[1] Empress of Shadow
🚨WARNING!! This story will go in details regarding themes such as noncon, murder, gaslighting, child abuse, and gore. I am not sexualizing any of this (just so we are perfectly clear). If you go beyond this point, you agree to be exposed to these darker themes. Thank you and good luck reading.🚨
Also...welcome back! I'm recently getting back to the Black Clover fandom after a haitus of sorts. Hope you enjoy yet another Nozel story since I simp so hard for his lame-braid self (and you clearly also simp otherwise you wouldn't be here)
Reader POV (age 28)
It was a silent night when I heard the noise of thunder and rain.
My brother Nacht entered our small camp, annoyance in his blue eyes.
"Those damn Spade idiots are hurting their own people. Again."
"Yeah..." I stared down at the small necklace in my hands that held his ashes.
Nacht frowned. "You aren't thinking of him again, are you?"
I said nothing and he only got more annoyed.
"Stop it. You know it's just classic Nozel and the rest of those nobles." Nacht held out his hand for me to take. "Now come on, we're spies for a reason."
"You're right." I tucked the locket back into my shirt, buttoning up my cloak.
He and I fled out to the storm, traveling through the shadows with the notion of life in the back of our minds.
We were from the Clover Kingdom and siblings of the commoner family of House Faust, assigned by Wizard King Julius Novochrono to spy on the Spade kingdom.
Rain pelted us as we slipped through the shadows, our eyes glowing with power and determination to complete our goal.
Nacht noticed how I was still tense and he grabbed my hand, silently offering his condolences as today was his deathdate.
"Don't worry," he said. "Your son is watching you with pride right now."
I didn't speak nor nod my head.
My son would've been six today.
If it hadn't been for what his father Nozel Silva did to me.
And that secret is what changed me completely and that was the day I swore never to step in the Clover Kingdom ever again.
13 years before present...(age 15)
I watched Nacht training with Yami Sukehiro and the captain of the Gray Deer squad, Julius Novachrono.
"Ne, Nacht?" I ran up to him, holding my grimoire.
He was already 16, already accepted into the magic knights despite being from the commoner family House Faust.
"What is it, (y/n)?" He didn't take his eyes off Yami for a second.
"I was wondering something," I said. "Do you think I should try getting into the Magic Knights?"
"Sure," he said. "But don't expect me to train you or anything."
But he and I both knew he'd do it anyway.
"Ugh, curse Reilo for leaving me to deal with you,"
Nacht grumbled with deep dissatisfaction. "You'd think our older brother would leave us with some way to keep the house, but no. We have to live with the captain. How pathetic."
I grew silent and looked down at my black and silver grimoire that had a four-leaf clover. "I'm sorry he did that."
"Why are you apologizing? That's his issue, not ours." Nacht shook his head and decided to end the match with Yami so he and I could shit-talk Reilo.
He escorted me up to our living quarters in the base, grumbling how he hates the magic knights and captains.
However he respected our captain as he treated us like normal human beings instead of the other squad captains who were just plain rude since we didn't come from nobility.
"We're supposed to go to the funeral anniversary for the former captain of the Silver Eagles," he said. "Why people still mourn is beyond me. She's dead and she's not coming back. Though I can understand their pain since she really wasn't a bad person despite being royalty."
Acier Silva was the former captain of the Silver Eagles and someone I knew personally as she treated me like her own whenever I would be forced to go to her house for lessons.
I just wasn't fond of any of her kids except Solid since he followed me around like a duckling.
Why he did so was questionable, but he was adorable so I let it slide.
Nacht and I got dressed nicely, both happy to wear black clothing to the anniversary of Lady Acier's funeral.
"Oh god, what do you think that brat will say?" Nacht snickered, always remembering to get on Lady Nebra's last nerve.
"I don't know, probably a good old 'piss off'," I teased.
Our smiles disappeared quickly when we saw the Silva siblings together except Noelle who was sleeping in a carriage.
I peered into it and saw the baby snuggling a torn-up doll that once belonged to Solid before he decided he didn't want it anymore.
"(n/n)!!!!!" Said boy ran towards me, his arms open wide.
Why he always called me that nickname was annoying, but if it was him? I didn't mind.
I picked him up and he showed me a sloppy drawing of Nozel that looked so hilarious and captured his shitty personality quite so.
"What's this?"
"It's Nozel! Do you think he'll like it?"
I eyed the maliciously drawn purple eyes that had evil glints to it and weird scribbles on his face. "I think he'll love it."
Nebra walked up to me and despite me being older, she snatched her little brother from my arms. "What do you think you're doing with Solid, commoner? Don't touch him."
Solid glared at his sister, unhappy he was taken from my arms. "Nebra! You're so mean!"
"Shut it, Solid. You should be ashamed of yourself for letting some commoner who isn't our servant hold you."
I ignored her and handed the drawing back to Solid who crumpled it up to give his older brother later.
Nacht only glared at the girl. "Ah, I see the hideous Nebra strikes again. Piss off or else."
Nebra glared at my brother before storming off to complain to Nozel who'd yell at us.
But neither Nacht or I cared.
We felt an annoyed aura and saw it was Nozel himself.
He glared daggers at me and I smiled at him
sweetly while flipping him off.
"Why my mother insisted on teaching you both the basics of education is beyond me," he snapped. "Pull yourselves together or leave."
I was about to leave when Nacht grabbed my collar.
"Don't," he said to me. "Let's stay and face the enemy head-on."
Nozel glared at my brother, their auras deadly but a smirk on Nacht's face. "You really think we're your enemies? We're from the same kingdom."
"Yet divided," Nacht said. "People like you and Nebra disgust me. Let's go, (y/n). We'll pay our respects then leave this shithole people call a castle."
Nozel's eyes met mine briefly before I closed my eyes and followed my brother, reopening them once I turned around.
I felt Nozel frowning at me, but I didn't care.
Royals and nobles like him made me want to barf.
But people like Julius Novochrono, William Vangeance, Yami Sukehiro, and Acier Silva gave me the slightest bit of hope.
I knew that as a commoner, I would face lots of prejudice in the magic knights like my dear friend Zada Ideale, so I was hesitant to join.
A month later, Nacht found me packing my things.
"Where the hell are you going?" He asked me. "The magic knights exam is in half an hour! You should already be there."
"And deal with those arrogant nobles? Hell no. Julius offered me a job at the library, so I took it."
"Well, I can't stop you, then."
"No, you can't." I carefully placed the photo of my family I kept on my nightstand in my bag. "Mind if I take this?"
"By all means. Never cared for that sentimental crap anyway."
I nade my way to the library, riding on a broomstick only to see a familiar silver eagle in the sky that carried Nozel on its back.
He passed me on the way, purposely knocking me off the broom. "Watch where you're going, commoner!"
I flipped him off and managed to get back on my broomstick, zooming to the library that was near the Silver Eagles base, unfortunately for me.
I got situated in my new room above the library, making the astronomy tower my living quarters in the loft above the telescope area.
I got settled and the old librarian who was to retire later in the week gave me a run-down on what was to happen and the visiting hours.
"If anyone wants to see the books in the cellar, they have to have proper documentation with a special seal," he explained and held up a key, giving it to me. "And you cannot lose this key."
I put the necklace with the key around my neck, nodding. "Yes, sir!"
He nodded with satisfaction. "Now, go finish unpacking. The shadow spirits would like to meet you. It's best to make friends with them right now since they really are a big help."
