Henry Hart x OC
Julia Dunlop trudged into school, grimacing when the icy cold rain poured down from the sky. She paused by the front door and looked outside. Jasper, her brother, ran from their mom's car, a crazy look on his face. She grinned when seeing him in his rain-soaked clothes, but then she glanced down at herself. They were in the same boat.
She didn't understand why the rain was coming down so intensely. It never rained this much in Swellview. She side-stepped out of the way as her brother barrelled into the school, immediately sliding across the tiled floor. She hid a giggle behind her hand as she stepped forward, glad that no one else was around.
"Jasper," Julia said as he went splat against Henry Hart's locker, "how do you always embarrass yourself?"
"I don't always embarrass myself," he said, blowing out a breath. He held himself up by the lockers with a hurt look on his face. "It just happens a lot."
The doors squealed open, and Julia turned around. Her heart fluttered against her rib cage when she saw Jasper's best friend, Henry Hart. He held an umbrella over himself and Charlotte Page, their other best friend. She ducked her head when he grinned at her.
"I see you two forgot your umbrellas," he said, wiping his feet off on the black carpet. He clicked his umbrella shut as Charlotte made her way over to them, a weird look on her face. "Jasp, why are you hugging the lockers?"
"He slid into them, didn't he?" Charlotte asked. Julia quickly nodded, and the two girls shared a smile. "Why are you always getting hurt?"
"Julia said the same thing to me, and what I told her was that it doesn't happen all the time, just some of the time! It's like I attract bad things."
"Definitely," Henry said, laughing. He pushed Jasper out of his way and pressed his thumb against the sensor. His locker popped open, and he shoved his backpack into the open space. "Charlotte, why is it raining so hard?"
Charlotte scoffed, crossing her arms over her chest. "Are you only asking me because I'm smart?" Henry looked at her with wide eyes, and Julia giggled. "Thanks for taking advantage of my intelligence."
"You should be happy that I want to listen to you!"
"Excuse me?"
"Okay, guys," Julia said, raising her hands. Henry and Charlotte glanced at her with differing looks on their faces. Jasper stood to the side, watching it all play out. "That's enough fighting for today, and today just started!"
Then a beeping noise sounded, just as a large group of kids entered the school. Henry, Jasper, and Charlotte all shared panicked looks, and Julia frowned. She had noticed lately that Henry's watch beeped at random times, and he left in a hurry when it beeped. And it seemed like Charlotte and Jasper knew something about the beeping.
Julia was left out of their little secret, but not anymore. She would figure out what was going on, no matter what happened to her.
"Oh, would ya look at that," Henry said awkwardly. He pointed to his watch with a strange look on his handsome face. "It's my alarm for class! I better get moving." He flashed a quick grin at Julia, who smiled back even though she was confused. "See you later, Juls."
Henry took off toward the back of the school with Jasper and Charlotte following him. As the people flooded into the school, she whispered to herself, "Oh, you have no idea how soon I'll see you."
---
It was quite easy to follow Henry. He didn't check and make sure that no one was following him, and he crashed through nature like a wild man. Charlotte and Jasper didn't follow Henry all the way to the park, which was strange. They headed toward Junk 'N Stuff instead. But Julia kept pace with Henry even with all the rain coming down around them.
She hid behind a tree as Henry met up with his boss from Junk 'N Stuff in the middle of the park. They stood around a strange-looking machine that wasn't getting rained on like the rest of Swellview was. Then, Henry's boss pulled out a tube of gum and blew a bubble, turning into . . . Captain Man?!
Henry followed suit, and as the lights flashed, she saw that he was Kid Danger. Julia sat down hard, her eyes widening. Henry Hart was Kid Danger? How could that be? He was just a high schooler with a part-time job, not a sidekick to a superhero! But as she went through her memories, Julia realized that everything lined up. He missed school a lot and left a lot of their group hangouts because of his beeping watch. Was he fighting bad guys this whole time?
She ran a hand through her drenched hair, her heart thundering against her chest. The boy she liked was Kid Danger . . . no freaking way. Her friends knew and didn't bother telling her.
Something snapped just beyond her, and Julia poked her head around the trunk of the tree. She frowned when she saw Dr. Minyak standing near Kid Danger and Captain Man, his weird voice traveling across the park. "You two must be wondering why it's raining so hard," Dr. Minyak said. He sounded pleased with himself. "It's because of me!"
Captain Man answered, but his voice was cut short as something else cracked near her. She turned around and let out a high-pitched noise as a woman grabbed onto her arm. The woman jerked her toward a random car that was parked on the side of the road, clamping a hand over her mouth. Julia tried to fight against the woman, tried to get away, but the woman's grip was iron-tight. She couldn't get away, no matter how hard she tried.
The woman shoved her into the car, and slammed the car door shut on her. Julia tried to open the door back up, but it seemed like the child locks were on. The woman got into the front seat of the car and in a strange British accent said, "Don't try to get out. You're stuck here."
"Why? What do you want with me?"
"We want Kid Danger and Captain Man."
Before Julia could respond to this woman, she pointed something at her face and pressed a button. A red light appeared on the machine, taking Julia's vision with it.
---
Julia woke up with a raging headache. She slowly opened her eyes, taking in the warehouse she found herself in. She was in a cage in the middle of the bare warehouse, and Dr. Minyak and the woman paced in front of her cage. She immediately shut her eyes, not wanting to be seen awake.
"Where are they?!" Dr. Minyak yelled. "I just want to take out Captain Man and Kid Danger!"
"Wait patiently," the woman said, her voice thin against the raging man. "They'll be here."
As she said that, the doors on the far end of the warehouse burst open. Julia popped open an eye and saw Captain Man and Kid Danger stroll in like they had the time of day. Their suits were drenched, which meant that it was still raining outside. And then Kid Danger -- Henry -- slipped on the concrete and hit his head on the metal door, going down.
"Kid!" Captain Man said in a strangled voice. He turned on Dr. Minyak and the woman, and an angry look was on his face. "You made him get knocked out!"
"No, we did not," Dr. Minyak said. He grinned at Captain Man, shaking his head. "He was just too clumsy. Ha! You can't take me down without your sidekick!"
"Please, I've taken you out before having him as my sidekick."
"No, you really haven't."
"Yes, I have!"
"Enough!" the woman yelled. "I don't understand why you two have this rivalry! Dr. Minyak, take him out."
Dr. Minyak and Captain Man began throwing punches at each other while the woman dragged Henry's unconscious body over to where Julia was being kept. She closed her eyes again before the woman realized that she was awake. She wanted to make sure that the bad guys were surprised that she was awake.
The metal door to the cage slammed shut, so she hesitantly opened up her eyes and saw that Henry was in the cage with her, too. She reached out a hand and could just barely touch him. Because of that, she started slapping his arm to try to wake him up so they could figure out how to get out of there.
He woke with a start, his eyes wide. He gingerly brought a hand up to his head and groaned. "Ugh, what happened?"
"You ran into a metal door after slipping on rainwater," Julia whispered. "You made fun of Jasper for doing that this morning, and now you did it."
"How do you know --?"
"It was pretty easy to figure out. Plus, I followed you to the park and saw you transform into your Kid Danger suit." Henry frowned, and she shrugged sheepishly. "Sorry. I noticed that Charlotte and Jasper knew something that I didn't, and I didn't like it. So, I followed you."
Henry closed his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I told them that you should know," he whispered. Julia's frown deepened. Her own brother didn't want to tell her about Henry's secret? Why would he keep that from her? "I'm sorry, Julia. It wasn't fair for you."
"You wanted to tell me?"
"Well, duh. I like you." Henry's eyes flashed open like he didn't want to say that. Julia's face reddened in surprise. She didn't know that Henry liked her. He cradled his head, frowning. "Wait, that wasn't supposed to come out. Sorry."
Henry tried to move away from her, but she reached out and placed a hand on his arm. Henry glanced down and looked at her hand, a weird look passing across his face. "I like you, too," she said, flashing him a soft smile. Then, she motioned toward Captain Man and Dr. Minyak fighting while the woman furiously typed away at a laptop. "But we'll talk about that later. Do you have something to take out the woman?"
"Yeah, I have my laser. I can get Nurse Cohort and Dr. Minyak with it." Henry pulled a clear rectangle from his pocket. Then, he lifted it and pointed it toward Nurse Cohort, tapping it once. The laser shot passed her at an odd angle. "Are there two Nurse Cohorts?" Henry asked, squinting forward.
"No," Julia said, snatching the laser out of his hands. She pointed it at the woman and shot her in the back. She went down hard, taking the computer with her. Julia looked at Henry and said, "Does it kill them?"
"Um, that would be illegal," Henry said, shaking his head. "They get knocked out."
"Okay."
Julia focused her sights on Dr. Minyak in all his craziness as he tried punching Captain Man. He missed, so she quickly pressed the laser, watching as the red line arced through the air, landing square on the back of his head. "What was that?" Dr. Minyak asked, scrubbing a hand across the back of his head before falling down.
Captain Man ran over to them and broke the lock off of the cage. Henry crawled forward, and Ray helped him up. Julia followed them and picked up Nurse Cohort's laptop, tucking it underneath her arm. "Let's go to the Man Cave," Captain Man said, looking at Julia. She frowned, but Henry wore a happy smile. "I already called the cops, and Kid Danger needs help."
Julia moved to the other side of Henry and wrapped her other arm around him, helping Captain Man hold Henry up. "Is now a good time to talk about our feelings?" Henry asked as they exited the warehouse. "Because they're done fighting."
"Yes, now's a good time to talk," Julia said, laughing.
"Okay. I like you, and you like me. I know you're Jasper's sister and all, but I don't care." Henry grew quiet as Julia's heart thundered against her chest. "I wanted to ask you this for a long time. Will you be my girlfriend?"
It felt Julia's heart was going to jump out of her chest. She opened her mouth to say something, but Captain Man beat her to it. "Ugh, you're Jasper's sister?" he asked, looking at Julia over Henry's head. "Gross."
"I'm different from my brother," Julia said, rolling her eyes. "And he's special. I love him."
"Anyway," Henry said, drawing the word out, "what do you say, Julia?"
"Yeah, I'll be your girlfriend!"
"Feels goooood."
