From the abyss that is a dimension called the Speed Force, a lone young man aimlessly wanders through the void. This is Wallace Rudolph West. A superpowered former resident of a planet called Earth. He has been trapped here for a little over a year. What he feels, the word loneliness can not contain.

At times, he can see scenes unfold on his home world. He watched his funeral. He saw how the world came together to grieve for their losses.

He watched as a crazed billionaire punched holes in reality in a fool-hearty effort to free him from his prison of pure kinetic energy. He saw and chuckled at how this lone man made Mars habitable once more, by using the same energy that keeps him trapped here.

He watched as many of his enemies rejoiced. He watched as a few of his long time foes felt remorse.

He watched, for the second time in his life, as a god planned his planet's destruction.

He watched as the love of his life breaks down as she says her final goodbyes. He watched her cry, and prayed that he could comfort her. As he prayed and hoped, something miraculous happened. He could feel the air around her. Using all his strength, he created a small breeze that dried her tears.

Upon realizing what he has done, he tries focusing once more--as a way to will himself out of his prison. But, this time, he is over-run with emotion. And, instead of being freed, he is pulled further into the Speed Force.

From here, he sees a scene unfold on a world engulfed in fire and ash. He sees that same god put his plans into motion. For this world is Apokolips. And this god will not rest until the entire universe bows to Him and shouts: "All hail Darkseid!!"

Upon seeing this, the young speedster renews his efforts to escape, knowing that he has warn his world. His home. His friends. His family. His love.

He starts to run. He focuses on the last place his feet touched the Earth. And after a few moments, he punches through. He can see the sky! He can breathe the air!

But the connection to this spot is not strong enough and he is being pulled back into his prison.

He fights it.

He sees a fellow man of science. He appears in front of him. He screams in agonizing pain.

"HELP ME!!!" Wally implores.

But scientist is in shock and does nothing to help the young hero, as Wally is pulled back into his prison terribly exhausted.

But, he now knows that escape is possible. He just needs to find the right connection. One that is strong enough for him to punch through permanently.

He searches.... And he searches....

He found one.
