Chapter Five- Oh, how I love social awkwardness

"Eddie. Eddie? You gotta wake up, I'm having people over soon." Jacqueline poked me in the side. I rolled over. And then I registered what she said.

People? How could she have people over? And interrupting my nap for it? Nuh uh.

"But what if, and hear me out here, you didn't have people over and I could finish my nap." I said, every bit of reasoning I had was put into that statement. If she said no to that, then I don't know what she might say yes to. What could possibly be better than being alone and sleeping?

She sighed, then laughed a bit.

"You, my friend, need to meet some people."

"And you, my friend, need to experience a good nap."

Unfortunately for me, my argument didn't last long, as one hour later I was being forced to fill a pitcher with ice and soda. I didn't bother asking why people couldn't just add ice to their own taste, as Jacqueline has her own reasoning for everything, and using logic never prevails.

"So tell me again why people are coming over?" I asked, for only the twenty second time. She sighed.

"Because they are people I know and like and you need friends."

"But, friends are overrated."

"Are you implying I'm overrated?" She questioned.

"Uhhh... no?" I questioned myself in return.

"Good."

"So tell me again why I have to be out here while there are strange humans?"

And then, the worst possible thing that could have ever happened, happened. The unimaginable horror. The chaos that became my mental state in the moment when it, the unspeakable, happened.

The doorbell rang. So of course, I did the only natural thing as a response.

I screamed.

"BUT WHY? WHAT HAVE I DONE TO DESERVE THIS? WHAT WRONG COULD I HAVE POSSIBLY DONE FOR THIS IN MY SHORT LIFETIME?" I wailed, as I grabbed Jacqueline's leg in an attempt to prevent her from opening the door. It would have worked, except for 1. She's stronger than me, and 2. I didn't get a very good grip, so she did eventually open the door. The person standing outside gave a bewildered look to the both of us, but mostly my strange position on the floor, with my arm still outstretched to reach for her leg in an attempt to prevent this very moment. I quickly stood up and brushed myself off.

"So uh, I brought nachos-" the stranger began, as I cut them off.

"I SWEAR I'M NOT AS WEIRD AS THAT LOOKED." I said in a loud voice, and then, I proceeded to regret my entire existence.

Jacqueline laughed. "Are you sure about that statement?"

I shook my head. "Nope. I've always been a weirdo. Always have been, always will be. I just try not to look like one in front of people I don't know." I glared.

Jacqueline smiled at me. It made me feel nice, in some sort of strange, magic way. She stepped back inside, and the strange dude came with her. He looked Asian-American to me. He was tall, and thin. He was rather pretty, I had to say, with dark hair and eyes, and he was wearing a grey scarf on a black shirt with skinny jeans. Fancy. Perhaps I misjudged this man.

"Eddie, this is my friend Blaze Gregory Anderson. Greg, this is Edward Thomas Becker.

I don't know why, but I found his name so unfitting to his look. He didn't seem like a Blaze to me, but oh well. He held up a brown paper bag.

"As I was saying, I brought nachos."

I think I did misjudge this man. Yes, humans are bad, and friends are overrated, but people who being food are okay. Unless it's seafood, then they suck. I hate seafood. Jacqueline took the bag and went toward the kitchen, so I assumed she was getting plates.

"Jacqueline, you may have better taste in friends than I thought. I mean, he brought food, and it wasn't seafood." I stated. Blaze laughed, and walked inside, stating,

"Seafood isn't as great as some make it out to be, however I don't mind shrimp." Eh, I could get behind that. Even though we all know shrimp sucks.

Blaze (or Greg, as Jacqueline called him) took a seat on the couch in Jacqueline's parents' living room. I was going to go grab a drink, and then another one of those strange creatures called a "human" came inside.

"YOUR FAVORITE FRIEND IS HERE."

"KRIS!" Jacqueline yelled in response, and then ran out of the kitchen to hug her as I stood, bewildered. I mean, yes, I had only know Jacks for a few days, but how was I not the favorite friend? It never occurred to me that she knew so many other people.

"Oh, sorry Eddie, this is Whitney Kristin Travis, otherwise known as Kris." Kris gave me a wave, and I returned it, only my version was much more awkward. She had super pale, almost white blonde hair, and what looked like pale blue eyes.

"Oh, so you're the Eddie I've heard so much about," Kris stated.

"What uh, exactly have you heard?" I asked.

"Only the good things." She laughed, and took off her brown boots.

I could suddenly feel my social awkwardness levels rise when I saw Matt pulling up in a red car. I felt tense, but I didn't know why. He just made me feel uneasy.

"Hey Jacks!" He yelled, right by my ear. I flinched, and he turned to me and mumbled, "Hi Eddie." Something about him, I don't know what it was, but I was so uncomfortable. He hadn't done anything, he was just one of those people.

"Hi, Matt," I responded cautiously.

"Salutations Kris," Greg started, "hello Matt." Matt gave Greg a wave, and almost shoved past me to get inside. He walked right up behind Jacks, and pulled her into a hug from behind. I almost growled out loud, it made me so mad. There was something, I didn't like him at all. Jacqueline playfully punched his arm.

"How many people did you plan on being here?" I asked. So far, it was only Greg, Kris, and Matt, but that was already too many new people for me to handle. I mean, I guess Matt wasn't new, but he was irritating, so I didn't want to handle him.

"Don't worry," Jacks said with a chuckle, "only these three, the last one couldn't make it."

"Thank goodness for that."

"Eddie!"

"I'm sorry, I'm just bad with socializing. And people in general. And the entire human race. And existing as a whole."

Jacqueline shook her head and grinned. She was beautiful, her fair skin seeming to glow in the light from the window. Her brown hair was in a messy ponytail, shorter strands fell in front of her caramel eyes. She brushed them behind her ears, and then Matt gave me a strange look. I realized I had been staring, but if you saw her, I don't think you could blame me.

"So," she began, "gather around. It's time for truth or dare."
