Chapter 25: Code 18

N: Anglo had helped his son onto his horse when he heard Rowen shout. His face fell when he saw Mandoria lying still on the ground so he turned to England, "go ride to the castle, find anyone who can help." The country nodded, turned around, and galloped as fast as he could.

Saxon had finished hacking at the ropes, and when he took them off, there was a noticeable rope mark around the prince's neck. "Please wake up," he kept on whispering as he carried Derogan, his breathing shaky and quiet.

Both of the English countryhumans approached the King Wing, Anglo kneeling next to him and using some cloth to close the wound. "What are we going to do?" The winged country looked up to the captain.

"At least let me return Derogan so he could be treated to," suggested Saxon.

M: "Yes, please take the prince back to the castle," Rowen said, taking out a pouch with a few first aid supplies that he always carried with him, "tell my men we have a code 18, they'll know what to do and can get preparations made for the king when we return, just please hurry, the scent of blood and death is sure to attract predators."

He watched as Saxon carried Derogan to his horse and rode away, only going back to Mandoria when they were out of sight, "all we can do is try to stop the bleeding until help can arrive," he answered Anglo's question.

The captain did his best to wrap any major wound with the limited bandages he had, having Anglo help as well. Mandoria wouldn't respond to them but Rowen knew he was still alive, though just barely. When they did all they could for the king, Rowan sat back and placed his head in his hands.

"This is all my fault," he muttered into his palms, "if I didn't invite you to a horseback ride, Derogan and England never would have run away and encountered the Prussians. I am a horrible excuse of a knight, I can't even protect my king."

N: "Don't say that," Anglo said, also sitting back, "you are an excellent knight, why else did the king make you captain. You have a good heart, thinking about the future of your kingdom, and even when you didn't have any backup you still went ahead and served your king."

He wrapped his good wing around Rowen, trying to comfort him, "if anyone should be to blame, it should be me. It was my responsibility to take care of England, and because of my carelessness, this happened."

———

Back at the castle, England arrived at the stables; however, he almost toppled off his horse from exhaustion. The stablehand from before was startled at the sight of the injured country and asked what had happened. "Prussians ... Mandoria ... fight," was all he said before he fell off his horse.

While he was helped up, he saw Saxon riding towards them, and when he arrived, tried to help his father carry down Derogan. "Go inside, find a room, and rest," ordered Saxon as he strode into the castle. "L-Let me help," England strained but was silenced by his father.

"Son, get inside now, you have fought your battle," the entity said sternly as he handed the prince to servants who had gathered near the stable. The country obliged and followed the servants inside.

Saxon ran into the knights' training grounds, and since he wasn't accompanied by Anglo or a knight, a couple of them held their swords at him. Raising his hands, the entity explained, "I'm not a threat. Sir Rowen told me that you have a code 18."

M: The knights dropped their aggression immediately, since Saxon himself looked like he came from a battle they believed him right away. They started shouting orders to each other in Mandorian and rushed every which way to prepare to help their king. Some of the knights ran for the stables, urging Saxon to follow them. They grabbed their weapons and saddled up, two of the stablehands were told to get the cart that was supposed to carry the English home, with Mandoria's large frame they would need it to carry him back.

Once everyone was prepared to leave they waited for Saxon to lead them to their king.

———

Rowen didn't respond to Anglo, he just sat there and kept his face buried, like he was hoping that if he didn't see anything then all of this would go away.

A snap came from the bushes beyond them, Rowen jerked his head up to the noise just in time to see a large wolf step out of the trees. He jumped up and brandished his sword to ward off the predator, but lowered it when he recognized it.

"Lady Ora," he breathed, he fell to one knee and bowed at the animal, which didn't move and just stared at the three figures in front of her.

N: Anglo did not immediately turn around, yet when he saw Rowen on his knee, he looked over his shoulder and his eyes widened when he saw the wolf. Not knowing what to do, he copied the captain and also went on one knee and bowed.

Glancing at the wolf, the winged country recognized her as the wolf Saxon described, and he wondered what she was going to do.

———

Saxon, now armed with a sword since he left the other one behind, mounted his horse. "This way," he called back as he galloped ahead of them.

M: The wolf didn't do much of anything, she just continued to stare like she was trying to hypnotize the two with her blue gaze. Rowen was muttering under his breath, silently praying in Mandorian for the deity in front of him to help Mandoria.

Somehow the wolf seemed to understand his prayers and slowly walked up to the three behind Mandoria, she leaned her head down and started licking the wound on the fallen king's throat, and with each lick, the blood seemed to recede into the gash until it and the red liquid disappeared completely. Mandoria took in a deep breath and exhaled with a sigh, though he didn't wake up.

Before the wolf could do more, the sound of galloping came from the distance and the animal jerked her head up. Rowen looked behind him where the galloping was coming from, then back to the wolf in front of him. He silently pleaded with her to help more but she seemed wary of the approaching knights so she turned on her four heels and ran back where she came from.

"Wait, don't leave," Rowen called to her, but the she-wolf was already long gone.

N: Anglo watched silently as the wolf did her work, captivated by how she was able to heal Mandoria, and said nothing until she ran off, "Wait ... was that Ora?" He didn't continue as he turned around to see Saxon leading a large group of knights and a large cart.

When the entity walked over to them, he was confused with Mandoria's appearance, along with Anglo and Rowen on one knee. "Wasn't Mandoria," he paused trying to find the right word, and with the lack of a better one said, "bloodier?"

"Ora," the winged country replied, getting an 'a-ha' from Saxon. Together, they helped to lift the King Wing into the cart.

M: The knights got off their horses to both stand guard against any enemies that might appear and to lift Mandoria onto the cart. The action of moving him woke up the winged king, but he was still out of it and just stared blankly into space. He didn't stay awake for very long, as the cart and his knights started heading back for the castle he closed his eyes again, slipping back into unconsciousness.

Waiting for them was Mandara, he heard about the code 18 and ran out to the stables with the servants and doctors to see if it was true. When the cart came into the stable he immediately pushed his way through the adults and jumped up on the side to look in.

"Father!" he screamed in horror, "Father no, don't be dead, Father wake up!"

The child tried to climb into the cart with his father but was grabbed and pulled down by Rowen, who dismounted his horse to help.

"Mandara, you have to stay back and let us help him," He said.

"Natin, don't take me away," Mandara cried, fighting against the captain to get to his dad, "FATHER!!!!"

N: "Your father is going to be fine," comforted Anglo as he dismounted; however, he wasn't completely sure. "The Lady Ora visited your father and helped him, so have faith, young prince." Saxon also dismounted and helped the knights.

The winged country looked up and saw Johann leading his son towards the crowd, so he walked through the people and met with them. The young boy was helping the country, who had one arm in a sling and his other hand resting on Johann's shoulder. England immediately lowered his face when he saw his father, the boy left the two countries and went to Mandara.

"I expected more from you England; I always told you to stop causing trouble, and yet look what you've done."

"I'm sorry, Fa." He looked up to see his father staring angrily at him.

"I need to see that you're sorry, but right now you need to get better," he placed his hand on his son's back and led him back inside.

Johann ran up to the struggling Mandara and was startled to see  Mandoria not moving. It brought back unwanted memories, but he pushed them down so he could help his friend. "Your father is too strong to die," the boy said to the prince, "stop so the people can take care of him."

M: "Natin Natin Natin," Mandara repeated, struggling so hard that it took another knight to hold him back, "don't take me away from him, please!"

"Mandara enough," Rowen said, "you're not being taken away, but you need to calm down."

The two knights could barely hold on to Mandara, he was exceptionally strong for a kid and his desperation to get to his injured father, who had been taken inside to be treated by now, was fueling him to do anything to break out of the adults' grasp. Rowen tried to cover his eyes to calm him down but Mandara would jerk away or try to bite him,

With no other options, Rowen pressed his thumbs down on two spots above Mandara's wings, causing the young country to seize up then fall limply in the other knight's arms.

N: "Was zur Hölle," Johann exclaimed, stepping back as he watched him go unconscious. He looked up at Rowen with confusion, and forgetting to switch languages, asked, "Wie?" However, he was glad that Mandara had stopped, so when the knight carried the prince, he stood next to him, ready whenever he would wake up.

Saxon stepped back so that the doctors could do their work, and stood next to Rowen as he watched as the king was treated to. "I'm sorry for the inconvenience I have caused since arriving here," he said to the captain, "If there is a way to repay, I will."

M: "Let's not worry about that right now," Rowen said to Saxon, "right now all that matters is keeping the king alive."

Rowen didn't speak or understand german but he understood from Johann's actions and tone that he was confused about what happened to Mandara.

"Don't worry, Johann, he's fine," he reassured the kid, taking Mandara out of his fellow knight's arms into his own, "he just "turned off" if you will, no one knows why but winged countryhumans have two spots above their wings that if you press them they will shut down, they kind of just fall asleep for a few minutes."

"We need to go inside now," he then addressed everyone, "the royal family needs rest and I now have to inform the kingdom of the king's current state, as per my duty as captain and royal adviser."

N: Johann nodded along with the explanation and when the captain told everyone to go inside, he stubbornly stayed by Rowen's side and wanted to be near Mandara. Seeing this, Saxon tried to persuade him to go inside.

"Nein, I will not," the boy replied, pulling his arm away from the entity.

"Johann, you have to go inside."

"I will not listen to you, mörder," he clung onto the captain, going where he would go.

Saxon was slightly taken aback by the boy's sudden aggression, but he brushed it off as he headed inside to find his family.
