Maybe we are smoking way too much because the truth is we don't want to breathe anymore. Maybe because we feel so undeserving of the oxygen reaching our lungs that we began ceasing the process ourselves. Maybe we see every cigarette we light and put between our lips as a ticket to a state where breathing is no longer a necessity. Maybe that's what we really want—to be reduced into ashes and be gone with the wind.
