Chapter 39 - Wedding in Blankenburg
The day we left Budapest, we had breakfast together in the morning before my father and stepmother took Zhan and me to the airport. There was some tears when we said goodbye. But only a few, because already in December we will meet again and celebrate Christmas together.
Our flight to Berlin took only an hour and a half, then we took a cab to the train station, where we continued our journey by train until we reached Blankenburg. We got a great impression of this historic town as soon as we arrived and we were looking forward to walking around the historic old town.
The hotel where we booked a small room for us is located near the train station. It is just a small hotel and fits perfectly with the charm of this historic town.
We first just put our suitcases in our room, because we wanted to go out and see the old town right away. But also to buy two suits for our wedding ceremony, as well as two wedding rings. We even found what we were looking for quite quickly.
In a fashion store we found two great white suits that we liked right away. And in a jeweler just a few stores ahead, we then also found the wedding rings. There were many rings to choose from. But when my eyes fell on two wedding rings that looked like little crowns, I was smitten. I really wanted those rings. And Zhan ended up buying them.
Afterwards we had dinner in a small German restaurant before we went on to look for matching shoes for our suits. Again, we found them quickly and after an ice cream in an ice cream parlor, we returned to the hotel. We would have liked to stay longer in the old town, but my brother called me and told me that he and Cheng had now also arrived at the hotel.
We then met in the hotel lobby and together filled out the paperwork we must have for our wedding ceremony. They were couriered to us at the hotel while we were out and around the old town. A hotel employee was kind enough to copy our identification documents and help us fill out the paperwork. With the things we didn't understand.
After that, we retired to our rooms. We showered, put on our suits and met back downstairs in the lobby an hour later before walking together to the historic City Hall.
Once we arrived at City Hall, the officiant who would be performing our wedding ceremony introduced herself to us. We handed her all the requested documents and papers, she checked them and then also let us choose a song to play at our wedding ceremony.
She was very excited and a little nervous. Because for her, we were the first foreign same-sex couple to be married by her. My brother and Cheng had a different wedding officiant and were in a different room with her. It wasn't until our wedding officiant took us to the wedding room that they were back with us. Their wedding officiant came right along with us and stayed for our ceremony. What seemed to make our wedding officiant only more nervous.
We were shown the wedding room, a beautiful large and bright room in the middle of which is a glass table with a chair for the wedding officiant and two chairs for the couple. As well as on either side 15 chairs each for the best man and guests.
We then had to wait outside the wedding room while Gisa, our wedding officiant made final preparations, a few flowers here and there, before the music started playing and we were allowed to enter. My brother and Cheng were already sitting in their seats. And sitting in the very back corner was Corinna, their wedding officiant.
When the song was over, we sat down on the chairs and Gisa started her speech. A few times she got lost and searched for the right English word, but in itself she was very confident and managed to get rid of her nervousness.
All in all, the ceremony lasted maybe 20 or 30 minutes, I don't know exactly. It was also anything but romantic, despite the ambience around us. It was just a civil wedding, without any vows of our own. It was rather the obligatory as one knows it. Whether we both want this marriage, whether someone has objections and a little story about our getting to know each other.
In addition, except for my brother and Cheng, no other family members or friends were there, which is why the wedding room seemed empty and quiet. I guess the absence of these people, depressed the mood a little. My father and stepmother wanted to accompany us at first, but since my father was not feeling well, he has a cold, they preferred to stay home.
The most romantic part of our wedding ceremony was probably the exchange of rings. We put the rings on each other's fingers and there was a little kiss, that was our wedding ceremony. Kept short, unromantic but still beautiful in a way. Because now we are officially married and forever!
After we put our signatures on the official document and my brother and Cheng witnessed our marriage with their signatures, we were through with our marriage and the wedding of my brother and Cheng followed.
In exactly the same way, and even with the same song, the same words, and not one tiny deviation from our wedding ceremony, the two were then married by Corrina. I think the only thing that was different from Zhan and me was their elegant black suits and their simple golden rings.
Finally, we all got a glass of champagne and our official documents identifying us as a married couple, then we left. All in all, we had been at City Hall for maybe an hour and a half.
We then went to a restaurant where we ate together. As we talked about our wedding ceremonies, we realized that we all probably expected more. In movies and series, such a thing is always shown insanely romantic. The reality is quite different, as we now know.
While we were eating, Grandpa Xiao called to congratulate the four of us. We had sent him a message after we left the city hall. He said, "When you get back, we'll celebrate your weddings really big. The way it should be!" I was really happy when I heard that. And who knows, maybe we'll do a traditional Chinese wedding, too, so in the circle of the family. It would make me happy.
After dinner, my brother and Cheng went back to the hotel. Zhan and I, on the other hand, went for a walk. We walked hand in hand through the streets of the historic city until we came to a small park. We walked into the park and sat down on a bench. We watched the sunset, cuddled up to each other.
And suddenly Zhan sat up straight and took out a small box from his jacket pocket and handed it to me. I opened it and found a necklace with a pendant inside. On the pendant which has a shooting star shape and set with small sparkling diamonds, engraved on the back was "Forever Yours".
I was so happy that I even had tears in my eyes. This, forever yours, just means everything to me and it made up for the lack of romance in our wedding ceremony. I was almost bubbling over with happiness when Zhan said, "This pendant in the shape of a shooting star is symbolic of the shooting star where I wished for you. My wish has indeed come true. Since I found you, a wonderful, dear and cute vampire. A man so cute that I fell in love with at first sight. A man so sweet that I know I will love for all eternity. I will be yours forever and never leave your side. You are my ultimate dream come true and the best thing that has ever happened to me. I love you and that will never change."
"I love you too ZhanZhan. For me it can only be you because you are my dream man. My ZhanZhan who means everything to me. Never could there be anyone else for me but you. And I am looking forward to many wonderful centuries with you." I replied, crying. I was so happy and so touched that I could only cry with joy.
Zhan put the necklace on me and the small diamonds sparkled in the light of the stars. He had already bought this necklace in Beijing and had only waited for this one moment to be able to give it to me.
We sat in the little park for another hour or so before slowly walking back to the hotel. And when we arrived at the hotel and were in our room, we found a bottle of champagne and a pretty bouquet of flowers in our room. A gift from the hotel for our wedding ceremony. We opened the champagne and drank it together before going to bed and starting our wedding night.
A/N: I know that many are waiting for smut. But please forgive me for not getting to it now. Right now I don't feel like writing it. But there will definitely be smut in this story.
We didn't wake up again until around noon. We went to take showers and then met up with my brother and Cheng downstairs in the lobby. We went to lunch together and then were already preparing for our departure again. Because that very evening we will take the train back to Berlin and then fly to the US.
After I told my brother that I want to confront our mother and tell her my opinion of her as our mother, he said that he wants to join me and that we should do it together. So the four of us are going to go see my mother in the U.S. and talk to her. I wonder how she will react.
I think she will be really pissed off if we just show up unannounced at her place. But I don't care at all.
When Zhan and I were in our hotel room packing, we got a call from Zhan's parents. Zhan had written to them about our wedding and sent them pictures of us in our wedding suits.
Zhan's mother was in a hurry and excitedly demanded to speak to her cute son-in-law. This was the first time for me to talk to both of them. My mother-in-law's first words to me were, "My dear loving son-in-law, I'm sorry we haven't met yet. But we'll make up for it very soon, I promise!"
"Hello mother, it would please me if we meet soon in person." I replied shyly.
"Mother? Call me mom okay?"
"Yes, okay mom."
"And you can call me Dad." I heard from my father-in-law in the background.
"That's right. We're calling to welcome you to our family. We've been told so much about you that we almost feel like we know you personally. And I'm so excited to see you soon. And your brother too, of course. We'll call our Cheng in a moment, too."
"Mhm, I'm sure they'll both be happy."
"I hope so. You got the two of them together, didn't you?"
"More or less, and with Zhan's help, yes."
"And does Zhan always treat you well too?"
"Yes very well actually. He really spoils me. Grandpa Xiao can testify to that too."
"I'm sure he does. Grandpa Xiao is really enthusiastic about you. He told us only praiseworthy things about you. And he said that you make our Zhan very happy."
"That's right. I'm overjoyed!" Zhan shouted in between.
"I know you are in a hurry and have to leave soon. So I don't want to keep the conversation too long. I just wanted to tell you, we are very happy that you are now a part of our family and we look forward to meeting you in person soon. And then we'll all celebrate your wedding together, with everything that entails. After all, we need to properly welcome you into our pack."
"Even if I'm not a werewolf?"
"Of course! It doesn't matter if you're a vampire or a werewolf. What matters is that you love each other. So don't worry about that."
"Okay, I won't. I'm also looking forward to meeting you guys soon. Zhan has already told me a lot about you guys and I can't wait to finally meet you."
"We feel the same way about you Yibo. Take good care of each other. We'll see you soon."
"Mhm. See you soon. And thanks for calling."
"You're very welcome. Unfortunately, it was short. But I'll see you in a while, and we can talk at length then."
"We'll do that." I said. I was very happy to get the call and am now eager to finally meet them both.
We continued to pack up our things and then went downstairs to the lobby where my brother and Cheng were already waiting. They too had gotten a short call from Zhan's parents welcoming my brother to the family.
After handing in our room keys, we made our way to the train station. There we had to wait only 10 minutes until the train came. Once we arrived in Berlin, we took a cab to the airport, from where we took off on our flight to the USA. Now I am looking forward to the next part of our trip. Above all, however, on the conversation with my mother.
