"So you...". A deep dread seized me, compelling me to retreat as if the shadows of the cemetery had drawn me away.
My instinct made me distance myself from him.
The cold wind bited the fragile vessels of my consciousness, making my deep feeling of confusion even worse.
His hand reached out for mine to keep me from going too far. The whispers of his orphan skin sang a symphony of tenderness. A brief burst of warmth shivered through the delicacy of my spooky spirit.
"You know that I can't denounce you. I can'tdo it, and I won't."His voice slipped over my quivering ears.
"Machigai," he said, holding my hand more firmly in his. "Your father never wanted to break the enchantment of his existence, Eirian willingly painted the end of your hero's last dance."
I could hardly answer. My mouth was barely closed, so I did wear a mask of uncomprehension.
He replied to my silent question. "The dude with the grey eyes... The guy with your mom."
He could easily discern the silent chaos that waved within like a violent storm within me.
"So to summarise all that plot twists that popped unexpectedly on my fucking day; I'm standing in front of my dad's grave talking to a handsome... I mean a police officer that knew the truth behind my sorrowful eyes for years. And yet he didn't arrest me, thought I did kill my mom with no slight reason. Okay...okaaay , I can process this. I can handle it."
I took a brief break to release the air that blocked my chest. "So this Eirian is in jail ?"
"Not yet. After I was sure an orphan killed the second victim, I decided to end the case and try to find you. You fortunately came to me and proved your valor . We are both born to be together."
A feeling of discomfort came over me, and I felt a gentle warmth caressing my cheeks. I did quickly hide my embarrassment by saying a stupid thing. "I know."
He released my hand and spelt out a sentence without a hint of smirk. "Don't let your heart wander too far, kid. We're at least 20 years apart, and the only reason I need you is for an act of revenge. Meet me tomorrow at the old candy factory. It's places that have lost their sweetness that need a lump of sugar."
