeder has had it as long as I could remember."

Saxon nodded, "I've had it ever since I became an entity. It was given to me when my Vater died, but I obviously wasn't going to have his, so I redesigned it. Before it was a red outline of a bear and now it's a teal wolf to show it is mine." He inspected the eyepatch on his arm, unwrapped it, and gave it to Mandara so he could see it better, "having two black sclera certainly attracts attention, so I would cover one because there are some countries who would have a colored sclera so I would less out of place, even if it is black."

After some thought, the entity continued, "I do not remember my exact reason why I chose a wolf, something about them attracts me," he looked down at the prince, "and maybe it was a sign that we were going to meet Ora."

M: "Maybe," Mandara nodded, "I just think it's cool."

Mandoria smiled at his son's fascination with the eyepatch, "well, while you all entertain yourselves with the eyepatch, Rowen and I need to work on the preparations for your departure, we'll see you in an hour."

With that Mandoria and Rowen took their leave, and almost immediately Edel realized that he hadn't sat on Anglo yet so decided to do just that, pulling him down by his shirt and sitting on him.

"Guess someone had to get one more roosting in before you all left," Derogan said through laughs.

N: Anglo yelped as he was pulled under Edel, his fearful face quickly disappearing underneath the fur, while Saxon and England laughed when it happened.

"Are you good under there, Phoenix," Saxon asked between laughs, "welcome to the club, where everyone gets sat on by Edel."

The country's words only came through as muffled noises, struggling against the dragon to free himself but eventually, he stopped. Managing to poke his head through he spoke to England, "I do not know why you were complaining. It's very comfortable under here."

"Maybe for you," England grumbled, "but when you become the personal seat of a dragon you just wonder where life went wrong."

"Or right," the entity smiled as he nudged the country, "now you got another parent."

M: Edel responded by reaching out and licking Saxon, his forked tongue engulfing the entity's face, earning more laughter from the children.

"And now you have joined the club of getting kisses from Edel," Mandara announced, "Edel you can't sit on Anglo they are leaving soon."

"In an hour," Derogan reminded him, "he can sit on him for a bit, you know what, I'll go get Edel a treat for managing to sit on everyone." he ran off to do just that.

"Maybe he'll try to feed Anglo," Mandara wondered out loud, "I wonder if dragons feed their babies like birds do, that would be gross."

N: Anglo grumbled in disgust, "Hopefully not," he patted Edel on the side, "you won't do that to me, right?"

"That would be both funny and gross to watch," Saxon commented as he wiped away the dragon's saliva from his face, "but remember, England is Edel's baby, not Anglo, so maybe he should feed him."

"NOPE!" England shrieked as he somehow hid behind Mandara, "that is not happening."

M: "I guess we'll find out," Mandara said, they didn't have to wait long as Derogan came back with a gigantic fish in hand.

"I remember Father saying that a dragon's favorite food was fish, so l asked the cooks for a dragon-sized one and they gave me a freaking pike, I didn't even know we had those here," Derogan explained, struggling to keep a hold of the slippery-scaled fish.

Edel saw the fish and jumped off Anglo, practically running over to the prince and snatching it out of his hands. He chomped on it a few times then swallowed it whole, licking his teeth after.

"Woah, guess he was hungry," Mandara said in surprise at how fast the reptile moved.

N: "I can't blame him," Johann piped up, rushing over to Edel and hugged the dragon, "it's his breakfast anyway."

"And you had too much of yours," Saxon commented, walking over to Anglo and helping him up, "are you good?"

"Yep, I'm fine," the boy answered, but he said it so quickly that it sounded like he said a single word, and he faced Derogan, "Do you think Edel is still hungry because ich glaube nicht, dass ein Fisch genug ist (I don't think that one fish is enough) for a dragon."

Anglo blinked a couple of times when he heard the boy rapidly switch between German and English, and after overcoming his own confusion he translated for the rest of the group.

M: "Probably, are you still hungry Edel," Derogan asked, he got his answer when the dragon started sniffing him like he was looking for more fish, "I'll get some more then."

"Looks like we are going to have quite the mouth to feed," Mandara stated the obvious, "it's going to be hard to keep up so hopefully, he learns how to hunt when he gets better. Oh, I wonder how his injuries are, he moved pretty fast so maybe dragons heal fast."

N: "Maybe," England said, "or maybe he moved fast because he forgot he was injured and only saw the food, and wanted to get it."

"Don't be such a pess-i-mist," Johann scolded, running his hand over Edel's bandages, "you don't know how quickly a dragon heals." The country only shrugged as he watched the boy check the dragon's injuries.

Johann looked up to the bandage over Edel's eye, "Edel, do you think you could take that one off?"

M: Edel tilted his head like he was confused about the question, Mandara decided to come over and do it for him, saying, "probably not, he's a dragon after all, he would probably just scratch himself with his claws." Mandara motioned for Edel to lay his head down so he could work, the reptile complied and held still as Mandara unwrapped his face.

When the bandages were removed, the claw marks were looking better, they were a little red from still healing and were scabbed over but otherwise fine. Edel didn't hold his eyelid shut so his empty socket was still visible, Mandara paid that little mind.

"You looked much better big guy," Mandara smiled, giving Edel chin scratches, "I'd say a few more days and they will be all healed up."

N: Johann scrunched up his face when he saw Edel's empty eye socket, but otherwise he didn't say anything, patting his head, "You're doing great, Edel."

M: Edel purred and licked Johann's face, rolling over for belly rubs while Mandara unwrapped the rest of his bandages. Everything was healing great and most of the injuries might not even leave any scars, but when Mandara unwrapped his tail and the remaining tail fin flexed he sighed.

"I don't think Edel will be able to fly now," Mandara said sadly, "with only one tail fin it would be next to impossible. There is a legend of how Empyr lost his tail in a battle with a mountain giant, the giant took his tail as a trophy and Empyr couldn't fly for a thousand years until a knight named Heward defeated the giant and returned his tail, but Edel has no fin to return, so now he can't fly."

N: Johann looked over to the tail as he gave Edel his belly rubs, and he stopped at the sight of the single tail fin. Maybe because of his overdose of sugar, or maybe because he cared for Edel, his brain was working at a fast and slightly chaotic speed to try to help the dragon.

"It may sound really crazy and stupid," the boy spoke, "but since there is no fin to return, why don't we give him a new fin? Just hear me out. Hezyka has a prosthetic leg and it helps him walk, so why can't we make Edel a prosthetic fin and he can use it?"

"The only problem for that it would have to move," Anglo pointed out, "the tail fin helps him to change direction, like the rudder of a boat, so he would need to control it. If it's a prosthetic, it wouldn't work."

"But," Johann said, frustrated that he couldn't help Edel, "but-argh I don't know what to do. We have to do something, I mean, you wouldn't like it if you have wings but are unable to fly, would you?"

M: Mandara nodded in agreement, "no, it's a terrible feeling, our bones are hollow so they are easier to break, our wings are especially delicate if we're not careful, so those times when they get hurt and we are grounded for a while are really frustrating, we need to be up in the air, that's where we feel most free."

Mandara proved his point by taking flight and hovering, which in the large dining room wasn't hard to do, Edel watched him flying and stood on his rear legs like a cat tracking a bird.

Conveniently, Rowen came in at that moment with Derogan, he was in the kitchen when the prince came in for more food for Edel and helped him gather enough, now they were pushing a serving cart that had hunks of meat and fish.

"Mandara, come down from there, you know the rules, no flying inside," the adult scolded him.

"Sorry," Mandara said, touching down soon after.

Edel smelled the meat and bolted for it, Rowen and Derogan jumped out of the way while the dragon started tearing the cart apart to get the food.

"Tes Muler." Rowen said, "I think it is safe to say that Edel is not someone you want to forget to feed.

N: Johann laughed when he saw Edel munching on the food, "Don't take all the food, leave some for the rest of us."

"It's fine that he's eating all the food," England added, "and not regurgitating it for the rest of us, so I'm good with that."

"Edel better learn how to hunt," Saxon chuckled, "with a stomach that big, you would end up with a food shortage on your hands." He winched when Anglo proceeded to slap him upside the head with his wing.
