Chapter 4: Two Brothers' Past
After the past battle, Reinhardt went back to rest his tired muscles. Now, in a squad of three, I walk with Mercy and Genji to travel to a disturbance in Hanamura. On the way there, we decide to stop in an outpost to rest the night. Traveling from the Americas, Which are completely beautiful! it took three days to get to Japan. Now that we're here, we don't know where to go. Genji had told Mercy and me that he could help us by guiding us through Hanamura.
In the middle of the night, I wake up, unable to sleep. I look around and see Genji is still up as well, watching over Mercy and I. "Oh, you are awake Tracer," Genji says looking up from his meditation. "Oh, yeah. I couldn't sleep, love," I say, blushing a bit. "I see. What troubles you, dear friend?" he says, hopping off his stool and sitting on his knees in front of me. "I guess I'm just worried about what we could face in this land..." I confess. "Not to worry, Tracer. While I'm guiding you. Consider me your shīrudo," he says in Japanese. "Of course. Thank you, Genji." I nod, "Of course, dear friend. Overwatch has bestowed the gift of being reborn to me. It is my honor." he says, walking back over to meditate.
In the morning, we reach the Shimada Temple. There, the Temple's Keeper informs us of what has been happening every year on the same day. "Overwatch Agents, so glad you could make it." he bows, "Genji Shimada, it is an honor to be in your presence." Genji bows, "What seems to be the problem in this sacred place?" He asks. "You should know, Master Shimada. The problem returns," he says. Genji looks at the ground, "I see what I must do. We shall return tonight, for tonight is the night I expect him to show his face. Agents, I will explain after the deed is done. Tracer, I want you to make sure he doesn't make an escape. Dr. Ziegler, I want you to be ready in case there are injuries." he says. "Genji, I won't just sit back and let you take care of everything, love!" I exclaim. He sighs, "I suppose it isn't my duty to decide for you. Alright. You can help," he finally agrees.
Later that night......
Genji watches a strange man sneak his way into Shimada Castle. He positions me to block escape routes anyway, I offered at the end, so.... The man sits on his knees. He then says, "You are not the first assassin sent to kill me, and you will not be the last," he snaps. "You are bold to return to Shimada Castle, the Den of your Enemies," Genji announces, dropping from the ceiling. "This was once my home, did your masters not tell you who I was?!" the man exclaims, shooting an arrow at Genji, who calmly dodges it. "I know who you are, Hanzo," Genji says softly. Hanzo looks surprised and shoots a curved arrow, which Genji dodges once more. "I know you come here every year on the same day," he continues to push Hanzo's buttons. Hanzo shoots two more arrows. They both miss. "You try so hard to honor someone you murdered!" Genji says, launching three shurikens at him. "You know nothing of what happened!" Hanzo exclaims, shooting an arrow Genji blocks but gets knocked off the platform. Hanzo then shoots one arrow that splits into fifty. Genji dodges the most them and blocks the rest. He then backflips back onto the platform and runs onto the terrace. Hanzo follows him, an arrow ready. "I know you believe your brother disgraced the clan, and you had to kill him to maintain order. That, it was your duty," Genji comments as Hanzo shoots an arrow to where he thought Genji was. "It was my duty, and my burden..." Hanzo says, drawing two arrows and fires one. "That does not mean I do not honor him!" Hanzo finishes, firing the other. The first arrow Genji blocks, the second Genji cuts in half. Hanzo growls in frustration and charges at Genji. Genji and Hanzo fight melee for a while until Genji knocks him to the edge and pins him. "You think you honor Genji with incense offerings?! Honor resides in one's actions!" Genji exclaims. "You dare lecture me about honor? You are not worthy to say his name!" Hanzo exclaims, knocking Genji away, sliding and picking up the arrow that Genji blocked. "Ryuu ga waga teki wo kurau!" He yells in Japanese, a pair of spiritual twin dragons flying at Genji. Genji waits for the right time, his hand on his blade. "Ryuujin no ken wo kurae!" Genji yells in Japanese, a singles green spiritual dragon flies out and he starts controlling the Twin Dragons! He flings them back towards Hanzo, which goes through him and disappears. Hanzo hits his knees. "Only a Shimada can control the Dragons....who are you?" he says wearily. Genji dashes forward and puts his blade to Hanzo's throat. "Do it then. Kill me," Hanzo commands. Genji waits a moment, "No. I will not grant you the death you wish. You still have much in this life, brother," Genji says. Hanzo's eyes widen. "No, no! My brother is dead..." he says defiantly. Genji removes her face mask, showing Hanzo his face. Hanzo looks shocked, "Genji....what have you become...?" he asks. "I have accepted this life. I forgive you, Hanzo. Now it's time to forgive yourself," he says, walking away. "The world has changed, Hano. And it's time to pick a side." Genji says, jumping to the floor level. Hanzo draws the arrow from the wall and Genji and the other two Overwatch Agents stand on the ground level. "Real life is unlike the stories our father told us! You are a fool for believing in so!" he shouts. "Maybe I am a fool to think there is still hope for you, but the time draws near, Hanzo," he says, throwing a smoke bomb down as he and the other two agents are gone.
"Genji, it'll be okay, love," I tell him. "I know.." Genji says calmly, "it's his turn to decide."
