Chapter 56: A Dance to Remember

N: Saxon patted Mandara's head and smiled, "Well I am honored to be part of this family." Anglo nodded in agreement

"If Saxon is your father," England spoke up, silent from seeing the entity's previous state, "then that means that I'm your brother."

"And now we can use this as proof that Derogan is actually related to the British," Johann said, nudging the prince, "slap on a posh accent, and bam, you're English."

M: Derogan could help but laugh at that, "ok, let me try; I do say, dear England, it is a great honor to declare you part of the family, perhaps to celebrate this special occasion we may go out for tea and crumpets, or perhaps a game of croquet."

Mandara laughed at Derogan's "poshness" and Rowen covered his mouth to hide his snickers.

N: England just opened his mouth to respond but was dumbfounded by the accent, so he closed his mouth and pouted.

However, when Saxon heard Derogan, he immediately howled with laughter right in front of his son. England gave him the stink eye, "why are you laughing, you sometimes speak like that too."

"But I'm not the one who prizes their accent," the entity laughed,  "remember when you kept on saying 'lovely jubbly' to everything?"

"And we are going to stop there, gentlemen," England spoke quickly after the entity, and loudly to cover him up, "there is no need to come at me." He glanced over to the entity, and noticed him smirking, "what is it?"

After a couple seconds of silence, Saxon asked, "Biscuits or cookies?"

"Don't get me started on that," the country replied, visibly annoyed by the question, "BE and I are forever going to be furious at Netherlands for introducing that to America."

M: "For us we say felwen, it is used for just about any baked good; biscuits, cookies, muffins, bread, or brownies, it's the word you add after it that matters the most," Rowen explained, "felwen marren means "loaf of bread'. Felwen hampel means "batch of cookies'. And felwen ceenjebn means "flock of cakes'"

"I still don't understand why it is called a flock of cakes," Mandara said, finally getting off of Saxon to let him sit up, "what happened to call them that, did a bunch of cakes just decided to fly away one day?"

N: Saxon shrugged when he sat up, "I don't know, maybe they made some fairy cakes and thought that they could fly." Anglo shook his head with disappointment, so the entity added, "or maybe someone saw Anglo fly off with some cake."

The country only rolled his eyes at the suggestion, "Yeah, that definitely happened. But there are some other collective nouns that are weird, like a gaggle of geese, or a glaring of cats."

"It is weird," Johann said, "but cats sure do glare."

M: "Army of frogs," Derogan added.

"Ambush of tigers," Mandara joined in.

"A sloth of bears, Rowen stated.

Silver Streak cawed and Mandara translated, "Murder of crows."

"Is there a collective noun for countryhumans," Rowen asked.

"I don't think so," Derogan said, "we should make one, how about ... a senate of Countryhumans?"

N: "A union of countryhumans," England suggested, but his parents shook his head.

"Senate sounds good," Anglo agreed, "it gives me the feeling of people coming together."

"And," added Saxon, "you could abbreviate it to S.o.C."

Johan smiled, "Sock!"

M: Mandara and Derogan burst out laughing again and this time Rowen couldn't hold in his laughter either.

"A Sock of Countryhumans," Mandara exclaimed through laughs, "and the place where we meet is called a laundry basket. But only every other person can come since the left socks always disappear!"

N: "Nooo," Anglo laughed too, "we do not want lonely socks, we will find the pairs."

"It's official," England added, "the collective noun for countryhumans is sock. Anyone who opposes it is a lonely sock."

M: The Mandorians couldn't speak from how hard they were laughing, Mandara was rolling on his back holding his stomach from laughing so much. Edel had woken up from all the laughing but didn't seem inclined to share the happiness, holding his paws on the sides of his head like he was covering his ears.

"Uh oh, now we have a grumpy dragon," Derogan pointed out, then looked to Johann, "say, Dragon Master, maybe you can cheer him up like how Mandara did to Saxon."

"Does that make Mandara the Saxon Master," Rowen wondered out loud, "you better watch out Anglo, someone's going after your hold over your husband's leash, and maybe he will succeed in keeping him out of trouble this time."

Mandara only smiled smugly at Rowen's words.

N: "If he can keep Saxon out of trouble, then that's fine with me," Anglo smirked, glancing at the entity, who looked back with horror.

"Why are you leaving me," the entity asked, pointing at Mandara, "with him? I'm going to die from tickles if you do."

"And I see that as an absolute win," England joked, getting a stare from his fathers, "but I think Fa loves Faeder too much to let him go." Anglo rolled his eyes in response, while Saxon went a tad redder.

When he heard Derogan, Johann nodded and looked over to Edel, and got an idea. He grabbed a blanket that was still in the room and gently draped it over the dragon. Plonking himself next to him, he began to run his hand through his fur and petting him.

M: Edel purred in response and slowly rolled over on his side for belly rubs, a content smile spread across his face. Everyone smiled at the two, Mandara decided that he wasn't done with his previous preening yet so he went back over and lay on his stomach so Derogan could finish.

"It's interesting to see how similar winged countries are to animals," Rowen commented after a while, "and I mean that in the most respectful way, it's just that there are similarities like the want to be petted."

"Preening wings is a bonding experience," Derogan explained, "it's like how a mother washes her children's hair in the bath, or how monkeys groom each other, it's just something that strengthens that familial bond. That's one reason why we don't like strangers or anyone we don't consider family touching them since it is such an intimate action, right Anglo?"

N: Anglo nodded, "I would only allow the closest touch my wings, unless it's America. After he singed my feathers, he is staying the hell away from me."

"That was a sight to see," Saxon chuckled, "and I remember I got the hilt of a sword from you."

"You fell asleep on my bloody wing," the country muttered, drawing his wings closer to him, "and we only knew each other for a couple of weeks."

"I said I was sorry," the entity replied, so he came up to him and stroked his wing, "but it is soft."

Anglo only hummed in response, now absorbed with Saxon preening his wing, and he closed his eyes as he softly purred in his throat. He eventually sat down on the floor, splaying out his wings so Saxon could reach further.

M: "Now I feel jealous that I don't have any wings," Rowen commented, "you all look pretty content."

Mandara hummed in confirmation, Derogan only nodded, so not knowing what to do the captain decided to head to the kitchen to ask for some snacks and more tea.

"Another question about Sir Wales," Derogan suddenly said, looking to England, "how does he preen his wings if he has no feathers?"

N: "The answer is that you cannot," England replied, walking over to Edel to give him some belly rubs, "preening feathers keeps them clean and realigns feathers, but if you don't have any, then you can't."

The country sighed, "when Wales was born, none of us knew how dragon wings would work, and Fa could only help a bit, but the rest was a learning journey. Eventually, we learned that Wales liked to have his wing arms massaged, and the same way that feathered countries don't like their wings touched, he wouldn't allow people outside the family to touch his."

M: "Fascinating." Derogan declared, "his wings have always been really cool in my eyes. Father says that Ottoman Empire used to have bat wings with feathers on the arms but lost them to Russian Empire. Before he lost his wings though he actually involuntarily helped our parents come together."

Derogan stopped grooming Mandara's wings for the moment, which his brother didn't like but he kept silent to listen to the story.

"So Father was throwing a party for lots of the winged countries though I don't know why, and OE came with Mother, who said was his con-cu-bine, whatever that means. Anyway, apparently they kept fighting throughout the whole party and OE hit Mother in front of everyone, causing her to run away. Father followed her to comfort her and they 'hit it off' as Rowen says. When they went back to the party Mother offered to dance with Father, he didn't want to since OE was still there and was angry at Father for being with her, but he eventually agreed, so they danced and one thing led to another."

"Weren't you at that party Anglo," Mandara asked, "he held it for all the winged countries after all."

N: "I don't think so," Anglo answered, opening an eye to look at Mandara, "British Empire was at war with both the Spanish and the French and fought a lot, so I would have stayed in Britain to help the war effort."

"That is the problem of having a transcontinental empire," added Saxon, getting the side-eye from England.

Ignoring the entity, Anglo continued, "I would have loved to join, but duty called."

M: "Loved to join what," A certain winged king said, conveniently deciding to pop in to check on everyone.

"We were talking about the party that you met Mother at," Derogan explained.

Mandoria let a nostalgic smile across his face, "that had to have been one of the greatest nights of my life, I haven't danced so passionately before or since, sometimes I wish I could go back to that time, when things were simpler."

The kingdom pulled up a chair and sat down, "I haven't loved anyone more than I did my dear Zalia, she was beautiful, sweet, a little bit of a scamp too," Mandoria laughed as he said that, "she was the boss of our relationship and I kind of liked it like that, not a day goes by without thinking of her."

N: "I regret not going," Anglo said, "she sounded like a wonderful woman."

"Fa," England spoke up, "why don't you tell everyone about your first dancing with Faeder."

The country blushed when he remembered, "It was at the time when all the Germanic countries came together for the winter solstice," he recounted, "and since my Vater was the one hosting the Yule ball, I had to join. I was going to dance with Saxon's sister, but she was not available, so Saxon came instead."

"And I'm pretty sure my sister and your Muter planned it," Saxon added, "the way the both of them were smiling at the end was suspicious. At least I saved you from embarrassment."

"Saved me from embarrassment?!" Anglo laughed, "First off, your footwork was terrible, and even when I taught you how the danced worked, you were still going in the wrong direction."

M: Mandoria laughed, "I hate to say that I can relate to Saxon, I had never danced altogether before that night and Zalia had to lead most of it, but once I got the hang of it, it became a dance to remember."

"And you say you have never danced like that again?" Rowen asked, having been at the doorway the whole time. When he left he saw Mandoria coming so he decided to hang around and listen.

Mandoria was slightly startled by Rowen's sudden appearance but brushed it off, "never, I doubt I even remember the steps, it was such a long time ago."

Seeing Rowen and Mandoria, and considering the fact that the human had a crush on him, Derogan decided to have a little fun.

"You know, Rowen has boasted about how good of a dancer he is, maybe he could reteach you, Father," he suggested.

Mandoria cocked his head in confusion while Rowen looked shocked, neither expecting that to be proposed.

N: "Come on Rowen," Johann smiled, "you can teach King Mandoria. Can't be that hard?"

"And while you are at it," Anglo said, standing up and pulling Saxon to his feet, "I am going to teach this old man how to dance." England only laughed when he saw Saxon's face of horror from having to dance.

"Who are you calling old man," the entity smirked, partially to hide his fear, "are you not older than me. Hey-" he yelped when the winged country pulled him in, eyes widened from how close they.

"What," the winged country grinned, "the Head of Insurgents is too afraid to show some moves?" Saxon only stuttered as he tried to respond.

"Rowen, join in so my fathers don't feel left out," England chuckled.

M: Rowen was breaking down right then and there, wanting to be anywhere but in that dining hall, and what Mandoria said only made things worse.

"Well, since you all are very adamant about it, I see no harm in a short dance."

"B-but sire, we can't dance," Rowen stuttered, his face growing redder by the second, "I'm the captain of your army, it would be inappropriate to do such a thing."

"Times have changed Rowen," Mandoria said, standing up. He walked over to Rowen, who had backed himself up to the wall like a scared prey animal.

"S-Sire," he stuttered, his face redder than his king's flag.

Mandoria's own face remained emotionless until a flirty smirk crossed his face. He took Rowen's hand and pulled him over to the middle of the room, slowly waltzing with him.

N: Anglo joined them, waltzing as they danced across the room, meanwhile Saxon was getting as red as Rowen. It didn't help that the country kept smiling, and whenever he tripped, Anglo would lean over and catch up. "Um," he muttered weakly, "thanks?"

"No worries, dear," Anglo replied, pulling the entity up, making Saxon blush even more.

England was internally cringing from seeing his parents dance, and he glanced over to Johann to see the boy grinning from ear to ear.

"Let's go ROWEN," the boy cheered, "you're doing great."

M: Rowen whimpered and hid his face in Mandoria's chest, much to the amusement of his king. In truth, Mandoria knew of Rowen's secret all along, he just played oblivious because he knew that Rowen was embarrassed about it and believed it would bring shame to both of them. He wasn't entirely wrong, it is unheard of for a countryhuman to bond with a human because of the latter's short lifespan, it was indeed frowned upon among other countries but Mandoria had been alone for a long time, maybe it was time for a change.

"You are a pretty good dancer Rowen," he chuckled, making Rowen involuntarily squeak in surprise.

"Th-thank you, Sire," he muttered

"Please, just Mandoria, no need for formalities,"

Rowen was internally panicking, everything seemed to slow down, making it so only he and his king were in the room. That seemed to calm him down and soon he actually started enjoying himself, almost forgetting that Mandoria was his king.

N: Johann was squealing from excitement, not able to contain himself, and he looked over to England, "come on, let's join them."

"Are you sure," the country replied, glancing over to the four of them dancing, "they seem content."

"So you don't know how to dance," the boy asked, raising a brow.

The country sighed and, to the pleasure of Johann, stood up and walked up to him. Holding out his hand, he asked, "Would you care to dance?" The boy nodded and stood up, taking his hand.

"Alright," England spoke, "put your feet on top of mine, and I would lead you." The boy complied, placing both his feet, and almost fell backward if the country didn't catch him. England then began to move his feet around, taking the boy with him, and they began to do a strange waddle waltz, both of them laughing from how stupid it was.

M: Mandara and Derogan giggled at England and Johann's silly dance, the brothers decided they would just watch, cuddling up to Edel so they had a comfy front-row seat.

Mandoria and Rowen were lost in their own little world, neither had felt this way in a long time, dancing perfectly to the imaginary rhythm, both gazing at each other like they were deeply in love, which was growing close to the truth.

"Sire, I-I mean Mandoria," Rowen said quietly, "there is something that I have to confess, a secret I need to tell you."

"Is that so," Mandoria said with mock surprise, already knowing what it was but he wanted to hear it from Rowen's mouth.

"Y-yes sir, I have kept this secret for years, never having the courage to tell it and fearing the shame and scrutiny I would receive, but now I just can't hold it in anymore. I love you Mandoria, for a long time you have been the champion of my heart and I have wanted nothing more than to be yours. I know you must think me crazy and want nothing to do with me, and I will accept that, but my heart will still belong to you."

Mandoria stopped dancing, looking down at Rowen with a stony expression, making Rowen slightly nervous about the king's reaction.

"Well then Rowen, there is just one thing I have to say to that," the winged kingdom said with a sigh. Rowen was frightened by the way Mandoria said that, thinking that he insulted him from the tone of his voice, but before he could worry more Mandoria closed the distance between their faces and connected their lips, gently kissing his captain to show that he felt the same way.

N: Saxon and Anglo were dancing together, resting their chins on each other's shoulders as they slowly swayed. While they did, the country wrapped his wings around them, forming a cocoon as they hid under the golden feathers.

While they swayed, Anglo felt a vibration coming from Mandoria's wings, and he smiled as he guessed what had happened. He removed his head from Saxon's shoulder and tilted his head at the pair, and the entity immediately understood what happened.

The country leaned his head against the entity's forehead and continued their swaying. After a while Saxon tilted his head and planted a kiss on the other's lips, savoring the moment under the cover. Anglo's wing's fluffed up as he leaned forward, returning the kiss.

England and Johann stopped dancing, or what could be passed as one, as the boy noticed Mandoria kiss Rowen, "ÄH ja, Schließlich (Yes, finally)," he cheered.

Meanwhile, England saw his father's wings and smiled softly, "Fa, Faeder, get a room," he teased.

M: A bout of cheering came from the doorway to the dining hall where a bunch of servants and knights had gathered there when they heard what was going on. Mandoria and Rowen stopped kissing to look at the audience, then Rowen promptly hid his face in the kingdom's chest, earning another chuckle.

"See Rowen, there is no shame in this, and even for those who oppose it their words hold no power against us," Mandoria said with a smile, Rowen smiled back.

Mandara and Derogan didn't see it, they ended up falling asleep curled up with Edel, hugging onto one another and wrapped up in each other's wings.

N: Anglo and Saxon also spun around when they heard the servants and knights, and flinched slightly at the voice of England. They unglued from each other, to avoid their embarrassment they cheered with the audience, clapping for Rowen and Mandoria. The flustered entity glanced over to England, annoyed for making him flinch, and the country only smiled mischievously in return.

England looked over to the princes and sighed, walking over to them and sitting beside Edel, resting his head on the dragon as he saw Mandoria and Rowen. "They look happy, don't they?" he muttered, "Two people, who have lost someone, now have found another to complete themselves again."

Johann ran up beside Anglo and looked up to the country with a smirk, "Ich werde sie fragen (I am going to ask them)."

The country's eyes widened, "Nien, tu das nicht (No, don't do it)," but the boy asked anyway.

"When is the wedding?"

M: Rowen squeaked in surprise and hid his face again, but this time with his hands.

"Calm down Johann, there is still a long way to go before marriage," Mandoria chuckled as he waved away the spectators, "a wedding for the king could take months just to plan out."

"This is so embarrassing," Rowen muttered under his hands.

"Well there is plenty more where that came from," the king joked, "you're just scratching the surface right now."

"Oh god."

N: "This is going to be interesting. Don't start tripping over whenever you see Mandoria around," Saxon chuckled, getting a wing slap from Anglo, "alright, sorry. Also, watch out Rowen, Johann now has the power to embarrass you

"Watch me," Johann spoke, "I'm going to help organize the wedding between you two."

"Do you even know how to do that," Anglo asked, grinning at the boy's enthusiasm.

"Umm, that doesn't matter," the human quickly dismissed, "Hezyka looks so happy with King Mandoria." Johann blinked a couple times when he realized what he said, "Huh, Hezyka."

M: When Rowen heard Johann say Hezyka he could feel tears of joy well up in his eyes, he walked over to Johann and picked him up.

"Yes Johann, I'm your Hezyka, and you're my son, my Finzenda, and I consider myself the luckiest man in the world for it."

Rowen pressed his forehead against Johann and started crying, crying because of how happy he was that he was gifted with the boy.

"I love you Johann, and I will love you till the end of my days."

N: Johann closed his eyes as he wrapped his arms around Rowen, also tearing up as he hugged the captain. "I love you too, Hezyka," he muttered, tears running down his face, "Ich werde dich immer lieben (I will alway love you)."
