Hannah Montana OC
"This stinks," Miley complains as she holds a worm.
"Of course they stink," Lily replies. "They live in their own poop."
I snicker to myself as I set my own worm down. They really did smell bad, but I ignored it. We needed to get this science project done.
Miley's shoulders droop slightly. "Not the worms, my life. I cannot believe I gave up Jesse McCartney for a slimy piece of fish bait."
Lily is very offended as she takes the worm from my twin sister. "She didn't mean that, Ernie. She loves you."
Lily sets the worm down as well before looking at the sky. Her eyes light up like the moon that is nearly full tonight. She gets up and heads toward the ledge of our front porch. Miley and I glance at each other before joining Lily.
Miley leans against the ledge. "If only I could've told Jessie the truth. He would've understood about school stuff . . . but then I'd blow the secret. This double life is so hard."
I roll my eyes. "It's just Jesse McCartney," I say, shrugging.
"Exactly!" Miley says, throwing out her arms.
Before she could say anything more, Lily points to the sky, saying, "Oh, look! A shooting star! I wish for an A on the project. What do you wish for?"
Miley contemplates this for a second. I almost say what I want to wish out loud, but Miley beats me to it. "Oh, man . . . I wish . . . I wish there was no secret," she says softly. "I was just Hannah Montana all the time. Sure would make life a whole lot easier."
I stare at her, tilting my head to the side. If she wanted to just be Hannah Montana all the time, where would I be? Would I still be Hannah's amazing twin sister? Or would I end up somewhere else with a new family and a whole different life?
"Sam," Miley says, breaking me out of my thoughts. I glance around to find Lily already gone.
"What?" I ask, slightly annoyed.
"Where were you in the last five minutes?" she asks, waving her hand in my face.
"Sorry," I say, not meeting her eyes. "I was thinking."
"About?"
"Life."
Miley fake-gags. "No more thinking for tonight. It's time to go to bed."
I nodded. We head inside and I lock the door. Shutting off the lights, we walk upstairs. We go our separate ways to our bedrooms, and I say, "Love you, Miley."
"Love you too, Sam."
I shut my door behind me and immediately stumble over a pair of pants lying on the floor. I let out a yelp as I land on my floor. The air is knocked out of my lungs, and I groan. Unsurprisingly, my family has not gotten up to check on me. Miley is probably asleep already and Jackson is too. I have no idea where Dad is, but he would not hear it either.
I crawl to my bed and slide under my covers. Sleep immediately washes over me, and I close my eyes.
---
I breathe out as I slowly wake up. That was one of the best nights of sleep I've ever had. I stretch my arms over my head and sigh. Life is good when I sleep well.
I am woken up fully by my sister yelling. She sounds very excited, and I wonder what it's about. I fall out of bed and land on my feet. Might as well get up and check it out.
I open my door and stumble down the stairs. For some reason, everything looks different. There is a huge picture of Miley - I mean, Hannah Montana. I frown as I realize no one is in our living room. That is, until Miley lands on the couch. She leans forward and falls onto a pillow. But it's not Miley. It's Hannah Montana.
"You couldn't have given me one more minute?" Miley whines.
I step forward as Roxy - who is dressed as an angel - says, "Sorry, but the top of the gondola? Romantic. Bottom? Nasty!"
I frown. What in the world did they do without me? And why is Roxy dressed as an angel? "What's going on?" I ask.
Miley ignores me as a dreamy look enters her eyes. "I can't believe it. All these years, I was so paranoid about my secret getting out, but, boy was I wrong! This life is perfect."
I stop where I'm at in the living room as her sentence repeats in my head. She told her secret? When? Did she spill the beans while I was sleeping? And why would she do that without telling me first? She usually tells me everything, especially since we're twin sisters.
The door suddenly flies open and a woman I have never seen before strolls in like she owns the place. "Miley," I say, stepping closer to my sister. She finally notices me so I whisper, "What is going on?"
"I'll tell you in a second," she replies.
"Hannah-kins! How's my favorite little rock-star?" the lady says before embracing Miley. She turns to me and says, "Sammy! How's my favorite little girl?"
I squirm under her arms. I am not a little girl. I'm the same exact age as Miley, except that she was born six minutes before me.
"Great," Miley says, plastering a smile on her face. "How's my favorite little . . ."
Miley looks to Roxy for help and she says, "Stepmom."
Miley and I look at each other. I am outraged that Dad would marry someone without me knowing. "Step-what?" I ask.
"Candice was your first home school teacher," Roxy explains. I raise my eyebrows at 'home school teacher.'
"And now she's our mom? That must have been some parent teacher conference." I giggle at what Miley says. She turns to me and says, "My wish from the shooting star came true, Sam! Miley is no more. Hannah is forever!"
"What?" I ask softly.
"My wish has come true!"
I am about to say something when Dad strolls through the door with a snowboard under his arm. Candice runs over to him. "Hey, hey, hey darling! You missed some gnarly boarding," he says.
I groan at how over-affectionate he is. "Hey, Miley," I say. She faces me so I say, "I'll be back."
"Where are you going?" she asks as I stand up.
"The beach," I say. "I need to find Jackson or Oliver or Lily. Someone who is normal."
I exit through the door and hurry along the path. I can't believe Miley's wish came true. At least I'm still her twin sister. But I wonder what else has changed. Everything out here looks familiar. Rico's shack is still standing and he is behind the counter. I almost head over to him when I see Jackson.
"Jackson?" I ask, looking him up and down. He hasn't seen me yet, which is good. He looks ridiculous. A metal detector is secured in his hands as he scurries along the beach. His hair is wacky and his eyes are wild. I almost walk over to him when Miley and Roxy appear out of thin air. They start chatting to him so I turn around. "Oliver!"
He is wearing the exact same outfit as Rico was, which is strange. Oliver is counting money next to Rico as he calls out, "Yo, yo, yo, if you want to be a-viewing, on what a pop-stars doing, just slide me a five and watch the Hannah house live."
I stop in my tracks. He has turned into Rico! Miley wanders over to me just as Roxy says, "All this happened because . . ."
"Because I was never Miley, I never went to regular school, and so I never met Oliver. I got it," Miley says slowly. She pauses for a second before saying, "Oh no. Angel, what happened to Lily?
I turn around just in time to see Lily, Amber, and Ashley stepping onto the beach. Miley and I both gasp in surprise as they share their handshake together.
"Miley," I say, "what happened to Lily?"
"Since we never went to public school," Miley says slowly, "we couldn't become friends with Lily. So she became friends with them."
Lily's eyes dart to us and a sly smile rises on her face. She whispers to Amber and Ashley. They stroll over to us just as Lily shouts, "It's Hannah Montana!"
Miley runs off with Roxy, leaving me with Lily, Amber, and Ashley. They circle me and I glance around. "Lily," I say, raising my arms. "What are you doing?"
"Look, girls," Lily says, ignoring me. "It's the unknown sister to Hannah Montana! And, girls, look at what she's wearing!" They giggle as they take in my jeans and hoodie. "I think we should give her a makeover."
"On the beach?" Amber asks, frowning.
"Since we're here," Lily says slowly, "yes."
I shake my head. "What are you guys doing?" A dress magically appears in Lily's hands as they press in around me. Hair products are somehow in Amber's hands and makeup is in Ashley's. "Stop this!" I yell.
They throw off my hoodie and I growl. Who in their right mind would ignore this harassment? We are literally on the beach! The dress is shoved on my body, and I can hear Miley say, "She's going to kill them once the makeover is done."
I try to find her, but she must be hiding from her fans. I want to dropkick every single one of these girls across the world, especially Miley for not helping me. I cry out as they tug through my hair.
For some reason, something flashes through my stomach. I don't actually like this, do I? I can't! This isn't me. My sister is the fashionista between the two of us. I'm the tomboy who loves to skateboard with normal Lily.
"This is the new and improved Sam!" Lily says with a flourish. She snaps a picture of me and shows it to me. I cringe at how beautiful I actually look.
"Lookin' good," Oliver said with a nod.
I study the picture more, enjoying how I look. Maybe I could do this more often.
