Ch 1-Exoskeleton?
A/N: Okayyyy attempt #2. We'll see how this goes. Italics means English.
I walked into my new homeroom class—with a burst of confidence I never knew I held—expecting the surprised stares of some thirty student all frozen in the middle of doing some sort of weird action as if I interrupted some sort of ritual. As I adjusted to the strange surroundings, I couldn't help but notice that most of the students in the room looked vaguely familiar.
Nonetheless, I meekly waved saying "Hi" in English. Immediately, I was bombarded with questions:
"Where are you from?"
"What is your name?"
"Where did you get your hair done?"
"Are you sure you're not a guy?" I heard a guy, who also looked familiar, ask. "I mean, what kind of girl would have the same haircut as me?" he questioned with a smirk. I gave him a calm look and gestured to my clothes:
"As you can see—if you have a pair of functioning eyes, that is—this is the girls uniform. You know, skirt and blouse? If you didn't notice. The females attending this school have to wear this. And I have every right to cut my hair short. You try living with 60 centimeters of a rat's nest and then talk." I challenged. To that, he opened his mouth, and promptly closed it again.
With perfect timing, a jaded-looking middle-aged man walked in. I assumed he was the teacher, Mr. Jang, as he stated with a monotonous tone:
"Alright students get to your seats." As I stood awkwardly, not knowing what to do he turned his glassy gaze towards me. "Ah, yes, you're the new student. Please introduce yourself: tell us your name, where you're from, your age, and for the heck of it, your hobbies." He demanded in a way that screamed: "I could care less about any of these things."
I cleared my throat and stated in a straightforward and confident manner:
"Hello, my name is Nam Juna. I'm from San Francisco, California-"
I was interrupted by a line of "ooh"s and "her Korean is so good though!" to which Mr. Jang waved his hand to quiet down the students and gestured me to continue.
"Um, I'm seven-no wait, eighteen in Korea, and I like to do a lot of things but drawing, singing, and dancing are my top hobbies." I finished with a smile.
"Oh. Well, you'll fit right in, then." He stated with a forced smile which quickly dropped from his face, "Now, lets get you seated... Ah, Kihyun, can you raise your hand?" A pink-haired boy followed his orders, "You can sit in the empty desk next to him." I nodded and quickly headed over to my assigned seat.
From then on, he rattled out the daily announcements and let the students do whatever for the remainder of the period. I was prepared to sit awkwardly in silence until someone next to me tapped my shoulder. I turned to face the pink-haired boy, Kihyun, if I remembered correctly, expecting him to say something.
"Hi!' He said with a smile.
"Hello?" I said cautiously, unsure of what he wanted.
"I was just wondering why you haven't fainted yet." He stated.
"W-what?"
"You know, with all of these idols in the room..."
"I...dols? Like, celebrities?" I took a moment to process what he said and my eyes widened in realization, "OH! Y'all are the people Bree constantly obsessed over!" I yelled at everyone in the room. My sudden outburst seemed to startle the ones around me, but the rest didn't even bat an eyelash. "Wait. Why are there so many 'idols' at this school? I thought this was a regular high school..." I asked Kihyun in a much quieter tone, "And aren't you in a group, too? Was it... Monstar X? Y? Z?" He burst out into laughter:
"It's Monsta X. And to answer your first question: this school is technically supposed to be normal but our old the school, the School of Performing Arts, or SOPA, for short, was deemed unstable because of the foundation it was built on. In fact, a section collapsed just days after we were kicked out. This school just happened to be the closest and they're pretty lenient about us missing school and whatnot for performances and tours, so all of us flocked over here."
"Huh. Well, lucky me. I barely know anything about or anyone in the K-Pop scene... Oh gosh, Bree's gonna kill me..." I muttered under my breath.
"Hm? I thought you said we looked familiar?" Kihyun asked.
"Ah. My best friend, an American, is obsessed with K-Pop and she used to ask me to translate things that didn't have subtitles yet because I was the only fluent Korean-speaker that she knew and was close with. I managed to pick up some names and faces, though. Her favorite group was... what was it? Exoskeleton? No, it was shorter than that..."
"EXO?" He corrected.
"Yeah! Them! I can match their names and faces pretty well because she showed me videos of them nonstop." I explained.
"You know, they go here. None of them are in this class right now, but they attend SOPA as well."
"Oh, wow. You know what? This is kind of underwhelming..." I started. Kihyun furrowed his eyebrows in confusion and asked me to explain. "I'm surrounded my people seen and loved by millions, in fact I'm talking to one. I thought I'd be starstruck. Maybe its the school setting?" He shrugged.
"I mean, the glamour isn't as noticeable when we're all in uniform. We are just students after all." he stated.
"That's true. You all look pretty lame in these uniforms," I laughed as I glanced at the the clock. Noticing that the period was nearing its end, I asked Kihyun: "Hey, what class do you have next?"
"Choir, you?" I double checked my schedule:
"Me too. Can you lead me to the room? I have absolutely no sense of direction..." I admitted. Kihyun let out a chuckle.
"Sure!" And as if on cue, the bell rang, signaling the fact that it was the time to go to the next class. Kihyun cheesily held out an elbow for me to hold, "Shall we?"
While I politely declined the elbow, which earned me a pout, I smiled back and stated: "We shall."
A/N: Annnnnd scene. So this is the rewrite of "Always and Forever" and I will be keeping it published until this one catches up to it. For those who are returning, you'll notice that I'm switching out a lot of characters, in fact, Hongbin's no longer going to be a huge part of the story, though the person replacing him is similar in character (in the story, of course. Not in real life). For those who are new, welcome! And enjoy the story!
Edit: Okay so I noticed that this was shit as well, so I fixed some cringey things. I hate myself.
