TW: talk about underweight

Jimmy's Perspective-

I was so glad I was able to be happy, but...that came with a hefty price.

Dinner conversations seemed to circle around one subject and one subject only.

Me.

More specifically, my medication.

Around the end of last year, I struggled with paying attention in classes again, but I assumed it was because it was the start of summer.

Starting this year, however, has shown me that the medication did in fact stop working.

"How's this new one?" My mother asked. She was a pharmacist working for a couple different offices, so she was able to get medication for me quickly.

"Fine? I- I don't know, I didn't notice any difference." I shrugged, mumbling a bit.

"James, honey, speak clearly."

"It was fine!! There was really no change, no help." I huffed in frustration.

"How was school today otherwise?" My father asked, a bit gentler with me.

"Pretty good, I saw Tango again."

"Oh really? What happened to that fancy school?"

"Apparently it didn't go all through high school, we were just dumb." Jimmy explained.

"Do you want to try your old medication?" Jimmy's mother pitched, checking their extensive medicine cabinet.

Jimmy coughed on his food, and he immediately shook his head.

"No way!! Mom, I'm already only 90 pounds." Jimmy sighed, self-conscious about his weight.

It wasn't an eating disorder or anything, but his old meds heavily affected his hunger, and he stopped eating as much simply because he didn't want to. Because of that, he was only 60 pounds in fourth grade and forever struggled to climb.

His skinny body and extensive height weren't going hand in hand, and doctors were sometimes worried about him, since he needed to be at least 110 pounds.

"I know, but we need something to work." His mother sighed and she rested her heads in her hands.

Jimmy frowned, feeling guilty.

"If you think it's best then I'll do it..."

"No, no you're right, your weight is also very important. Get a protein bar if you're still hungry after dinner, okay?" Jimmy's mother explained and Jimmy nodded.

-

Later that night, Jimmy crept downstairs quietly to tell his parents he was ready for bed. He heard them whispering about how they wanted to get him checked out by a doctor again and Jimmy froze.

"I just think it'd be best, maybe they can tell us what medicine will work."

"What do we do in the meantime?"

"Just keep up with the trial and error. He's trying to the medication he has to take at night today, so hopefully it'll work."

"I'm sure it will. Now, I'm gonna go schedule that appointment."

Jimmy's eyes widened and he ran up to his bedroom, shutting the door. His breath grew shallow as he panicked, worried about the doctors putting some wired machine on his head to measure his brain waves.

We already know I'm broken, what's a doctor gonna do to fix it?
