Reader's PoV
I was on the Prydern, cracking my neck as I was finally off my post. The Captain was pissed off someone took all out food from the supply cache earlier, so he let it out on us. I sat back on my bed and sighed softly, before an Initiate showed up.
"Knight! Elder Maxson needs you!" He said, saluting. I nodded and dismissed him. I got back up and went back to the main deck, biting my cheek.
"Knight." He said, as I saluted.
"Yes sir?" I said, trying to look at anywhere but him. He was attractive for a man, and I was intimidated for several reasons. His attitude and the way he even spoke sent strange shivers, both good and bad, down my spine.
"I want you to explain something to me." He said, a pissed off tone in his voice. Red flags.
"Sir?"
"We went down the reports you brought back, and it showed that a synth is matching with the DNA of one of our own. Danse. I know you have a bonding with him as your mentor, so he must have told you." He said, stalking to me.
I tensed, trying to process this.
"A synth? What? I don't believe. That man is nothing like a synth!" I said, clenching my fist. I knew where defiance led to.
"No? Then why does the DNA match?" He said, angrer. "Is there some sort of explanation?!" He boomed. Everyone on the ship knew of the situation by his voice now.
"I-I don't know! It has to be wrong! I-I..." I looked down, head down as I tried to think.
"I understand that you're trying to find an excuse. But this is a problem. So, Knight, I am giving you the hardest order I have ever given. Eliminate Paladin Danse." He said.
I turned and left, going back up the stair. I spoke with the Quinlan and Haylan, before going back down.
I looked over to Maxson, who was staring out of the windows looking over the Commonwealth.
I left quickly, keeping my head down as I went to the place and I shot in an the turrents and Protectron, a few Stimpaxs were used and I went down. I threw grenades, shooting and taking out the enemies.
I thought back to my late husband and stiffened. Did he ever have to do this? Kill his closest friend? I went through the tunnel to Danse, seeing him sitting on a fallen filing cabinet.
"Figures he would send you." He said, chuckling. He got up and went to me. I didn't meet his eye, shaking. "And you never look at them in the eye. Not even for a synth. Are you ready?" He said.
"The question is, are you ready?" I said, looking down. I had no choice. He nodded and got down, ready.
"Ad Victorium sister." He said.
I aimed.
"Ad Victorium..." I said, shooting him. He fell and I took his tags. I sighed and left his rifle that he gave me, leaving.
Time skip.
I took my time coming back. I stayed at my settlements and helping out. I avoided the Brotherhood of Steel until I was radioed in.
I sighed as I came back, the smell of grease and laser discharge filling my nose yet again. It had only been two weeks.
I walked in, and looked around for Maxson. He was down where the control panels were, watching them over. I walked down the metal stair and they all looked at me. I held the dog has up.
"Knight! Where in the world have you been?" Maxson said, going to me.
"The missions done." I said.
"That didn't answer my question." He said.
"People needed my help." I said, and he nodded.
"Alright. Now, since we have a gap in our chain of command, I have an offer. From now on, you are now Paladin." He said.
I raised my eyebrows, surprised.
"Me?" I said.
He nodded.
"I accept." I said, smiling softly. He nodded.
"You Power Armor and the Paladin room is yours." He said, and dismissed me.
I went and got my reward, going to my new room and sitting down on the bed. It was nice here. I looked over to my pillow and noticed a note.
Come to the Sniper deck later at night.
(That area where you down down from the Command deck to the bottom and go out that door)
I got up and went to the deck, looking around as I waited. The door opened, and I looked back to see the Captain.
"Yes si-" I was cut off with a bullet on my shoulder. I stumbled and held my shoulder, gasping as I reached for my gun. He stomped on my arm and I cried out in more pain.
"W-What are you doing!"
The door opened again, a livid Elder walking over. The Captain didn't hear, raiding his gun as I tried to fight him off.
The barrel of the gun on his head stopped him.
"Get off her." He said. The Captain got off and fought with the Elder. I scramble to get up and assit the Elder, but the Captain was quickly killed, a shot in the head.
I was shaking as Maxson went over to me, pulling me inside and taking me to his room.
I looked down, pulling a Stampax out and using it, as he watched me.
"Thank you sir." I said, looking down.
"All that matters is that you're okay." He said. The door was closed as he pulled me over keeping me in a hug as he rubbed my back. I blushed and relax, shocked he was doing this. I just let it happen as it went from soft rubs to kissing to being under him in bed.
Time skip.
I woke up, a sharp ache making me remember everything as I felt the bed shift from Maxson's weight. I blushed as I felt an arm wrap around me.
"Now that our feelings are expressed, can we relax and continue on with our mission, or do you need more convincing?" He purred.
End.
I ACCIDENTALLY PUBLISHED IT TOO EARLY GUYS. SORRY.
