CHAPTER ELEVEN: After The Fact

N..no...

The sight of Ban; torso completely halved and gushing blood, sent my mind into a panicked frenzy. He was dead, because of me. I hadn't been able to do a single thing, and now there was no going back.

"You okay..?" Meliodas, who had somehow replaced the duplicate, asked softly, but I wasn't even paying attention to him. All I could see was Ban's blood, and the wicked smirk of Vaughn as he, again, reeled in my weapon.

"Aw, boo. That didn't go to plan...Oh well, one less of you to worry about!" He chuckled, sending the flying guillotine into a spin above his head once more.
"B..Ban..." I choked out the deceased's name, and my hands balled into tight fists.
"We'll take it from here, (Y/N)!" King was high overhead, already aiming his spear, and Diane was...a lot bigger than I remembered.

"Uh, guys...I wouldn't bother...I think she-" Meliodas didn't get a chance to finish as I pushed off of him, also taking with me a decent scrape of his pinkish skin. "Ow. See? She's got this!" The only thing I was truly conscious of was not stepping on Ban's remains as I charged towards the sick freak, who didn't even have a single twitch of fear.

"This is rather sweet! You missed screwing around with me?!" Carnificare came launching at me, and I leapt to the side, copping a graze to my arm before it was on its way back to him.
"HEY, TRY NOT TO TAKE TOO MANY HITS, (Y/N)! THAT STUNG A LITTLE!~" I heard Meliodas call out, but I didn't give a crap if he ended up sliced and diced. I was going to kill that man.

Vaughn began to look slightly uncomfortable as I powered on, back-tracking and weaving around sloppy, miscalculated attacks. That was when his duplicates began to spring up, making my attempts all the more difficult. I was already running out of breath, and now I was dodging fists and legs, trying to get to my goal.

I...need to...kill him..!

"Heads up!" I leapt back from one of the Vaughns as a small, dagger-like weapon pierced right through it, and shot a quick glance up to the sky to see that King was assaulting from above. I just needed to play a game of avoidance as he gave me back up, even though I still wasn't sure why they were fighting for me.

I was inevitably clipped several more times over the following minute, causing Meliodas to shout out back-handed support. I actually appreciated him in those moments, because he was finally listening to me. He and the others; save for King, were staying out of my way.

"It was cute at first, but this is getting quite boring!" Vaughn called out, gritting his teeth as he sent Carnificare out for another shot. Diving out of the way, my leg didn't quite make it in time, and a searing pain shot up from my calf.

Fuck..! Timed out! I'm not linked to Meliodas anymore..!

It wasn't a mortal wound, but it was bad enough that I wasn't going to be capable of getting anywhere near him. Not without being shredded to fleshy ribbons.
"Finally! You're a persistent little minx, I'll give you that! Now, I think it's about time you were put out of your misery..!" Vaughn laughed a final attack, and I was ready for it.

Hah...being torn apart by my own sacred treasure...Who would've thought..? I knew this was pointle-

Again, for the second time that day, I heard the connection of steel to flesh, but nothing touched me. I didn't want to look up again. I didn't want to see who else was stupid enough to lay their life on the line for a pitiful stranger. Ban had been enough.
"Wh..what is the meaning of this?!" Vaughn hissed, and the voice that followed caused my eyes to snap open.

"Drink it all...and you'll live for-ev-er~"

"B..Ba..Ba.." His name just wouldn't come out as I stared up at the man's back, where a good portion of Carnificare was protruding from.
"You sound like a lamb. Look, I can't hold him all day, so work your voodoo, child..." Bam glanced quickly over his shoulder and gave me a wink, causing my heart to palputate.

H..how the fuck..?! He..He was...

Shaking myself out of my own head, I dragged myself to my feet and ran as fast as I could, ignoring the sting of my wound.
"R..release me, you demon..!" Vaughn bellowed as he dug his heels deep into the dirt, looking like he was fighting a great force that was dragging him towards Ban. I reached him quickly, and with a fierce battle cry, I reached up and tore an entire fistful of his hair from his scalp, causing him to roar with pain.

Just you wait...

"KING! GIVE ME ONE OF THOSE BLADE THINGS! NOW!" I ordered as loudly as I could, though my voice was hoarse and crackling.
"G..got it!" The fairy yelped, doing exactly that, and before I knew it, I was shakily gripping the base of the sharp weapon. (E/C) eyes stealing all of Vaughn's attention.
"Eat shit..."

*CRRRRRRRKKKKKKKKK*

Both Diane and King screeched as I cut through the flesh of one of my legs. Clean through, but not a single drop of blood was spilled from me. It was as though I hadn't even touched it at all. Vaughn, on the other hand, yowled and wailed as his own leg parted from his body in a gushing flow of crimson and clottage.

I could only just hear the rattling of Carnificares chain as it was released from his grip, and I buckled, having used up almost every ounce of my strength.
"Catch!" Not a sound was heard from me as I scrambled to catch whatever had hit against my chest, and I realised it was my precious sacred treasure; reverted to its dormant form of being a simple, golden hilt.

I've...missed you...

I hobbled away from Vaughn, clutching Carnificare close to my heart, before stopping to look to the two I needed confirmation from.
"Nobody will think any less of you for killing him, (Y/N), dear." Merlin spoke clearly, with a faint smile on her face.
"Yep! He kind of deserves it!~" Meliodas added, shooting me a spritely thumbs up.

Th..that's right...There was a point to this...and that was...

Swallowing, I turned around and stared at the wreck of a man, who was already attempting to drag his bloodied self away, like the coward he was. It reminded me of someone in particular, which made me thirst for his demise that much more.

He reminds me of myself...

"Hey, Vaughn..!" His whole body went rigid when I called out his name, and he slowly; fearfully, turned his head to gaze upon my form.

(I drew this just for my own reference, but I chose to just throw it in so y'all could see Carnificare. In reality, (Y/N) is bloody and run ragged uwu)

"HAVE A TASTE OF WHAT YOU AND YOUR FUCK OF A BUDDY, WARREN, PUT ME THROUGH, YOU CUNT..!" I watched every second of it. The way my wrist snapped forward, up until I could hear the sickening, yet oh-so satisfying thud of his head hitting the ground, several feet away. His decapitated body shook with death rattles, and I released a slow, shaking breath.

One down...

All was silent for a while. I was sure everyone was shocked, maybe even appalled, by my brutality, but I was just drowning in relief.
"Well, fuck...That head's still roll'n~" The moment I heard Ban's voice, something else washed over me, and I dropped the sacred hilt and sprinted over to where he stood, unscathed and unbothered.

His skin felt warm when I crashed into him, grabbing hold of his tattered leather shirt, and pressing my forehead to his chest. He felt very much alive.
"Y..you fucking d..dick..! I th..I thought you were..!" My fists weakly battered at his chest, and he just laughed quietly, placing a large, grounding hand on top of my matted (H/C) hair.

"Did I forget to mention I'm immortal? My bad..." His taut body softened a little when I began to cry, and he chose to sink along with me as I crumbled to the ground; exhausted and unable to stand anymore. "Let's get you back to the Boar Hat, huh? We'll get you back up and run'n with some sleep, food 'n booze~"

I sloppily wiped away my pitiful tears as he scooped me up like I was weightless, and began to walk away from the twitching, very much dead corpse.
"That was so amazing, (Y/N)! I was so scared and ready to jump in!" Diane cooed sweetly, though her voice was a lot farther away than I originally recalled.

"Next time there's a fight...don't make us sit back...That was almost impossible to watch without taking action..." King sighed, though his nagging was without any form of edge.
"I'll be with you all later. I suppose I'll stay behind and clear up this mess..." I heard Merlin call after us, and a chorus of affirming hums followed.

"You did real good, (Y/N). I knew you still had some spirit left in you." The last voice I heard belonged to Meliodas, and for once it didn't anger me. His praise was warm, welcomed, and something that I hated to admit that I had missed.

Yeah...I still have spirit...but...it's still without any sort of direction...At least...this is over...until I have to fight against you, Melly...
