Through the car window, the sun seemed to move slowly across the sky, matching the rhythm of our journey. Sometimes hidden by passing trees, it would suddenly reappear, bright and bold, as if to remind us of its presence.
The sun's rays danced across the dashboard, shifting from a warm golden hue to a blinding white as we drove along the winding roads. Every curve seemed to change the light, making it brighter or softer depending on the angle. I took a deep breath through the wide-open window of this car.
A soft, melodious voice wafted through the air. It was my adoptive mother's voice, an elegant woman with a simple, bohemian style-a tender woman with fiery words, warm hands, and a welcoming smile. The driver, her husband, seemed more reserved but had a good heart. He didn't say much during the ride but kept glancing at me through the rearview mirror.
Taylor was in juvenile detention, Jasmine was in a psychiatric hospital, the volunteers were in serious trouble with the government, and most importantly, my Kyou was resting underground.
I'm finally safe. What matters to me is that I have the bare minimum to survive. I don't need a big family, just good, welcoming people who can give me a little love. A little love is enough for me. I needed it back then to stand on my own two feet. Although this love can not replace that of my deceased hero, my pulpit, my father.
The car stopped silently in front of a villa. To my eyes, this palace was an inn that welcomed me, an inanimate place that seemed to invite me to enter, to take a seat and rest my mind in the heart of these varied rooms, trying to empty it of the sinister thoughts that haunt it. My steps seemed to quicken with enthusiasm. I wanted to taste the joy to see what others were constantly experiencing.
The smell of this immense castle caressed my nostrils. My eyes seemed to appreciate the beauty of my new home.
My two new parents showed me each room in detail. Even to the point of showing me my room. A well-appointed room, pink and feminine. It was a dainty room that I appreciated even though I didn't admire the style.
It seemed to have been made with love. So gently. As I was shown to my room, a broad smile spread across the innkeeper's face. This couple made my heart skip a beat; money never blinded them, their eyes always wide open to kindness and charity.
Time passed, and my life changed. Now enrolled in a real school, I made an effort not to waste my life, focusing on my studies while also working as a babysitter. I didn't lack anything; my new guardian angels provided me with all the comfort I needed. However, I continued to work hard like I was doing yesteryear to support my real parents in their material charges, a habit that has become unlikely to change.
Taking care of spoiled children in the autumn can be hellinsh. While the golden leaves swirl outside and create a colorful carpet on the ground, the often demanding and temperamental children are constantly making the most impossible demands. They can be hard to please, always clamoring for more snacks and manipulating me into giving them money: "If you don't give me the money Mommy gave you, I'm going to tell her you spanked me!"
Impossible to play outside in the leafy yard, these little devils prefer to stay indoors to play fighting video games and watch romance movies, which I often have to watch with them to close their eyes during the kissing scene.
How can i enjoy my favourite season, juggling the desire to enjoy the fresh air with the aroma of cold rain and the peace and quiet of the season with the need to take care of these little tyrants?
My most frequent clients are this wealthy CEO couple who ask me to take care of their youngest daughter.
"Caaaaaaaaaandieeeees," she usually screams.
This child has always managed to get on my nerves.
"Maaama told me that children without parents aren't human and that they're just life's mistakes."
Mistake, always, that word was always chasing me.
"Mooommy always tells me when she's drunk that my big sexy brother isn't even human cause they just adopted him to run daddy's business ," She says, playing with her toys on the living room ground.
Her big brother makes an appearance in the living room.
"Moooommy and Daaaaddy don't even care about you freaking incinifiant girl. They will throw you on an orphanage anyway."
He says, copying the way she talks.
I started laughing before noticing her eyes hold back tears.
Her mother suddenly appears from the
front door pulling a man from his necktie.
The girl released her tears, running to her mom's direction.
Her mother shoved her out of the way.
"I'm busy, darling, with business and work," she said, looking passionately at the man she was dragging. "Machigai, take care of the clingy glue."She says, despairing down the stairs.
The child stopped crying, her face expressing a new emotion. She began to sulk.
Her brother started to smile.
"Mommy has to do everything I want!"
Their father also entered by the door, holding a woman's hand.
They went up the stairs without saying a word. I tried to change the subject to calm the spoiled beast.
"Want to watch a movie soo-jin?" I said, turning on the TV.
Soo-jin sat down on the sofa and smiled as she called out the name of her favourite Disney princess.
"Machigai?" His brother said, opening a can of soda.
I gave him a dark look.
"Calm down, girl, I just find your name original."
He threw the can to the ground.
"Pick it up for me."He said, smiling.
