♥I do♥
"Is that the wedding bells?" My mom asked with her eyes sparkling in excitement. It would have been a misunderstanding to say that my mom was happy to see me get married to Nara. She had admired the girl ever since she was like five. Her being wealthy was just an addition to, as she supposed, flawless life. "Mom, what bells?" I rolled my eyes fixing the tie. "We're in a beach, there's no bells here." I stated struggling with a suit.
"Ahh my little boy, it's just a metaphor." She sighed and came up to me blocking the only mirror in the tent. "You never grow up, I can't believe you're getting married." She wiped off a single tear. "Not like I'm not happy." Mom then laughed and reached her hands for my tie. "Let me help you." And I let her. "I wish your father could see you like that." She said proudly after taking few steps back so she could take a look at me.
"Won't he?" I raised my eyebrow surprised. She clicked her tongue and smiled. "I'm pretty sure he will be too drunk to see his own hands by the time priest asks for the rings." She joked and just like on cue my dad walked in a tent with a big bright smile on his face. And whiskey glass in his hand. "My son!" He hugged me and I gave a look to my mom.
"Would you have a glass of drink with your father before your wedding?" He asked me and with a corner of my eye I saw mom grab onto her heart. "Don't drug your son!" She tried to slap the glass away from my father's hand, but I stopped her and grinned to dad. "Yes, I'd like to." I said and took the whiskey finishing it up right away. My mom seemed petrified and as if she was about to faint, but dad was calm.
"Can I have a word with you son?" And he pulled me to the side immediately filling up another glass. He saw that I need it. "Can you be honest with me?" He rose the glass to his lips and drank. I nodded. "What happened?" I could have pretended that I have no idea what was he talking about, but I knew exactly what he meant. Still, after couple of minutes of not replying, dad felt an urge to explain.
"I'm sure Nara is a nice girl and well... good choice." Money, he was talking about money. "But you won't hide from your old man the true feelings inside you." He then warned me. "I saw how you have looked at Yooyoung for all these years. I couldn't possibly forget that stare. Because I recognized it. It was pure love my son. So I ask you, and forgive me for being curious, but what happened?"
And I told him. Everything, from the start to the end, I told him about the illness, about surgery, lack of money, promise and even the contract, I didn't care if Nara would get mad at me for telling someone, but I wasn't going to not marry her anyways, so I didn't see a reason for her to flip out at me. I told him about Yooyoung's reaction and how I made my decision. At the end I understood that it was probably exactly what I needed all thait time: to talk it out. To tell somebody. Somebody who would listen.
After I was done, my father stared at me for a bit longer. He was completely silent and I could see from his tensed up jaw muscles how he held his teeth bit together. He then poored me another glass, patted me on the back and went out the tent leaving me alone.
I sighed looking at my reflection in the drink. It was clearer than in the mirror before, just because I got rid of a big guilt's rock pressuring me. I then smiled at the relfection and poured the drink on the sand that I was standing on. There was only one thing left to do. And I sure as hell didn't want to be drunk while it happens.
The setting sun blinded me for a second and I was about to raise my hand and put a palm over my forhead to prevent eyes from shining light, but then the music started playing and I, as everyone around me as well, turned to the start of the carpet.
Nara indeed looked like a goddess, she almost floated being led by her dad, all the way to me and the priest and me, as if her feet didn't touch the ground. I gulped taking her hand from her dad's warm palm and smiled to mister Hueng. He gave me a pat on the back and went to his wife. Both of out families sat together, smiling at us brightly and happily. My mom even had a napkin out and was brushing off her tears.
But my father watched me with an understanding. He was the only one to see more than the cover and pretty outside. But it was enough. One stare that saw more than lies and it was enough for me, to encourage me to carry on.
The priest cought dragging everyone's attention to us, even though everyone was looking already, but the beach silenced giving us some privacy. Even waves seemed to keep quiet just for the ceremony.
"Do you Hueng Nara, take Kim Taehyung and to be your beloved husband in wealth and poverty, until death parts you?" The preist questioned and Nara nodded unable to answer through her happiness, but then she got ahold of herself as I pressed hed hand encouraging to speak. "I do." She said and I smiled.
"Do you Kim Taehyung take Hueng Nara to be your beloved wife in wealth and poverty, until death parts you?" Priest then turned to me and my throat suddenly dryed out. I thought the world will go black, but then I felt Nara returning the favor as she pressed my hand harder.
"I do." I said and out of the sudden my heart eased as soon as I spoke those words. "You can now kiss the bride."
