Chapter 30 - Lunch

I have another idea for a GB fanfic. I know I should stop, but I won't. I think that on the epilogue, I will have everyone vote for which one I should do next. Here is the description:

The night that Owen's mother was killed, it wasn't really her. She had hired a look-alike in order to go visit her family secretly in order to leave her abusive husband. Sadly, luck wasn't on her side. When she returned, her look-alike was dead, her husband too while her son is missing in action.

Assumed dead, Owen's mother is forced to wait in order to be reunited with her son. Meanwhile, she accepts her family business as her brother gives it to her. It's called "The Institute", it's a private company that does the same thing as the Academy by killing and have a slightly different moral compass.

Back in Greece, there is Sang who is suffering terrible abuse from the hands of her stepmother. Her only relief are her best friends, North and Silas. One day, her stepmother catches her with her boys and attempts to kill them and her. Sang couldn't let that happen and kills her step-mother.

Immediately recruited by the Institute, Silas, North and Sang make a team. Uncle and Luke reach out too late to find North. For several years, the Ghost Team are the most successful in The Institute. Trusted even by the head, she gives them a mission precious to her heart. They are to track down her son. She has been receiving threats about him dead along with someone called Axel Toma.

Sang isn't one to back down from a challenge and where she goes her boys follow.

What will happen when both meet?

Who will win when their opposing morals collide?

Do you guys like this one, the first one or the second one better? Your votes help me make a decision about my next GB fanfic. There will be a huge vote at the end too!

I also need a new cover. Anyone want to make one?

Sang

Taking a lunch break was one of the best ideas I have ever had.

I was going to take this time to introduce my children to Uncle. He was one of the only people left from my time here that I truly cared for and wished to see again. There was Jessica and Erica, but they too were at the hospital with me and lied. I don't know how I feel about them yet.

"Mom?" Dallas asked.

I turn towards him and give him all of my attention, "Yes, sweetie?"

"Are we going to meet our Uncle?" questioned Leif.

I smile, "Yeah, we are going to have lunch at his place."

Noah grunts, "I don't like them."

I give him a look, "You don't know all of them."

He shrugs, "Academy is his family and I don't like them."

I frown, "Uncle is different."

Leif diffuses the tension, "We can meet him, then make a decision about him."

We all piled into his diner. It was around three in the afternoon, so there wasn't a lot of people here. We had skipped lunch and had had an early breakfast. I starving and so were my babies. They had the appetite of pigs. I just hoped that there wouldn't be too many Academy members following us. They are really curious and would eat here hoping to listen to our conversation.

I hear Uncle call out from the kitchen, "Sit down wherever you want. I'll be with you in a minute!"

I chuckle, it seems like Uncle still hires Academy members who probably rushed over to the hospital to see us. We are big news! Fun it is not. Gossiping old hens, the lot of them! Noah and Sam pushed together enough tables for all eleven of us to eat together. It's not like people were using the tables.

Suddenly, Uncle comes quickly out of the kitchen with his head down, "Sorry for the wait, my employees are sick. What can I do for you?"

I smirk, "Look up, old man!"

He does and looks shell-shocked, "Sang!"

I give him a hug, "The one and only!"

Uncle begins to blabber, "I heard everything that happened. Your kids coming in, my nephews finding their kids. Oh, Sang, why didn't you come to me!"

I sigh, "It was different, Uncle. Things were complicated."

He crosses his arms, "I have time."

Mel speaks up in order to save me, "Hello!"

Uncle turns around and spots all the kids, "You must be the boys and Sang's kids. Care to introduce yourselves? You can call me Uncle."

I give them a look when no one volunteers, "C'mon, you said that you would give him a chance."

He frowns at me, "What's wrong?"

I shrug, "We don't have the best history with the Academy."

Melody steps up first, "I am Melody."

"Leif, Luke's my father."

"Dallas, Kota's mine."

"Oliver, my father is Owen."

"Samuel, Silas' child."

"Noah, North's kid."

"Neal, Nathan's."

"Vincent, Victor's my father."

"I am Sebastian, Sean is my father."

"Gabriel is mine, I'm Gale."

I sigh, "Those are my kids."

Uncle turns back to me, "Don't think this got you out of explaining to me."

I nod, "Maybe later, I already have one meeting with the Academy Council that I walked out on."

He chuckles, "You walked out?"

I smile, "Yup, they were being too judgy!"

Uncle shakes his head amused, "Do you want anything to eat?"

In a sing-song voice, Leif answers, "Chocolate Chip Pancakes!"

Noah scowls, "You can't eat that type of shit, Leif!"

I berate him, "Language!"

Leif skips to hide behind Uncle, "Help me!"

Uncle only laughs, "So much like your fathers."

Everyone freezes and I sigh, "We are still not used to hearing that."

He shrugs, "I understand, I heard some of the story from your kids while they were holding up the waiting room."

I laugh along with them, "That's life."

Without more conversation, Uncle takes our orders and the ones of the other people around us. While we were talking, the diner filled in rather quickly. It seems I was right that Academy members would follow us to hear more of our story. My kids' words at the hospital must have hit a sore spot. I spot a couple people I know, but not the Blackbourne Team. They must be smoothing things over with the Academy Council because we ruffled a few feathers.

Soon enough, I spot Jessica and Erica. Either the boys sent them or they are genuiely curious, I honestly don't know which one it is. They quickly approach us and I exchange glances with my babies that speak a thousand words: be careful, be respectful, no killing.

Erica reaches us first and tries to hug me while I do my best not to flinch, "Oh, Sang, it's been so long!"

I awkwardly pat her back, "Hi, Erica."

Jessica is a second behind her mother, "Are these your kiddies?"

I tense as do my children, "Yes, these are my children. They are all ten years old."

She cooes at them, "Which one is Kota's child?"

Reluctantly Dallas steps us, "Biologically yes, but no has a claim on us but Mom because they didn't raise us."

Erica reasons with them, "It wasn't Kota's fault at all."

Melody sensing a fight walked forward, not to defuse the situation but to be the one to throw the first blow, "Given that you don't know the situation, lady, you can't say anything."

She gasps, "How rude! Doesn't your mother teach you any manners?"

I cringe, poor Erica just set off a beast. My kids are pretty nice until someone insults me. They are rather portective. I blame it on Aleksandr, he instilled that instinct in them. I don't intervene at this point. My kids can fight their own battles. At this point, the diner is full of only Academy members who are listening to our conversation.

Melody grits her teeth, "Yes, my mother did teach us manners. She also taught us to be wary of your enemy."

Jessica frowns, "We aren't your enemy."

Mel gives her a look, "You are Academy?"

Erica and Jessica nods while Mel looks unimpressed, "Well, then we can't trust you."

Erica crosses her arms, "Why not?"

I chuckle, "Why not? Given the fact that it was one of your Elders who threatened to kill me and my children, it can see a couple reasons."

Jessica steps up next to her mom, "You have no proof of that."

I give her a dark smirk, "Oh, but I do. Your dearest doctor Roberts told me to leave the Blackbourne Team alone or he would kill me plain and simple."

Dallas goes next, "With your motto being Family First, I feel like that it makes no sense that one of your top teams dropped their adopted family member so quickly."

Erica interrupts, "Stop talking in riddles. I know that my son left you at the hospital in order to protect you."

I snort, "That worked so well! They left me open to being threatened by Dr. Roberts."

Jessica cuts me off, "He must have had a reason."

Seb stands up, "Did you even ask what Mom, Sang has been through in the past ten years? What she had to do in order to raise ten children? Do you know how expensive that is? And have you seen Mom, her body isn't excatly the best to push out ten fucking kids. No, you didn't. Instead, you were focused on yourselves. You didn't even think to ask if she was okay. Do you even know how many times Mom has nearly died in order to protect us?"

Now, everyone is openly staring at us and I got annoyed, "And for all the Academy members listening to our conversation, feel free to contribute!"

Uncle comes in at the right time, "All of the Academy people in here that are going to insult m daughter and grand-children can leave right now and never come back. I will also be handing in my resignation to the Academy. Here, you go Sang, chocolate chip pancakes."

I smile softly, "Thanks, Uncle. You are one of the only people I will miss when I head home."

Erica interrupts again, "What do you mean, leave?"

I turn on her, "I mean evacute, run away, walk, not stay here."

Jessica seems at a lost for words, "But why?"

I give her a are-you-serious look, "With the warm welcome I just had? I am more than happy to go visit other people. Don't worry, your son and his brothers will have visiting rights that my children will organize."

I ignore everyone and begin eating my lunch as well as my kids though Noah is grumbling about how unhealthy this is while eating a bowl of fruit. Besides that, silence reigns in the diner. Uncle hasn't even bothered to take most people's orders. What's the point, they are here because they followed me.

Not long after, the doorbell goes off as new people enter the diner. My back is to the door, but I would recongize their scents from anywhere. My boys and the Academy Council has arrived. They approach me, but I stand up quickly. My kids follow my lead like a well trained team.

I seethe, "What do YOU want?"

Logan is quick to go to his own defense, "We are here to talk."

I shoot back sarcastically, "About which part? The part that Volto was an Academy elder? The part that because of you my children have already killed people?"

One of the braver people watching asked, "Is this true?"

Dr. Roberts sigh before replying, "Yes."

Erica stands up from her seat, "How?"

I chuckle in a manner that might make people think I am crazy, "I'll tell you how. Rose, the daughter of Maurine, Academy elder, harrassed the Blackbourne Team. And guess what? Because Maurine was the head, nothing was done to help them. Once I entered the picture, Rose grew jealous, taking me out by literally beating me into a coma as Volto. When I was gone, my boys didn't waver. Her obsession was such that she killed herself. So, Maurine took the mantel of Volto and hunted me down like cattle."

Melody wanders to the front of the group and stands near me. To some, this might seem like an affectionate gesture, but I know that Mel is just putting herself in a position to hand me a gun if necessary. I hate the fact that this is how my children must live, how paranoid they have become.

They are strong, but they are children. Take the world off their shoulders. Children shouldn't have to fight. They should get the chance to be young.

I continue, "Where am I? I was left at the hospital by those who I had called family and at the hospital was Dr. Roberts threatening to kill me. Only one team remained loyal enough to help, to keep the motto Family First. They saved me at a time where I surely had died. But they could not protect me forever and I was forced to leave, to search somewhere new for protection. Where could I go?"

Erica mumbled in horror, "What happened to you Sang?"

Every Academy member could recognize that look in my eye. The one that said, I have seen too much and it has scared me. I have done too much I cannot undo. That look in your eye that says I can't do this no more. The shadows threaten to overcome the light.

In books and in our hopes, one light is enough to take over the darkness of the world, but the truth is that one light is easily blown out by this encompassing darkness.

Still chuckling in a dark fashion, "Where else did I have to do? The only place that remains for the abadnoned, I turned to the criminals. I was forced to go to Russian mafia."

There was a gasp escaping everyone in the room. The Russian Mafia was huge and dealt with everything from drugs to weapons to sex. I knew that they have parts I hate, but there was nothing else to do, nowhere else to go.

I shake my head, "I had no choice, so because of your Academy, I had to raise my children alonside the Russian Mafai heir. Their first kill was when they were only six years old. Sebastian was forced to learn nursing skills for every time I became injured. All the odds were against, we had to fight. All of this, I was followed, hunted by your Academy elder Maurine who in her free time goes by Volto. Now, she is dead and I don't belong anywhere."

At this point, tears are gathering in my eyes, "I am not one of you, that is true. I can never be and I don't want to be. I will never want to be part of a group like the Academy which is so corrupt. So yeah, maybe I belong with the mafias, but I certainly will enver belong to you. If any of you wish to know the truth, look into Rose, Maurine, Leon, Blake, and Luke. Look at what they have done and you will find your answer. You will find out how corrupt your supposed pure Academy is."

I storm out. I can't do this anymore. I need to go home, I need to go where I don't have to be like this. I am feeling the longer I stay, but I can't.

I hear behind me Oliver clearing things up, "As my mother said, we will be returning to Aleksandr who I assume you all know. Our fathers can get our contact information from Raven in order to talk about sharing our custody. Mom will be more agreable later when we aren't surrounded by complete idiots. Uncle, feel free to visit us anymore. Our friends in cities across the world will be willing to help you if you need anything. Just say you are with the Rogue ghostbird and they will let yu through with the description he left."

My children turn to leave, but face the growing number of assembled Academy members, "One more thing, we swear that we will take down the Academy with all of its' corruptness and replace with something new and better that would do the same job. This is our promise."

As they leave the diner, all hell broke loose, but that wasn't my problem. I was leaving this place full of memories to never to return.
