Erika Rothchild/Maroni

Fandom: Gotham

Erika was adopted by David and Anna Rothchild when she was 10-years-old. The wealthy couple were great advocates for helping the orphans and street kids of Gotham. They adopted 5 more kids off the street - Olivia, Camden, Laura, Alex, and Remi - and started an orphanage at the edge of the city.

As close friends of the Wayne family, the Rothchilds spent a lot of time at Wayne Manor. Erika and Bruce were inseparable.

Erika's adoptive mother died three years later and Thomas and Martha Wayne, along with Bruce, prove to be a great comfort to her and her adoptive dad.

When Bruce's parents are shot almost two years later, Erika spends most of her time at Wayne Manor, trying to comfort Bruce.

Her dad steps back from his role in Wayne Enterprises, taking time to mourn the loss of his best friends.

Erika helps Bruce investigate his parents' murder. She doesn't much like James Gordon when she first meets him, warning him to stay out of her way as she searches for answers.

As she gets deeper into the investigation, she gets wrapped up in business with the mob. When the mob war starts. She tracks down Falcone in the hospital. She escapes with him, Penguin, and Gordon, but gets captured by Fish Moony.

Maroni shows up and makes a deal with Fish. Moony negotiates the terms with a gun pointed to Erika's head, noting that Maroni seems to care what happens to her. She gets Maroni to reveal that Erika is his daughter. Her birth mother ran one of his drug houses.

After Maroni leaves her alone to raise Erika, she ODs on the drugs they keep in the storehouse and Erika gets roped into being a drug runner at the age of 6.

Erika attends the gala for the children's hospital with Bruce and Alfred. The Maniax attack, threatening Alfred's life to get to Bruce. She jumps in the way of the shooter to protect Alfred, upstaging Galavan's hero act by willingly sacrificing herself for a mere butler.

Furious, Galavan orders Penguin to dig up dirt on the Rothchild family to lessen her favor among the people.

Penguin reveals Erika's identity as Maroni's daughter, which raises questions among the people. Is she some kind of spy for the mob? Did her adoptive father know? Can the Rothchilds be trusted?

As the press hammer her dad for answers, she decides to hold a press conference to explain everything, telling the reporters that she didn't know Maroni was her father until a few months ago and that she views David Rothchild as her real dad. She assures the people that her dad is trustworthy and only has the people's best interests at heart. This re-sparks the people's favor for the Rothchild family.

Erika notices how much time Bruce is spending with Galavan's niece and tries to warn him about her.

When Bruce is taken, she goes with Alfred, Celina, and Gordon to rescue him.

Fox fixes the computer in the cave and Erika makes Bruce let her help them investigate. They uncover Pinewood and track down Karen Jennings. In the chaos, Victor Fries shows up and attacks them as they try to get her out of the city. She sacrifices herself to save Bruce.

Shortly after that, Theo Galavan reappears in the guise of Azrael and tries to kill Gordon.

When Gordon is attacked in the warehouse the first time, Erika is there with Bruce and Alfred. She sees Azrael coming at him from behind and jumps in the way. Azrael stabs her through the abdomen and disappears. She dies in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Her dad has her sent to be cremated and she ends up at Arkham, where Hugo Strange uses her in his experiments with bringing the dead back to life.

She wakes up completely feral, no memory, no humanity, just animal instinct. Her senses are heightened and she attacks anything that moves. Strange sends in over a dozen men to try and contain her, but she slaughters them all, smashing the lights and ripping one of their throats out with her teeth.

They manage to get her into another cage to be transported out of Indian Hill when it's about to explode.

Fish Moony keeps her locked up in her hideout, using her as a threat to those who defy her.

Gordon and Bullock track down Moony and find Erika's cage. Curious, they open it and she tackles Gordon. She's so thrilled by freedom that she escapes without attacking, but not before revealing her identity to Gordon and Bullock.

She proceeds to go on a rampage, killing whoever has the misfortune of crossing paths with her. The press take to calling her The Beast.

Gordon and Bullock manage to capture her before anyone discovers the truth. They lock her in one of the interrogation rooms at the GCPD and have Bruce come in to try and jog her memory the way Tabitha made Galavan remember.

At first, Bruce just talks over the intercom, but, when she finally speaks and says his name, he insists on going in.

He comes everyday for the next few weeks, trying to make her remember. He tells her stories, brings pictures and things from her house, and even gets Alfred to make her favorite food for him to bring.

As she remembers more and talks more, Erika asks to see David Rothchild. Captain Barnes calls the billionaire down to the precinct and they explain everything before letting him talk to his resurrected daughter face-to-face.

Erika starts to remember the people she's lost and has a panic attack. Her dad manages to calm her down and she pleads for him to take her home. He manages to convince Captain Barnes to let him take her and she finishes her recovery at home.

When Jerome comes back from the dead and turns out the lights, she's watching the broadcast and remembers what happened the last time she saw Jerome. She sneaks out and goes off to find Bruce.

She spots Jerome leaving Wayne Manor with Bruce and follows them to the circus. She gets swept up in the chaos and can't catch up with them until Gordon and Bullock arrive with the GCPD. In the attack, she regresses a bit as she defends herself and tries to reach Bruce.

She finds out about Gordon's involvement with the Court of Owls after Alfred discovers Bruce is a clone, and confronts him at the GCPD, revealing the truth about her mother's death. Her aunt was involved with the Court, but realized the truth too late. She contacted her brother, David, and told him everything before Talon orchestrated her death. From that day on, David told Erika and her siblings stories about the Court as a warning, making up a rhyme so they wouldn't forget:
Beware the Court of Owls,
That watches all the time,
Ruling Gotham from a shadowed perch,
Behind granite and lime.
They watch you at your hearth.
They watch you in your bed.
Speak not a whispered word of them
or they'll send the Talon for your head.
The court got wind of this and sent the Talon after him. The assassin arrived while David and Anna were talking to Erika. He revealed himself and David told Erika to leave the room. Instead she found a place to hide where she could still see. She watched the Talon kill her mom and threaten her and her siblings if David spoke of the Court again. Because of this she was forced to lie to the press, to the Wayne's, to her siblings so that the Court wouldn't come after them again.

She runs into Bruce when he returns to Gotham and tries to talk to him, but he attacks her when she asks about the man he's with. She meets up with Alfred and helps him get Bruce.

With the Tetch Virus unleashed, Bruce manages to escape police custody and sneak off to find the Demon's Head. She follows Alfred, who's following Bruce, but gets assaulted from behind and kidnapped.

She wakes up in one of Ra's' bases where he forces her to fight and train for months.

Finally, he assigns her a mission, threatening to kill Bruce and her family if she doesn't obey. With no other choice, she agrees and Ra's binds her and throws her in the river to be found by the police.

She lies to everyone about what really happened, afraid of what will happen if Ra's finds out she told them.

As time goes by and her deadline creeps closer, she can't take it anymore. She opens her third-story window and tries to jump.

Bruce stops her, trying to get her to explain. When she won't, he reminds her that she's not alone.

The time comes and Erika is forced to betray Bruce, which, in turn, sends him after Ra's at Blackgate where he kills him.

She tries to reach out to him and explain everything, but he refuses to see her. She goes to a fundraiser at Wayne Manor and finally gets to talk to him. He lashes out and tells her next time she tries to jump out a window, he won't stop her.

After giving him some time to deal with his emotions, she tracks down Alfred and finds out that things have only gotten worse. She follows Bruce to the Siren club and tries to talk some sense into him, but he's too drunk. He tries to kiss her and she slaps him across the face and walks out. He catches up to her before she leaves the club and she tells him off, threatening to punch him.
"I tried talking, but you're too thick and too drunk to listen. I don't want to do this, but if I have to, I'll beat you to a pulp and leave you drunk and half-conscious in an alley until you figure it out.
"I miss you, Bruce.
"Let me know when you're ready to talk, because, unlike those spoiled brats in there, I'll be here when you need me, like I've always been.
"Goodnight, Mr. Wayne."

She sees him again at the Wayne Foundation party. He tries to reach out, but she cuts him off.
"I'm here to represent the Rothchild family because my father is currently overseeing the affairs of your company.
"Good evening, Mr. Wayne."

Jerome Valeska escapes Arkham with 82 other lunatics. In the chaos, Erika senses the beacon of the Demon's Head. She investigates and watches as Barbara Keen takes over the League of Shadows.

She hangs out with Bruce and Alfred on Bruce's birthday and gets roped into the Valeska hostage situation.

She stows away when Bruce and Celina go to meet Tabitha. The leaguers recognize her, calling her a traitor, and threaten her life to make Bruce bring Ra's back.

Ra's steals the Demon's Head back from Barbara and escapes with a majority of the League.

Jeremiah Valeska cracks and plants bombs around Gotham, planning to destroy the city so he can rebuild it.

The GCPD manage to stop the bombs, but Jeremiah teams up with Ra's; and they blow the bridges connecting Gotham City to the mainland.

Almost everyone evacuates, but Gordon, Bruce and the gangs stay behind. The GCPD set up a green zone around the police station. Penguin takes city hall. Barbara Keen claims the blocks around her club. Erika gets kidnapped by Maroni loyalists, who want her to take Salazar's place. She plays along to escape, but sees the kids living in the streets, struggling to survive the lunatics that run the area. She goes behind the gangsters' back and uses their muscle to set up a safe place for the kids. She offers to be the gangs leader with the mission of protecting the kids, but the gangsters refuse and get chased off by the lunatics. She establishes a base in the territory between the GCPD and the river. They keep quiet about their affairs, leaving the other territories to guess what their motives are, how well they're supplied, etc.

Because of this, Penguin, out of fear, spreads rumors about Erika and her people, calling them the Maroni Gang.

Erika reaches out to Gordon, going to Haven to make an alliance. When she arrives, she finds that Penguin has led a raid against the sanctuary with the other gangs.

She helps Gordon and Penguin run them off, but Jim is wary of trusting her.

When the building explodes, she hears screaming from inside. She rushes into the flames to save the survivors and gets out with 12 people and a young girl.

The mother of the girl thanks her, calling her Miss Maroni, but Erika corrects her for the whole crowd to hear. Gordon tries to catch her before she leaves, but she keeps walking.
"Now do you believe I haven't turned into a gangster?"

Gordon and Bullock go to her territory, which turns out to be a partially-collapsed apartment building full of street kids and police/army kids.

Erika explains what happened and they form an alliance. Gordon tries, unsuccessfully to use the kids in her compound as a reason for reunification, but the gov't refuses because they're "just street rats."

Jeremiah Valeska re-emerges and kidnaps Alfred and Erika to reenact the night Bruce's parents died. Bruce manages to save them, but, in the process, toxic chemicals spill into the river, sabotaging reunification.

With their water supply too contaminated to drink, Erika brings her people to the green zone.

A few months after Gordon and Lee's wedding, General Wade comes to Gotham to assess the possibility of reunification.

Upon his arrival, he, Gordon, Bruce, and Erika are kidnapped by Gordon's genetically modified army friend.

Nyssa Al Ghul uses Gordon to hurt Bruce and punishes Erika for her betrayal of the League.

They manage to escape, but General Wade was chipped by Hugo Strange and orders the destruction of Gotham City.

They fight off Bane and the army, retaking Gotham City, but Nyssa Al Ghul escapes.

Bruce leaves Gotham, feeling guilty for what happened with Nyssa and Bane.

Ten years later, Erika has taken over her dad's job at Wayne enterprises and become the public face of the company. With Bruce's return, Wayne Enterprises throws a gala to celebrate the construction of Wayne Tower. Bruce doesn't show, but Erika, Harvey, Gordon, Alfred, Celina, and Lee have to deal with a bomb threat.

A mysterious man interferes with the case of Nygma's escape. Erika realizes it's Bruce and confronts him at the new Wayne Manor.

She uses her influence at Wayne Enterprise and her friendship with Gordon to help him as he pursues vigilantism.
