Adam Davenport x OC

In the midst of chaos, fire, and children screaming, Adam Davenport had the audacity to hit on Imogen Austin.

She had volunteered her time here at the Mission Creek Toy Drive at the high school, passing out toys that she had collected and that Tasha Davenport, the TV reporter, famous for her disastrous news clips, had provided for the needy kids. It was very important to her because she used to have some hard Christmases where she didn't have the chance to get toys or even clothes. Now that her family was doing much better financially, she wanted to help those who were in the same situations they had been in.

But now, the entire toy drive seemed to be going up in flames. She waited against the far wall in the cafeteria near her own little station. A small part of her told her that she needed to get out of there before something bad happened to her, but she wanted to wait for all the kids to be evacuated first. That was more important to her.

However, that was when Adam Davenport approached her. He grinned at her with that magnetic look in his eyes, the one that she had seen almost every day for a year, before she had known that he was a bionic hero. Sure, Imogen had thought that Adam was cute, but she couldn't believe the way just sidled up next to her as one of his dolls blew up in the face of a young girl.

"Hello there," he said, winking at her. He casually leaned against the wall, kicking a leg up to brace himself. For some reason, he only had eyes for Imogen. He was currently missing his brother wrestling with a doll and his sister sprinting around, trying to get the rest of the children out. "What brings you to the toy drive today?"

"Um, I wanted to help the kids who can't have a good Christmas," Imogen said with a frown on her face. She had the biggest urge to get out of the high school cafeteria before one of the Davenport dolls exploded on her. But it seemed like she was stuck talking to Adam. "But it seems to be ruined now."

"How do you mean?"

Imogen couldn't believe that he was unable to see the chaos around him. "Your bionic dolls," she said slowly. He took that moment to look around the cafeteria, but he quickly found her eyes again. "They're destroying everything."

"Oh, those." He waved his hand through the air as if none of that really mattered. She couldn't understand why he was talking to her like this, though, not when both of his siblings were trying to take care of the rest of the dolls that were terrorizing the kids. "I've seen worse disasters. I mean, have you seen Chase lately? His hair looks horrible."

"Shouldn't you be helping me evacuate?" she asked him.

"Right. But I just have to say that you're the prettiest girl I've ever seen before."

Imogen frowned even deeper at Adam. "What? I don't think now's the time to hit on me."

"I've never seen you around here before," Adam continued just as Tasha Davenport, pushing the last few kids out into the hallway, shouted, "Merry Christmas!"

"Well, I'm a student. I'm Imogen Austin," she told him. She started hurrying toward the doors that lead into the hallway, Adam easily keeping up with his long legs. "You've probably never seen me because I actually go to class."

He laughed out loud almost as if she had said something funny. Imogen didn't think that she did. "You're funny," he said, echoing her thoughts. "I didn't know that."

"Adam," Bree said once they made it to her and Chase. She took him by the arm with a frown on her pretty face. "Stop talking to Imogen. We need your help."

"You know her?" Adam asked Bree, gesturing to Imogen.

"Of course. She's in my history class."

"Why haven't you introduced us together?" he asked her. For some reason, he sounded a little hurt. "She's so pretty!"

"Stop it!" Bree snapped at him.

"We're missing one," Chase said just as Imogen was pushed by the three Davenport siblings to get to the safety of the hallway. She didn't want to be around them any longer because there was a high possibility of her getting hurt around one of them. "Where can it be?"

"I'll check the hallway," Adam said, and he suddenly appeared right next to Imogen. "Fancy seeing you here, Imo. Can I call you Imo?"

"No." Imogen tried to walk faster than Adam, but he stepped in front of her and started walking backward just so he can see her. She tried to step around him. He followed her every move. "I'm trying to get to safety here."

"That's why I should stay by you," Adam said with a bright smile. "I'm trained to help those who can't help themselves."

"I can definitely help myself."

Adam stopped walking as a frown appeared on his face. He slowly turned around, and his body grew tense for some reason. Imogen peeked around his wide shoulders and saw the last doll standing on the circular bench in the middle of the hallway. "Uh-oh," Adam said to his miniscule doll. "Imogen, stay behind me, okay? I don't want you to get hurt."

"Adam, be careful," Chase said before Imogen could answer him. But she was grateful to suddenly be behind Adam because the look on that Adam doll scared her. "He's unstable."

"So am I," Adam growled.

He dodged the heat vision that the Adam doll shot at him, but suddenly, Imogen found herself looking deep into the bright red lights. The shot of heat vision was coming directly at her face, but she was pulled backward quicker than she had ever moved. When she was able to see again, she realized that Bree had grabbed her arm and pulled her away before she could get struck by heat vision.

"Thanks," Imogen said softly to Bree.

"Anytime."

Adam destroyed the doll with his own heat vision and turned back to face Chase, Bree, and Imogen. "Why is it you always hurt the ones you love?" Adam asked forlornly, shaking his head. Imogen hadn't ever seen Adam look like that before.

"I'm gonna need you guys to clean this up," Tasha Davenport said as she walked back into the hallway. She shook her head at the three Davenport siblings. A Christmas tree fell down in the cafeteria.

"Tasha," Adam said, and he suddenly sounded like he was back to his old self. "It's Christmas. Stop thinking about what you need and start thinking about others. Like Imogen."

Imogen sighed, and so did Tasha. Tasha seemed to be at her wit's end with Adam, Bree, and Chase, and Imogen could understand why. Ever since the world found out that the three of them were bionics, it seemed like they blew everything up in their wake. She didn't know why they had suddenly become so popular other than that they were different than everyone else.

The four Davenports walked into the cafeteria together, and Imogen, against her better judgment, decided to follow Adam back into the cafeteria. She gasped in surprise at the amount of damage they had caused in there. A few of the walls were black with ash, and most of the Christmas decorations were smoking on the ground. Her own station had been destroyed after her and Adam had left it.

"You ruined the toy drive," Tasha said, shaking her head.

"I feel bad for the kids," Imogen said. Each Davenport seemed surprised that she was still there with them, though Adam smiled at her. "They have no gifts. I know they were so excited to be here today, especially because they were promised they could play with your action figures. They look up to you three, though I don't exactly know why."

Chase snorted to himself as if Imogen were speaking lies about him and his siblings. However, Bree nodded like she understood what Imogen was saying. "I just wish there was some way that we could make it up to them," she said sadly.

"Maybe we can," Chase said, a light filling his eyes.

"I should probably get going," Imogen said, though it seemed like no one was really listening to her. They were already chatting together about how they can fix what they had destroyed.

She turned on her heel and started to walk away from them when someone grabbed her by the elbow. When she turned around, she found Adam waiting behind her. "I'm sorry if it was the wrong time to hit on you," he said to her. "I just thought you were so pretty, and I needed to tell you before you ran away from me."

"Did Bree put you up to this?" Imogen asked him.

"Maybe."

She smiled at Adam, and he hesitantly smiled back to her. "It's okay," she told him with a shrug. "I'm not hurt, though all the toys that I had collected are."

"I'll make it up to the kids, I promise."

"That's all that I want."

"Will I see you around?" Adam asked as she walked away from him.

"Maybe you will."
