Chapter 51: Another Morning
M: When Rowen woke it was about an hour or two after sunrise, his arms felt numb from him sleeping on them all night so he got a fine taste of pins and needles when he started moving around. He saw that England was awake and Saxon was asleep and remembered about last night and what was spoken, he decided it was best the Englishman not know so he said, "oh, morning England, sorry I didn't wake you last night, Saxon said he would take a shift and I guess he just stayed up all night, again."
Edel grumbled in the back of his throat at the noise and opened his eye, looking at Rowen then to England. The dragon felt so sore and sick from yesterday that he couldn't be bothered "saying" good morning to anyone, he just rolled onto his side and groaned in pain, accidentally letting Johann fall out of his grip and onto the hard floor.
N: Johann stayed asleep until he hit the floor, so he suddenly jolted awake and yelped from hitting his head again. Grumbling from the pain, he patted the dragon as he remained lying on the floor, "Good morning to you too, Edel."
"Are you ok," England asked, walking up to the boy and kneeling next to him. He got a pillow and placed it underneath his head, "do you need anything?"
"No, I'm fine," he mumbled, although his ears started to ring slightly, "I will just need to reorientate myself."
Despite not being convinced, the country nodded and moved on to check on Edel.
M: Rowen also wasn't convinced and went to get some things from the infirmary to help ease the pain in the boy's head, as well as to clean Edel's wounds.
Edel on his end just didn't want to move, everything hurt and he felt extremely ill from infections, jumping in a lake while wrestling a bear is never the best idea when one is injured. The dragon would flinch in pain when England touched him but the most he gave as a reaction was a painful moan and his tail flicking, nothing more.
N: England hushed as he tried to comfort him, but he kept the contact to a minimum until Rowen came back. Taking one of the washcloths, he carefully cleaned Edel's wounds, placing a cold washcloth on his forehead.
Whenever the dragon flinched, the country would retract his hand and allow him to recover before continuing. "This would pass," he reassured, "I promise."
M: "He's probably feeling quite ill," Rowen suggested, slowly helping Johann sit up and giving him some water, "not only would being attacked by a bear bring some fairly nasty infections, but he also killed it in the water and was never properly dried off so he could be sick from that too. I asked one of the nurses to make some herbal medicines to give to both him and Johann, she'll bring it here when it's ready, for now, we just need to keep him comfortable and make sure he drinks plenty of water."
"Well I guess great minds think alike," Mandoria said, he was at the doorway holding another bowl of water, "I came to check on everyone, I guess for our lizard friend it's a bit of a bad morning.
N: "I think a bad morning would be a slight understatement," England commented, tending to Edel, "he's having quite a shit one, aren't you?"
"Now, England," Anglo said as he entered after Mandoria, "Mind your language, especially around young Johann," to which the younger country rolled his eyes and he went back to work.
"Ich bin nicht jung (I'm not that young)," the boy muttered under his breath, causing the winged country to cross his arms. He was about to reply when he saw Saxon sleeping on the floor, making him chuckle at the sight.
M: "Saxon couldn't sleep last night so he came here," Rowen explained, "he offered to take a shift watching Johann and Edel but he never woke England or I for our shift."
"He never seems to sleep well,'" Mandoria commented, kneeling next to Edel's head and softly rubbing his neck, "hopefully he'll get some much-needed rest before you all leave tomorrow."
"Speaking of leaving, I do hope Celtica has the decency to give us a proper goodbye this time," Rowen joked, "and that also reminds me that I need to check in with my knights who are going to escort her, make sure they are well prepared."
N: As soon as Rowen finished speaking, Celtica walked into the room, curious as to what was happening there. When he saw her, Anglo was momentarily confused, "wait, did you wake up after me?"
"You are not the only one who values their beauty sleep," she replied, then she nodded at England, "I needed to catch up on the sleep I lost because of him. Luckily this time he didn't cause any trouble."
"You're going to keep at it, aren't you," England wondered as he looked at the Celt, to which she nodded. The country sighed, giving up on trying to argue back.
When Anglo had told her what Rowen said, she smirked, "I'll make sure this time, since the last time I got captured and went back to square one."
M: "Good enough for me," the captain smirked, "hopefully the princes wake up before you go, though after yesterday I wouldn't expect less if they slept for a little longer."
"I hope Mandara does at least," Mandoria commented, holding Edel's head up to help him drink, "he came into my room last night because of a nightmare and wouldn't go to sleep for a few hours. I feel like this past week and a half have been very traumatizing for him and Derogan."
N: The British looked at each other, and England spoke up, "And that would be our fault for that to happen, and we are sorry for bringing this to you all."
"One week and a half?" Anglo wondered, "It definitely felt longer."
The winged country glanced at Saxon sleeping and shook his head, "this will not do," so he walked towards the entity. When he reached him, he picked him up bridal style and headed towards the door. "If he stayed like this, he's going to have a back the shape of a shrimp," he joked quietly, taking the entity out of the room and to his room to rest on a bed, not the floor.
M: Rowen shook his head in amusement, then decided to take his leave as well, "I'll be right back Johann, you just keep drinking your water."
A little bit after he left, a nurse came in holding a tray with a teapot and some cups, she spoke Mandorian so only her king could talk to her. After exchanging words, she set the tray down on the ground and poured the contents into one of the cups, giving it to Johann.
"So Mis Reynolds had prepared an herbal tea to help ease the pain," Mandoria explained, "it should help treat any infections from the inside-out as well."
N: Johann looked down at the tea, swirling it in the cup, "If you say so. It just looks like leafy water."
England looked offended when he heard this, and was about to defend his drink when Celtica shook her head, telling him to not speak.
The boy brought the cup to his lips and took a sip, and was slightly repulsed from the taste. "What is this," he asked, "flavored water?"
"Ok, now I can't stay quiet," England said, annoyed with Johann insulting tea, "there are so many benefits with herbal tea, let alone with tea in general, and the taste is magnificent, so you cannot downgrade the masterpiece to 'flavored water'."
"England, calm down," Celtica laughed, walking up to Johann and crouching next to him, "but he does have a point. Herbal tea is beneficial, so no matter the taste, it is good for you."
The boy looked up to the Celt and slowly nodded, and gazing into the drink, he took small sips, feeling the warmth of the tea throughout his body. Eventually, he was able to finish it, "it's alright," he commented quietly, making England huff again in frustration.
M: "England need I remind you that tea originated in Eastern Asia," Mandoria scolded, pouring some more tea for Johann and some for Edel, "the English had it for only a few centuries when the Asians had it back when I used to live there with my father."
The king bit his lip when that last part slipped from his mouth, he would rather everyone not know too much about his past, so he tried to steer away from that.
"I think I know just the thing that will help your tea taste better Johann, I'll be right back," he said, then left for the kitchen to ask for a proper tea set so everyone could have some.
N: "'Used to live there'," England repeated questioningly when Mandoria left, "with his father? Is he that old? What was that supposed to mean?"
"Maybe it's your cue to shut up and not think that you know and own everything," Celtica snapped, which the younger country was slightly taken back, silently helping Edel with his tea.
Seeing how tense she was, Johann asked if she wanted some tea, where she nodded, "I would very much like to, but I'll wait until Mandoria comes back."
M: After a few minutes Mandoria came back with a servant in tow, one was holding a tray of cups and the other had another teapot as well as sugar, cream, and honey.
"Since Johann and Edel were having tea I didn't want the rest of us to be left out in the cold," he said with a smile, "I even got cups for everyone else when they join us. I don't know about you England, but I definitely enjoy my tea best with company."
N: "That I can agree with," England replied, and when he had received his cup of tea, he closed his eyes and sipped contently, enjoying every moment.
Celtica watched him and smirked, "You English and your tea." She turned around and watched as Anglo came into the room.
"It seems like I'm missing all the fun," the winged country chuckled, making his way towards the group and sitting beside Celtica.
M: "Not really, some of us need to drink tea to fight off pain and infections," Mandoria said, patting Edel's neck again, "I just thought that the English and British would like a cup before they left, and to calm a specific Englishman after he gave Johann a lecture about calling tea flavored water, which when you think about it the boy isn't wrong."
After Mandoria poured Anglo a cup he immediately poured two more, sensing that some other sleepyheads were heading their way. Mandara and Derogan walked in soon after, slightly confused as to why everyone was on the floor but still too drowsy to ask.
"Well good morning sleepyheads," Mandora greeted his sons as they sat next to Johann, "did you two sleep ok?"
Derogan nodded and took his tea without a word, Mandara on the other hand leaned his head on Johann's shoulder, yawned, and closed his eyes like he was trying to go back to sleep, wrapping a wing around his friend for extra support.
N: Johann shuffled a bit to give Mandara some extra comfort, and when he was sure, he lifted his cup to his lips, carefully maneuvering around the prince's wing and he sipped on his tea.
Anglo thanked Mandoria when he received his cup, and he faced England, "Johann is not wrong, tea is flavored water."
"Of course, you would agree," England replied, "the only drink you and Faeder care about is mead." The country spat out the last word with disdain.
"Hey. Mead is golden," the winged country defended, "tea is good and all, but it's not exactly the drink you could have at a celebration."
"Anglo," Celtica warned, "try to quiet down your alcohol talk in front of the children." However, she herself was staring angrily at the winged country, daring him to continue.
"Sorry," he muttered, rubbing the back of his neck, "tea is alright."
M: Mandoria rolled his eyes in amusement, "you English always have something to fight over, it's quite entertaining sometimes."
"Father, you and Ottoman Empire used to argue about you stealing Mother all the time," Derogan reminded him, "you're not exactly perfect either."
"Nope, I'm not," the king chuckled, "but our flaws are what make us special, they help define us and help us push ourselves to be better."
N: "What can we say," Anglo smiled, "arguing is our specialty."
"No it's not," England disagreed immediately, getting a small chuckle from Celtica, and Anglo to present his son as if to say 'point proven.'
When he heard what Mandoria said, the winged country nodded, "The world would be a dull place if everyone was flawless. Our slight differences are what make us stand out."
After a couple of minutes of silence, Celtica spoke up, "I should be getting ready for my journey today back home. Business calls and the rogue knights have been quite a nuisance, and this time around I'm not going to rush out like last time."
M: "Good, because my knights are not the 'rush in blindly' types," Rowen said, standing at the doorway. He came closer to the group and smiled at the sight of them all drinking tea, "I do hope there is some left for me, or did the Englishmen drink it all?"
Mandoria and Derogan both chuckled, Mandara just smiled since he was mostly out of it.
"Aren't you the one who calls them tea-fuckers?" he asked innocently, causing his father to choke on his tea and start coughing.
"That was one time," Rowen defended himself, "British Empire lost a shipment of goods to road thieves and refused to pay it back, of course, I would have been mad."
"That doesn't excuse you cursing in front of my son, Rowen," Mandoria scolded, Rowen rubbing his neck awkwardly.
"It wouldn't be the first time," Derogan whispered to England next to him, "sometimes we joke that he is a sailor from how much he swears."
N: England instinctively spat out his drink when he heard Rowen, Anglo coughing as well as tea wend down the wrong pipe, all the while Celtica only smiled and continued to sip her tea.
"I do not appreciate the insult," she said, "but it does bring back funny memories of when Scotty constantly insulted the English." She leaned back slightly as she took a small trip down memory lane, glancing at England, "those sweet moments of denial."
England went slightly red, and when he had somewhat recovered, blurted out, "For tea, nothing else." The Celt only laughed when she saw his reaction.
Leaning towards Derogan, the English country whispered back, "Well I can see. We have a couple of captains back home, and I sometimes wonder if they know how to filter their conversations."
M: Derogan nodded in agreement but added nothing else, just quietly sipping his tea while smiling smugly that Rowen had been called out yet again.
Rowen was slightly relieved that England and Anglo took the insult quite well but he still felt embarrassed, fanning himself with his shirt from feeling hot. When he did this he felt like something was missing, he patted his chest and pockets frantically but didn't find anything, making his eyes widen with horror.
"Wait, where's my amulet, I had it last night, where is it," he exclaimed, he jumped up and checked where he slept but it wasn't there.
N: Anglo, Celtica, and England were confused as to what Rowen was referring to, but Johann, knowing that the amulet was important to the captain, began to worry. As he was used as a headrest for Mandara, he only scanned the room from where he was, and couldn't find it.
"Wait, how was it lost?" the boy asked, looking at everyone in the room, "who could have taken it?"
"Rowen and I were going to do shifts through the night," England thought out loud, "and I never knew that he had an amulet. The person who was awake before me was Faeder-" The country gave a worried look at Anglo, who when he heard the idea shook his head.
"Saxon had nothing on him when I took him to his room," he spoke, and when the younger country was about to speak, he asked, "Did you find anything on him? Plus, why would he sleep, knowing that he took it; therefore, he would increase his chances of being caught?"
"You will never know," England answered, standing up from his place, "let's check just in case."
"England, stop," Celtica said, "think this through. Why would he do that?" However, her words fell on deaf ears as the country left the room."
M: "Saxon wouldn't take it," Rowen yelled after him, even though he looked unsure of himself, "after everything I told him last night, how could he."
"You told him," Mandoria asked questioningly earning a nod from the captain, "but I'm guessing you haven't told England."
Rowen shook his head, "he wouldn't have understood anyway, it was English conquistadors who took her after all, but that doesn't matter right now, I probably left it in the barracks and just don't remember, I'll go look, someone please go after England so he doesn't do anything stupid."
Rowen then ran off, while Derogan looked slightly confused, "is he talking about his Eye of Horus necklace, I would think that if anyone would take it it would be England since his knights took his great grandmother and sold her to slavery."
