Chapter twelve
"Another house?" I gasped trying to let it sink in, "Joey I'm tired of looking."
"Jack, if you don't go and just see you'd never know, this is the last house we will go to I promise there is no other places to look if this isn't your family, we are gonna have to think of something else, maybe you could live with my family."
"Sorry Joey, no thanks I'd rather be with my real family." I said as I jumped out of the car.
This time a tall women with short curly black hair opened the door. Before I could open my mouth she grabbed me into a hug. At first I didn't even realize what was going on, then it hit me, this was my Mom.
"Oh your back Jacklyn your back!" She yelled as she pulled me in the house.
"Wait I have to get Joey!" I said as I looked back at the car.
"Jacklyn's back everyone!" she called.
My head quickly swung around. "Jacklyn!? Who's Jacklyn!?"
"Oh sweet heart that's you real name."
I walked into a room with two kids standing in front of me. One a girl about 15 with long black hair like mine, but wavy not curly. And a boy most likely 12 or 13 with black hair, guess it runs in the family.
"Wait!" I cried out again, "I have to get Joey." I said looking back.
"He's right here." A voice called out. I whipped around and saw Joey in the door way.
"Joey? Where'd you come from?"
"I walked around back and got in through that door." He said as he pointed his finger at the back door.
"How'd you know it was there?" I asked but I had a good idea about the answer.
"This is my house."
"So you're my brother?" Again I knew the answer but I had to ask.
"Yes!" He yelled as he gave me a hug.
"Wait how did you not pick up on me being your sister earlier?"
"Well that's along story. Truth be told when you got lost I was 9, after a year I tried to forget I had another sister, it worked for awhile but when I learned you were in the woods, I started wondering if it was really you. I realized you were so far away from home it couldn't have been you so I tried to forget again. When you got hurt I was determined to help you weather it was you or not so i wanted to bring you home, then we started to fight. That's why I wanted you to forgive me so bad because if it was you I needed you. Of course I decided the best thing for you was the orphanage so I sent you there. I soon realized that was a mistake when I heard you had escaped still not sure if it was you or not I wanted to at least try. When you told me about the locket, I realized it had to be you but instead of freaking you out, I took you too house after house asking if they recognized you."
"Wow. You sure do care." I said smiling.
"Oh let me introduce you to your siblings." He said smiling, "This is Jessie she's 15, and this is Jason he's 13."
"Nice to see you again, Jackie!" Jessie said flinging herself towards me and grasping me into a hug. Quickly after, Jason repeated this act.
"How did I get lost?"
"Oh....... you see our house was burning down, it was dark and we all ran out. No one could see anything nor anyone, In the morning no one could find you. We searched and searched but never found you." Explained Jessie.
"The locket, who was that a picture of?"
For a moment everyone just exchanged glances and were silent.
"The locket held a picture of Dad...He...He died a year before the house caught fire." Said Jason.
"Oh....." I looked down at my feet. "Do you think..."
"Do we think what?" They all exclaimed.
"Do you think I will ever remember my past?" Again every one fell silent.
"I...I don't know Jack," said Joey getting down on one knee so he could look me in the eye,"But we love you anyway and your safe now."
"Yeah, safe." I whispered and let it sink in.
