Chapter 1: Part 7 (final for Chapter 1)

Turning up to my room, I closed the door. Sighing I flopped, not very elegantly I might add, on to my bed. Sprawling my arms and legs out like a starfish, I groaned in frustration. Listening to the silence of the little chamber, I could hear footsteps go up to Merlin's room. Hearing some muffled conversation between Gaius and Merlin, I turned my ear into my bed. I don't care. I don't care if I'm being foolish, I don't care. My thoughts in my head blurred out all conveniences in the world. My thoughts were sometimes my friend when it comes to these dark times. Gaius didn't mean it. My head told me, He's just trying to help. Scoffing at myself, I slowly sat up. Getting off my bed, I went to the open space where I could see all of Camelot. I breathed through my nose, out my mouth and immediatley calmed down. I was being foolish. I really need to apologize to Gaius....Nah. I giggled quietly at myself for being so contradictory in my head. Whatever. I then heard footstep reach my door and knock.

"Come in." I said with a monotone voice.

Opening the door and turned to see that it wasn't Gaius but Merlin. Smiling a light smile, I ushered him to come in. Merlin's light step came into my room, and the since of atmosphere seemed to change. It was like a nice peaceful atmosphere, which I noticed while around Merlin, was most common.

"What brings you here Merlin?" I asked with a quiet voice.

"Well, I was wondering if you were okay. I mean, you and Gaius were yelling pretty loud earlier." Merlin said his voice filled with concern.

"Yeah I'm fine, I think we'll be over it soon." I said to him looking down at the ground.

"That's good." Merlin said, "so I've noticed you do magic as well as I."

"Yeah. I've been able to move objects since I was young child."

"Really?"

"Yeah." I said to Merlin quite obviously, "watch."

I pointed to a book, and my eyes flashed gold. The book started to lift, and float over to me. I put it into my hands. He clapped, and I bowed at him.

"Thank you, thank you." I said as I put the book back on the table.

"Are you sure you're going to be okay Maddy?" Merlin's voice filled with concern again.

"Yes Merlin, now go get some sleep. We probably have a long day ahead." I said as I turned to him and gave a soft smile.

"Okay, see you tomorrow then."

And with that, Merlin closed my door and left.

***

Later that night, an ancient voice started to call out to me. It's sound rang through my head, irritating it in the process of me trying to desperatly to sleep. The voice kept calling, and I responded each time with a toss to the other side of my bed. After a while, the voice left and peace came to my thoughts. That was until some started to shake me. With a groan, I opened one of my eyes, and saw Merlin hovering over me.

"Sorry to wake you." He said with a whisper.

"I wasn't sleeping...well I can't but hey I tried." I said to him with an gentle whisper, "what brings you here?"

"Can you hear an ancient voice call to you?"

"Yeah, I tried to push it out my head. I thought I was going crazy." I replied to Merlin getting up and sitting on the edge of my bed.

"You're not, I can hear it too. I think it's calling for us Maddy."

I let out a groan, and put my face in my hands. What if it wants to kill us? I wanted to ask. What if it reveals our secret to the whole village, letting us either burn to death, or worse. Behedded. What if I lose you forever?  Those thought rang through my head, as I looked up at Merlin.

"Fine, let's go."

"Really?"

"I can't say I don't like the idea, but if I helps get his voice out of my head then sure." I replied with a smile.

We walked out my chambers (I slept in my normals clothes that night) and walked gently down the stairs. Looking around we slowly start to go past Gaius, that was until Merlin went into a broom. Stopping it from knocking it over, I picked it up and set it to the side. We slowly reached the door, and before we left, Merlin used magic to tuck Gaius in.

***

Well Merlin and I found out who the owner of the voice was. It was the Great Dragon Gaius talked about. His name was Kilgharrah, and he told you both about how great our destinies were. That our gifts were given for a reason, a purpose. That purpose was for the land of Albion, and that the two of us were supposed to help him be a great king. To that I scoffed. Merlin even looked with disbelief at what the great dragon had to say. It was ridiculious! Arthur becoming a great king, is like saying magic if going to be accepted in the lands of Camelot. It's never going to happen, but the dragon says it is. So appariently what ever he says, goes. The dragon only spoke in riddles after he told us this little information, before he flew off in a hurry. Sighing, we both thought that we needed to get back, before we had to face Gaius' wrath once more.

***

After not getting a single wink of sleep, I thought that it would be nice to get up early for once. Throwing on a different shirt and boots, I walked out of my room only to be ran into by Gaius.

"Oh Madeline! I was just about to wake you up."

I sent a gentle smile his way and he returned it before following me down the stairs. I grabbed a bowl of porridge, and sat down to eat. Lookin around, I saw no signs of Merlin.

"Lookin for Merlin?" Gaius asked my suddenly.

"Wha? Oh yea. Is he still sleeping?" I replied tiredly.

"Well I sent him off a while ago to give the King's Ward her medication." Gaius explained to me.

"Oh." I replied finishing up eating.

"By the way Maddy, tonight we have to go to the King's feast for having 20 years without magic. I suggest you don't go to far today."

"Okay."

"I need to go out, as well. I need more herbs."

"That's fine."

"Also, have you been taking your medication? You don't look like you're sleeping too well. Do you need a stronger remedy?"

I sighed and stood up to drop off my bowl. I looked over at Gaius and looked back to the sink and dropped off my bowl. What's with all these questions, I mean really!  Sitting back down to where I was, I rubbed my temples and gave out a sigh. Putting my hands down, I looked at Gaius again.

"Yes, I have been taking my medication, no I still haven't been sleeping well. I'm afraid Gaius, that I won't ever be able to sleep right, so I wouldn't advise a stronger remedy. Just save your herbs, and I can do what I can for sleep. I appriciate everything, but there's just nothing you can do."

"Okay, but if you need anything, I'm here." Gaius replied with concern laced in his voice.

'Yeah Gaius...I know. Thanks.' I thought as I saw him walk out the door, satchel in hand.

***

Later that evening, Merlin and I were standing around with Gaius at the King's 'aniversary'. It really bugged me that every time someone used magic, they were killed. If what I heard was correct, magic has been here through the depths of time. If a couple of people use if for bad, kill them! Don't blame the whole colony. Sighing under my breath, I saw a servant walk up to Merlin. She looked different from the other servants that I've seen. She was dark skinned, and had black curly hair. Her eyes were gentle, kind, and with every word she spoke it was well meant.

"Hello Merlin." The servant said.

"Oh hello Gwen."

"Is this your girlfriend?" The servent or Gwen said.

"Oh no." I said with a small blush, "We just met a couple days ago."

"Ah. My names Guinevere, but you can call me Gwen."

"Madeline, you can call me Maddy." I replied with a gentle smile.

"The ward looks lovley today, doesn't she?" Gwen said to both of us.

"Yeah." Merlin said awe-struck.

"Some people are just born to be queen."

"No!" Merlin replied shocked.

"I hope so. One day. Not that I would want to be her. I mean, who would want to marry Arthur?"

"Oh common Gwen, I thought you liked those rough-tough save the world kind of men." Merlin laughed

"Oh, is that so?" I said adding to the conversation.

"N-No." Gwen said with a blush, " I prefer more ordinary men, like Merlin here."

I raised my eyebrow at her and smirked. She blushed even more at my reaction, and hid her face in her hands.

"Common Gwen, Merlin," I said with a laugh, "the feast is about to begin."

The feast started out with Lady Helen starting to sing. It was a big weird, that she would choose a song in a different language, but I didn't judge her. Well not a first. The only reason why, was because people started to fall asleep around me. I looked at Helen, then at the people. It was kind of sad that the sleeping spell wasn't working on me, but that didn't matter now. I slowly got up, not wanting the attention from the demon, I snuck around the back unnoticed. I walked over to where Merlin was holding his ears. He looked at me in shock, and I just shrugged. I then turned to Helen, to see that she was advancing toward the King's table. Pointing at Helen, Merlin gave me a nod and I saw for a second his eyes flash gold. The hanging chandelier then came crashing down and crushed Helen right before our eyes. When the witch got crushed, everyone started to wake up. I turned to Merlin and gave him a smile. He smiled back at me, and I turned my head to see the lady from a couple days ago under the chandelier. She was really going to kill a son for a son...I thought sadly. What would've Uther done without Arthur...the prophecy of Albion would never be brought to life...wow. Arthur really is important...crap. I looked up from my thoughts to see the witch bring the knife back, about to kill Arthur again. Uther and Arthur were both talking and not paying attention. I looked at Merlin and he looked at me, and we both ran to help. I grabbed Uther, and Merlin grabbed Arthur, and in that amount of time the knife struck the chair. I let go of the King, and let out a sigh of relief.

"You two saved our lives. A debt must be repaid!" The King's voice resounded.

"Well, it's nothing." Merlin said.

"Yea, just happy to help." I said after him.

"Don't be so modest, You two shall be rewarded."

"No honestly, you don't have to your highness." Merlin replied.

"No absolutley. Both your merits are something special."

"Well." Merlin and I said together.

"You shall be rewarded a part of the royal household. The boy shall be Arthur's manslave, and the girl shall be his teacher of royal arts."

"Father!" Arthur's shouted, but it was drowned out by clapping.

Teacher....of Arthur?!? But....BUT.....ugh. At least he can't tell me what to do anymore. I'm his TEACHER now. HA! This is going to one heck of a ride...I thought looking at the ground, I looked at Merlin, who looked the same way at me. It was a look of uncertainty. We both have magic, and we both stepped foot into the worst possible situation. Working for the King's son. GRRRREAAAAT!

***

Later that night, Merlin and I were discussing what we thought about our new jobs. Merlin laughed at how I was going to teach him, and how I should make him at least smart enough to be king one day. I just laughed back, and told him that he shouldn't be laughing because he has the worst end of it all. Being a man-servant for Arthur. That moment I told him that, his eyes went wide when he remembered, and then groaned.

"Hey, think of the bright side. You might get Arthur to lighten up on you." I told him honestly.

"Hopefully. I mean, I have to spend my every moment with him now." Merlin groaned.

"Yeah, yeah." I laughed.

At that moment, Gaius knocked on Merlin's door and came in. He held something in his hands, and looked at us both.

"You two getting along?"

"Of course." Merlin said obviously.

"Seems like you two are heros." Gaius replied, ignoring Merlin's comment.

"Hard to believe it?" Merlin asked.

"Not for me. I knew I would save Arthur's life one day." I said confidently.

"Look it where that got you." Merlin said with a smirk.

"Oi!"

"Okay okay you two, calm down. No Merlin, I knew it from the moment I met you. You saved my life remember?"

"but, that was magic." Merlin said concerned.

"Yes, but it seems like we have a use for both of your talents."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"I saw how you saved the Uther and Arthur's life."

"Oh no." Merlin whispered

"Fantastic." I muttered under my breath.

"Perhaps that is its purpose."

"Our destiny." Merlin sighs.

"Indeed." Gaius paused for a moment, "this book was given to me when I was your guy's age. I think it will be more of use to you two, than to me."

Gaius handed Merlin the book, and then layed it down on the table. He gave me a look, and then unwrapped the cloth. The book was latched, so he grabbed the latch, and opened the book.

"This is a book of magic." I said in amazement.

"Yes, and this is why I need you two to keep it hidden."

"Great more secrets." I said out loud.

"Yes."

"I'll study every word." Merlin said with excitement.

"Remember to share, Merlin." Gaius said, amusement sparkling in his eyes.

"Yeah yeah, whatever." I said looking at him.

Suddenly there was a knock at the door.

"Merlin, Prince Arthur wants you to see you right away." A guard said.

"Looks like your destiny's calling. Better go see what he wants." I said with a soft voice and a wink.

Merlin glared amusingly at me, groaned and walked out the door. This is going to be one heck of a ride.
