Ugh, we're almost at the finish line, folks! Honestly, I'm not even sure if I want to watch season 3, then again I said I wasn't gonna watch season 2 but here we are! Anyway, here is our reaction to episode 6, The Flashback episode!

Episode 6

Austin, Texas 1983

RJ: are we seriously getting a flashback that far back? Are we seriously getting a Joel and Tommy flashback?
Slinky: *chuckle* Surprise! Joel has mommy issues.

Joel's dad appears

Slinky: Is that...?
RJ: Is that Trevor?!
Slinky: I thought it was Twilight dad.
RJ: Maybe...but it looks like Trevor's actor when he played as Simon in Walking Dead.
Slinky: I don't think it's him. He's got long hair now.
RJ: Yeah, you're right.

Joel and his dad talk
RJ: Are they seriously giving Joel and Tommy daddy issues?
Slinky: *chuckle* Of course, everyone has daddy issues.
RJ: *chuckle* Apparently. Everyone's got daddy issues.

Flashback ends

RJ: Okay Neil and Craig, what was the point of that flashback?
Slinky: That what I was about to say. Well that was pointless.

Seth appears

Slinky: Bigot sandwich man!
RJ: Yay! I missed him.

Joel gives Seth a bag of Legos.
RJ: And he likes Legos?!
Slinky: *laughs*
Seth: My grandkids will appreciate that.
RJ: Oh, it's for the grandkids.

Joel and Ellie arrive at the dinosaur statue

RJ: Oh no pushing her in the water? This is bullshit.
Slinky: *chuckle*

Head into the museum

Slinky: She didn't even jump off the dinosaur.
RJ: *sigh* They're already ruining it.

Get into the spaceship
RJ: Wow, they're just speed running this.
Slinky: Yeah. Didn't even get the Hatosaur section.

Joel: I do okay?
Slinky: No.
RJ: *burst out laughing* This sucked.
Slinky: They just rushed through this way too fast.

Joel to girl Ellie was caught messing around with: She's 17 by the way.
Girl: Well I'm 19.
Slinky: You child predator.
RJ: Yeah, still under age.

Ellie saying that Joel doesn't own anything
RJ: It's still his house, you bitch.
Slinky: Yeah, it's his name on the mailbox.

Joel to Eugene (who is aiming a gun at him): You're empty.
Slinky: Oh this show finally learn how guns worked.
RJ: *chuckle*

Joel leads Eugene to a pretty lake view
Slinky: Look at that green screen.
RJ: *chuckle* Green screen looks beautiful today.

Joel kills Eugene

Slinky: Can't wait to talk about this in therapy with his wife.
RJ: *giggles*

Joel trying to comfort Ellie after breaking his promise

RJ: Perdo, can you sound anymore monotone? I swear.
Slinky: *chuckles*

Gale slaps Joel after Ellie tattling on him about Eugene

Slinky: I thought Joel was gonna slap Ellie instead of the therapist slapping him.
RJ: *laughs* That would've been hilarious.

Jumps to the New Years Party
RJ: Wait, wait...was that why she was mad at Joel? That he lied about Eugene and not the Fireflies?
Slinky: I guess...at least she wasn't mad for two years, just nine months.
RJ: Yeah, I guess.

Ellie walking back to the house after the scene of Joel pushing Seth down

RJ for Joel: So how's it going.
Slinky for Joel: Remember when I took out that bloater single handedly? Cause I don't.
RJ: *chuckle* Yeah, we didn't even get that flashback. This show is doing everything to make Joel not sexy.

Slinky's cat meowing in the background
RJ: Your cat is me right now.
Slinky: *chuckles as cat continues to meow*
RJ: I know, kitty, I'm crying too.

Ellie saying Joel is such an asshole.
Slinky: How?
RJ: *chuckle*

Ellie asking about the fireflies one last time.
Slinky: Oh she doesn't even know. They're even ruining this scene.
RJ: *chuckle* This show is doing everything in its power to make the game better by comparison.

Ellie upset about Joel taking her choice away.
RJ: Firefly's took it first.

Ellie: Because you're selfish
RJ: *frustrated noises*
Joel: Because I love you!
RJ: EXACTLY!! GOD!!
Slinky: *snickers*

As credits rolled
RJ: We didn't even talk about Joel's singing.
Slinky: Eh, wasn't impressed.

Critiques

It's better than the last couple episodes but that's not saying much.

The opening scene was completely pointless.

They rushed through the museum scene way too fast, just like season 1 where any moments between Joel and Ellie is just rushed.

Some great moments from the game, like exploring more of the museum or Joel killing a bloater on his own, are non existent.

This episode felt like a filler episode.

STOP TELLING US THINGS!!! SHOW US!!!

Ellie continues to be an ungrateful bitch, especially throwing Joel under the bus with Gale about Eugene. She basically just made it worse for Gale and hell Ellie doesn't have the full context of what happened after she left. She wouldn't let Gale grieve and then have a talk with Joel privately.

Also, Ellie telling Joel that the house is not his, it was giving to him....bitch, he's earning his keep in Jackson so yes, it's his home!

It's weird that they pretty much changed why Ellie is mad at Joel and stops talking to him.

The porch scene is a mix bag for me (I don't know about Slinky on how she feels) but there was some good lines and decent acting in the porch scene that wasn't in the game. I do like the moment when Joel tells Ellie that he loves her and I really wish it was in the game.

I do think that having Ellie learn about the Fireflies and then having her say she's wanting to learn how to forgive Joel in just a few minutes is a bit rushed as she didn't really get time to process this. Which is funny as I think, in the game, she took way too long to talk to Joel after she learned what happened. I think there can be a happy medium.

I also hate that Joel still can't defend himself and give the full story instead of just standing there and take the verbal beating (that goes for both game and show).

I also don't get why they've made Ellie so unlikable in the show. She was kinda unlikable in the game but not to this extent (for me at least, I don't know about how Slinky feels).

All in all, this episode is kind of a mixed bag, like I said it's better than the last couple of episodes but that's not saying much. Tell us what you guys think!
