XXIII. We've Made it So They Have to Hide
Something strange caught my mind one day,
Pulling it like a snare,
How leaders look down their noses at us,
Refuse to be aware
They're doing exactly the thing they hate,
Their issues, they don't share.
(We've made it so they have to hide.)
I'm surprised at the things I find
When I dare look and see
In the lives of pastors, preachers
Their darkest flaws, they sleep
In secret, waiting to bare claws
Slashing when they don't preach
Destroying their lives and leaving
Us all in grief so deep.
(We've made it so they have to hide.)
Is it possible that maybe
We've set the bar too high –
Pay attention, this doesn't mean
They shouldn't care or try
But sometimes I fear that we've
Made idols – we can't deny
(We've made it so they have to hide.)
