Part 6: The After-Dinner Chat

After the toast, Germany went back to finishing his meal, wiping his mouth once he was done. He listened to Mandara and MA's playful banter. He was happy for Mandara and Poland, happy that they were perfect for each other and maybe even become family soon. Germany wondered if he'd ever get to that stage in life.
"You'll find someone," Wehrmacht whispered, scaring the shit out of his nephew.
Germany lightly shoved him, then glanced at Wehrmacht's phone.
"Oh yeah, let's talk about you," Germany countered, smirking. "That was Ireland who called, I bet. We should head back so you can go home to your love doves. Mandara, MA, I hope you enjoyed the dinner?"
M
"Yes it was delightful, even if it was a bit embarrassing at some points." Mandara said, then gave MA a small stink face, who gladly returned it.
"Indeed, once we get our trading deal settled, we should definitely consider doing this more often." MA suggested, he then gestured to Wehr and Mandara, "and maybe you two lovebirds could bring your boyfriends next time."
Mandara facepalmed at the statement, but separated his fingers to see Wehr's reaction to being called a 'lovebird'.
L
Wehrmacht's whole face turned a deep, deep shade of red. This time, he was the one reflecting Mandara's previous behavior, raising his wings and hiding himself a little behind the feathers.
"Oh nein, he's going tomato mode," Germany chuckled, earning a deathly glare from his uncle.
Wehrmacht got up stiffly and muttered, "It's getting stuffy in here, let's go." And he left the room, still hiding his face.
Germany also got up and winked at MA. "It's a good suggestion though, I'd be interested in a big friendly family dinner. But let's head back to the estate so you two can rest, it's getting pretty late."
M
Both Mandara and MA snicker at Wehr's reaction, and laugh even harder when Germany says 'tomato mode'.
"Man, I never would of thought that I'd see the great Wehrmacht blushing like a school girl siting next to her crush, I feel truly blessed." MA joked.
That was the final straw for Mandara, who burst out laughing so hard that he fell out of his chair onto his back. MA quickly helped him up and turned to Germany when he spoke to him. "Thanks, I thought so too." He turned back to Mandara, "You ok bud."
"Yeah, I'm good" Mandara said as he was wiping his eyes, "Germany, thank you so much for dinner, I can't wait for what tomorrow will bring."
L
A couple waiters rushed into the room when they heard the crashing sound of the chair. They were very confused to find everyone laughing and having a good time. Germany waved them away and gestured for his guests to follow him out of the restaurant.
"I can't wait as well," said Germany. "Since EU won't be here until the next day, why don't we pay a visit to Wehrmacht's house tomorrow? I'll have to confirm with Uncle but I hear Iremacht loves visitors, especially those with colorful wings like yours."
M
"Sounds like fun" Mandara declared as the brothers followed him outside.
MA was less enthusiastic however. "How old is Iremacht, because the last time we were near kids was when we were teenagers and it didn't go well."
Mandara had to nod in agreement, "True, father went to discuss forming an alliance with then British Empire and he took us with him. Unfortunately we ended up alone with UK's kids and they literately tried to stuff a pillow with us, we couldn't fly for almost a year and a half."
L
A chilly breeze blew through the evening air and Germany folded his coat closer around himself as he walked. Wehrmacht wasn't around, which meant he probably already headed back to the estate or back to his own home. Hearing MA's concerns, Germany remembered how naughty he was back in his childhood.
"I'd say UK's kids are a different breed," said Germany. "Especially America, the kid had the guts to dump UK's tea in the ocean a few years later. And Australia, who probably eats lunch with crocodiles and boa constrictors. I hate to break it to you but Iremacht currently falls in the teenager category."
M
Surprisingly, neither of the brothers seemed too upset at the idea of Iremacht being a teen.
"Oh well that won't be a problem then, since teenagers usually have the decency to not yank on wings or drool on feathers." Mandara stated.
MA hummed in agreement before adding, "And that's why I never want kids."
Mandara chuckled, "Slow down there Thunder, you need to get a girlfriend first before you worry about having kids."
"True" MA agreed, then the two fell into silence, with Mandara falling to the back of the group so he could spread his wings and let the wind blow through his feathers.
L
"It's just that phase," said Germany. "Gotta let the little kids have some sort of childhood experience — otherwise they'll never learn what 'growing up' means. Besides, Wehrmacht tells me that once the kid grows up there's less of a mess but more of the stress. Teenage rebels and whatnot."
The estate came into view in the distance. As Germany looked over his shoulder, he caught sight of Mandara opening his wings to catch the wind. He admired the rich colors — it was rare to have winged countries let alone those with such multicolored feathers.
M
"Huh, is that how kids are nowadays, because when Trigger and I were teens, kids were generally very well behaved, excluding UK's of course." MA said, mostly to himself.
Mandara on the other hand was taking in the beauty of the city in the soft evening light, but he noticed Germany staring at him from the corner of his eye.
"Um...is everything ok?" he asked, folding in his wings.
L
Germany ducked his head at being caught and said, "Oh ja, I was just thinking you've got really nice wings. I've seen plenty of wings in my lifetime but they've all been single-colored or bi-colored. Nothing like yours though."
He reached the door of the estate and quickly opened it, eager to get out of the chill. He stepped aside to let his guests in first of course.
Sitting on a couch in the lobby waiting for them, Wehrmacht looked up from preening his wings when he heard the door open.
M
"Thanks, though Thunder's definitely top mine since he has stars on his covert feathers, show him Thunder." Mandara said, to which MA proceeded to unfurl one of his wings to show off the four golden stars that lined the upper arm, with the top one positioned on the wrist.
"And you haven't seen other wings like ours because feather colors have a rarity level of their own, the more the colors, the rarer the wings." MA explained as he folded his wing.
Then Mandara piped in, "Funny is, Thunder is the only known countryhuman with five colors on his wings."
MA rolled his eyes at his brother showing him off like some sort of museum piece. When the three of them went inside, Mandara and MA instantly started to ruffle their feathers as their wings came into contact with the warm air.
MA then spotted Wehr on the couch, "Oh, there you are, I was wondering where you ran off to after I called you a lovebird, sorry about that by the way."
L
"That's amazing," Germany breathed, extremely impressed with his guests and the extensive realm of winged society.
From the couch, Wehrmacht growled softly at MA's words, trying not to blush again. He stood up and stretched."I was just waiting for you slow pokes to get back before I leave for home. Hopefully Iremacht went to bed like a good boy." He highly doubted it though.
"Right I wanted to ask if it's alright if we visit you tomorrow? Have Iremacht meet the guests and all?" Germany asked.
Wehrmacht glanced at the Mandarians. "Iremacht would be interested, especially in MA...but shouldn't you be spending more time finishing up the trade deal?"
Even though he'd socialized and learned more about Mandara and MA to decide they weren't that bad, Wehrmacht still maintained his disgruntled personality — which also helped him control his previous flustered behavior.
M
Mandara and MA's faces fell at Wehr's statement, it's true that they were there for political reasons, but they were also really enjoying spending time with the Germans.
Mandara noted that MA seamed slightly more upset than he was, so he tried to cheer him up best way he knew, "Well...that is true, but since only Germany and I really have to be present, Thunder could go and meet Iremacht."
MA, eyes widened when Mandara suggested that, but not in a good way, "What, and leave you by yourself?! Trigger I may want to meet Iremacht, but I would rather die than leave your side, you know what happened last time I lef-"
MA quickly covered his mouth before he finished his sentence, but it was too late. Mandara winced and turned away, and MA frantically started apologizing, "Oh my god, Trigger I am so sorry, I didn't mean to bring that up, I'm sorry."
MA took a step towards his brother, who in turn took a step back and said, "No it's fine, I'm fine. I-it's getting late, I'll meet you upstairs." T
hen he turned and quickly left.
"No, Mandara wait I'm sorry!" MA yelled after him, but he didn't stop, leaving MA to just stand there in silence.
