Chapter 5: Border Problems
M: "He likes mice and fish, though he hasn't been inside since he was injured," Poldara explained, "dads is it ok if he comes inside with us?"
Poland and Mandara glanced at each other, but before they could respond, they heard Germany's question. MA heard it too and was the one who spoke up, "the security has been tight ever since a smuggling operation was discovered a year ago, why do you ask?"
L: "Did you say 'past criminal'?" Wehrmacht asked Germany. His nephew nodded and Wehrmacht inhaled sharply, "he's here, isn't he."
"Earlier than expected," Germany said and clarified to everyone, "I'm asking because I got a call from Iremacht. He's stuck outside your borders because the history check revealed his past ... misconduct. He sounded pissed and I'm worried he'll do something bad."
Wehrmacht sighed, shook his head, and handed Mandoria back to Poldara. He was not prepared to deal with his son so soon, especially not in front of the Mandarians.
M: "Misconduct?" Mandara repeated, "Machty's a criminal, when did this happen?"
MA looked worried as well, being a militant entity it was his duty to make sure that his country stayed safe, so even though Iremacht was a friend, he had to put the security risk first.
"Well then, if you're so worried about his actions then perhaps this is a matter I need to investigate," he said, switching into his military mode, he turned to Wehrmacht with a serious look, "you should come to, but know that if he tries anything I will not hesitate to arrest him, no matter who he is," he warned.
"MA, you can't possibly believe-" Poland started, but MA interrupted him, "safety before friends Poland, if he is a danger to my country or my family then I have to fulfill my sworn duty to eliminate the threat, whether it be an arrest or by lethal force," he turned back to Wehr, "you of all people would understand, let's go."
Then he took off into the sky and flew towards the Mandara border.
L: Wehrmacht sighed. MA was right, of course. It was a militant's primary job, but he was still concerned because Iremacht could very well get himself arrested with his words alone. "I hope he hasn't caused a scene yet," Wehrmacht muttered as he spread his wings.
"Knowing Machty, he probably has," said Germany, "keep in mind Uncle, the version of Machty we're dealing with is much more ... exaggerated than the teen from way back."
Wehrmacht pursed his lips and flew after MA in a burst of black wings without another word.
M: "Who's Machty, dads?" Poldara asked, letting Mandoria fly back to his tree, "is he an enemy?"
"No Blue-Jay, Machty is Wehrmacht's son," Mandara explained, "your uncle and I used to be good friends with him when he was a teenager, but we lost touch with him a few years after you were born." he then looked to Germany, "mind telling me what's going on?"
-----
MA had a lot of questions running through his mind, he hasn't heard from Iremacht in years so he also didn't know how the kid had changed, though from the sounds of it, it wasn't good. He looked behind him to make sure Wehrmacht was following, which he was. That made MA feel a little better, so he just focused on the Mandara border that was coming up in the distance.
L: "Wehrmacht and I are in the same boat as you," Germany explained, "about a year after he became Ireland's new militant, we lost touch with him. Each time Wehrmacht called or visited, it was always Ireland picking up or alone in the house. Iremacht always made some excuse to be absent. A few years ago, we learned he'd been involved in criminal activity that stained his record. He never talks about the details." Germany took off his glasses to rub his eyes tiredly. "I apologize for causing you all so much trouble, especially close to your independence day celebrations."
-----
Wehrmacht was lost in his own thoughts as he followed MA, so much so it felt like only a few seconds before the border of Mandara was within his sights. He grew more nervous as they neared, glancing at MA to read the militant's expression and gauge how much trouble he should expect.
M: Mandara sighed, "it's ok, I can only pray that he doesn't do anything too major while he's here, that is, if he gets past Thunder and border patrol to begin with." he then rubbed his own face in exasperation, "first Rus and Kaz are gonna be late, now Machty is an even bigger troublemaker then before, what's next, that stupid snake comes back to haunt us."
Just then there was a high-pitch scream that came from inside the house, "Oh come on!!" the country exclaimed.
-----
MA stopped and hovered in place to observe the scene below, there was a car parked at one of the border gates, with its owner up in a border agent's face, yelling at her, MA shook his head disappointingly and dove to the ground to make sure things don't get out of hand.
"Alright, what in the five realms of Jastrem is going on here," he asked when he landed.
L: The human who was yelling at the agent was the car's driver, and he whirled around to face MA. He blanched at the sight of MA's flag and wings and grew increasingly paler when Wehrmacht landed next to MA.
"Generals," the man said, trying to regain his confidence, "it's good that you are here. I am Iremacht's esteemed driver and these border officials won't let us into the country to attend your independence day celebrations!" There was a hint of boastfulness and disdain in his voice.
The car's windows were tinted so that it was difficult to see inside, but the person - or rather entity - sitting in the backseat could hear and see the entire commotion. He had been annoyed, but now that MA and Wehrmacht were here, he perked up with interest.
M: MA hummed to the driver's explanation, he crossed his arms as he walked closer to him, half flaring his wings in an authoritative yet threatening manner, "well sir, I must say that I do not appreciate you treating my agents so disrespectfully, you should consider yourself lucky that I won't have them arrest you for disorderly conduct, and clearly-" MA narrowed his eyes, "-you are too conceded to understand that even though you may be 'esteemed' where you come from, you are nothing more than just another visitor in this country, I hope you remember that from now on."
Once he was done putting the driver in his place, he held his hands behind his back and walked over to the border agent, "so agent, please explain why this vehicle has been stopped."
L: "That won't be necessary," a voice interrupted.
The car door opened and a face with a flag of Ireland and a black cross on the forehead emerged. He wore a black vest over a green collared shirt, casual and formal at the same time. His eyes were different colors - one was green with a white sclera, the other was red with a black sclera as the mark of militant. The driver, who had shrunk away in fear from MA's authoritative stance, now bowed his head in more fear.
"Hallo MA," Iremacht greeted with an easy smile, "long time no see."
M: MA turned to Iremacht, he looked him up and down, this was definitely the same person that he knew as a teen, yet he wasn't at the same time. MA walked away from the agent and up to Iremacht, taking note of the driver's fearful stance as he passed him.
"Indeed it has Iremacht," he said, not dropping his militant voice as he was wary of this new Iremacht, "you haven't changed much since I last saw you, though it appears you followed in your father's footsteps and became a militant, congratulations." He flicked his wings in annoyance before adding, "now if I may, I would like to inquire as to why my agents felt it necessary to deny you entrance into Mandara."
L: Iremacht let out a quiet hum to acknowledge the congrats but took his time to stall before he answered the question. He looked over MA's shoulder at where his father was standing. Wehrmacht hadn't come forward to greet his son yet. He looked unsure and fidgeted with his feathers as he scanned the number of border patrol agents there were surrounding them.
Iremacht lazily brought his eyes back to MA and said, "I have no idea. It's not like I was caught shooting paintballs at anyone. I'm unarmed and defenseless."
That was a lie. As a militant, it was custom to carry a handgun.
M: MA raised a brow, not amused by Iremacht's joke, or his lies, "same old Iremacht, not taking the gravity of a situation seriously, you clearly don't realize the trouble you've caused before even making it into Mandara, but-" MA gave him a serious stare, "I am willing to put this incident behind us if you're going to behave for the remainder of this visit, because I will not have one man ruin one of the most important days in Mandarian history."
With that warning, MA waved off the border agents and ordered them to allow the young militant through, they were hesitant at first but relented and opened the gate. He then turned back to Iremacht, "I will be following you from the sky, as you have plainly been identified as a security threat and I don't want you out of my sight for the time being."
L: "What an honor," Iremacht muttered under his breath before going back to his car. He snapped his finger at the driver, who scrambled behind the wheel and started up the engine. The car began easing towards the gate and into the country of Mandara.
Wehrmacht finally stepped up next to MA, watching the car drive off. "Es tut mir leid about that," he apologized, "I'll keep an eye on him. He won't ruin anything, I promise."
M: MA gave him a hard look, "you better German, you two may be my friends, but I will not deal with trouble on our soviet independence day, I would have been fine if it was the Ukrainian independence day, but not this one. And mark my words, if he hurts my family, especially Poldara, I won't hesitate to pull the trigger, on either of you."
Once he was done with his threats, he took off after Iremacht's car.
-----
Back at the estate, Poland was preening Mandara's wings to calm him down, he had been very anxious about Iremacht coming, especially since Wehrmacht and MA haven't come back yet. Poldara was standing next to Germany as the two were watching the scene unfold.
"Mr. Germany," Poldara said, a hint of nervousness in his voice, "is Mr. Iremacht going to hurt us?"
