Regrets
"Petra, we talked about this." I take of my potatoes and look up at the redhead. "No talking about temples, adventures, or anything else involving death until we're done with dinner."
Petra scowls, fiddling with her fork in obvious boredom. "But I don't like potatoes and you are all being so boring just eating."
Olivia waves her fork at the warrior. "We just got back from exploring a desert temple, just give us some time to rest and enjoy our food without thinking about whatever adventure we're having tomorrow."
"Blah!" Petra snorts, sitting up and crossing her arms. "Rest is for the weak!"
I roll my eyes, taking another bite. "Whatever you say Petra, just wait until we're done."
After one huge exaggerated sigh, Petra takes a swing of her milk. Earning bemused looks from me, Olivia, and Lukas. While Axel, glances repeatedly at her plate.
"Hey Petra, are you gonna eat that?"
"It's all yours big guy." Axel, who somehow is already done with his plate, greedily chows down on her plate. I don't really want to watch, but I'm watching nevertheless. Better to look at this sight than my boring looking potatoes.
"Wow Axel, just wow." Lukas shakes his head before taking another bite. "I didn't know it was even possible to eat that fast."
"Hey!" Food nearly flies out of his mouth, and he swallows quickly. "The heat really soaks up my energy! And it was such a long walk back, I felt like I was dying."
Olivia grumbles something under breath before taking another bite. I swallow and-
"EVERYONE! STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING RIGHT NOW!"
Cough vigorously as the potato gets scared right out of me. Weakly grabbing my throat, I cough it back into my mouth. Where, slightly red faced, I can swallow back down the right way.
"Ivor..." I send a glare to the man as I regain my composure. "I believe I have told you not to sneak up on people before, multiple times."
"Yes yes, I know. But!" Ivor slams a bottle on the table, a clear liquid completely filling it. "I heard someone has invented a new potion! And this it!"
"New potion?" Lukas scoots his plate to the side and examines the bottle. "Any idea what it does?"
Ivor giggles and nods his head, but I can hear a Olivia mumbling. "Well there goes my peaceful dinner..."
"I was told by the inventor, who's a farmer shockingly, that this potion eliminates stress for a limited amount of time! Imagine that! A totally stress free time!"
Axel, who has finished Petra's plate, smiles with eyes sparked with excitement. "Oh man this is so cool! So it can be used for battle right? We can use it to help hunt like mobs and stuff."
"There's no way I'm going into battle with knowing what it's like being under this stuff." Petra yanks the bottle from Lukas, popping off the cork and taking a big swig of it before smacking it down on the table.
"Whoa, that stuff is strong." I sigh, and am about to say not to drink Ivor's potions without his okay on it when Axel grabs it and takes a few big gulps himself.
"Guys!" I stand and give a light glare to Petra and Axel. "Are you going to drink all of Ivor's new potion?"
"No! No! Don't worry about it Jesse!" Ivor pulls three more bottles out of his robs and sets them on the table. "I've got plenty! I really stocked up on these new potions so go ahead and try them out!"
"Oh yeah!" Petra grabs a bottle and takes another big drink. Pulling the bottle away with a big ol' grin on her face. Lukas, Olivia, and I take a look at the other bottles, not entirely sure if we should drink it too.
"Come on Liv!" Axel wipes his face and nudges her with his elbow. "It's great! Try some! Try some!"
Olivia grabs a bottle and Lukas looks at Ivor for a moment before grabbing the last bottle himself. Both of them peering at it closely before taking a slip. And both move it away, before taking another drink.
"Oh Jesse." Ivor taps my shoulder and I hesitantly look at him, I have that sense that I need to keep a close eye on my friends. "I have to get back to my house, I've got a potion brewing that I must tend to, let me know the results in the morning."
With that he turns to the door, I'm about to call for him when laughter explodes from behind me. I turn to see Petra beet red pounding on the table as Axel clutches his stomach. Both Lukas and Olivia about a quarter into their bottles already.
"Uhh Ivor-" And he's not in the room anymore, just great. The original bottle in Axel's hand is half gone, before he grins and takes big gulps of the drink.
Olivia giggles, and is she blushing? "Way to go Axel! Chug!"
Petra, still beet red, pounds her fist on the table. "Chug! Chug! Chug!"
I draw in a deep breath, not sure whether I should stop this or not. I mean, even Lukas joins in on the chant, his face dusted red as well. I suppose Ivor didn't lie, my friends are certainly looking really stress free right about now.
Axel drains the bottle, shouting in victory and holding the empty bottle above his head. The others cheering him, even getting louder when he crashes the bottle onto the table. Enough for it to crack apart. Does this stuff make you stronger or more dangerous?
"Jesse!" I worriedly glance up at Petra, her voice sounded weird. Just not right, as if she wasn't all there. "You gotta try thisssssss'uff!"
Before I can say no, since I'm really starting to doubt whether or not this stuff should be consumed, she tosses her half empty bottle over to me. Her throw is incredibly off, and I lurch to the side to catch it before it shatters all over the ground.
"Whoa-hic- nice catch Jesse!" I whip to Lukas at his unusually loud tone, who takes another drink. His bottle almost half empty now too.
"Du-hic, you got to drink that! Like-hic- right now!"
"Yeah Jesse, this s'uff's great. Drink some!"
"Drink it! Drink it! Drink it!"
I raise the bottle to my lips, all my friends encouraging me on in their really loud and slurred voices. It clearly looks like they're having a lot of fun, I'm probably just being over worried. Nothing's bad going to happen. I mean, we're the Order of the Stone, we can handle one new potion.
Before I can change my mind, I take a big gulp. I hurriedly pull it away, the taste immediately burning. But then it starts to taste really good, a sweat tang to it too. I lick my lips, and go in for another drink. Ignoring the first burning sensation.
Jerking my head back, I smile at my friends. "That was... really something else. I can't believe I've let you guys drink so much without me!"
They all scream and whoop when I take another big long swig of the drink. Just like Ivor said, it just burns all my worries away. No worries, no concerns, just nothing but wanting more and more fun.
"Soooo Jesse?" Petra rolls her head to me, hiccupping with a grin on her face. "Tha-ink you can- hic- take me on?"
I snort, smiling back at her. "You don't even have a bo'le missy, how can you beat me?"
Axels laughs loudly, yelling. "OOOOOOHHHH!"
Petra slaps Lukas, and he takes another drink before handing it to her, the bottle past half way empty too. She holds it up as the trophy it is and I bring mine up too. Olivia giggling and starting the count down.
"Three..."
"Hic- two..."
And Petra starts draining the bottle and I quickly start chugging mine too. Feeling more stuff burn away. It's not important, just more worries I'm sure, this potion brings nothing but fun!
The empty bottle cracks as I slam it down on the table. "I WIN!"
Petra removes her empty bottle from her lips, snarling angrily and throwing the bottle at the wall. Where it shatters into a million pieces. We all just laugh, Axel mockingly petting her trying to sooth her like a wild animal.
"Aww... hic- does the wittle Pe'ra need ta calm down?"
She snarls angrily at him too, swatting him away. Me and Lukas just die with laughs as Axel tries to fend her off, pounding on the table as we uncontrollably lose our heads.
Olivia laughs too, taking another swig of her bottle. She still has some of this miracle drink left. I lurch over to grab at it, completely missing but making her jump back into my arm. I wrap my fingers around the bottle and snatch it to me, holding it like the treasure it is.
"MINE-hic- NOW!" Before she can do anything, I drink the rest of it. Only about a good seven gulps before its all gone. It burns and burns inside of me, cleansing my being. I toss the empty bottle behind me, grinning wildly at all my friends as a idea pops up into my head.
~~~~~~~~
"...Jesse!" A piercingly loud yell penetrates my sleep, my head a mush of soup painfully trying to pull itself together.
"Jesse!" This time it shakes my shoulders too, my stomach jumping and flipping out. Everything so completely sore with it and terrible and why can't I just go back to sleep?
"Wake up!" And now it slaps me! My stomach lurching inside of me as I blink my eyes open, hissing as the bright light stabs my poor aching eyeballs. My head searing as this vile creature forces me to wake up.
I groan, closing my eyes and rolling away from the demon, just wanting to get some more sleep. Make that tons of sleep. Maybe a few days more? I don't know, I just want to be at peace. Is that really so much to ask for? Just more sleep so my stomach can calm down again and my head can go back to being soup that doesn't have to do anything.
"Jesse! If you don't get up right now I'll have no restore but to slap you again!"
Groaning louder, in utter frustration and as my aching body grumbles to get me to sit up. I crack my eyes open, resisting the urge to moan as the a dull thud of a heartbeat pounds in my eyes. Trying to make it possible for me to actually see and not this blurry mess of a world.
My tongue, a puffed up puffer fish in my mouth right now, unsuccessfully tries to get my mouth wet enough so I can snap at this cruel person to leave me alone and let me sleep. I feel like I've gone days without sleep and this soulless man comes and wakes me up! What a world full of terrible people.
A fuzzy hand flies way too fast in front of my face. Every organ inside me swaying along with it, my stomach throwing a fit as my head pounds unmercifully. The screaming headache inside of me pleading at me to stop moving or I'll be so miserable even the zombies won't want to eat me.
"Goodness Jesse! You look horrible! What in the Nether happened to you?"
I want to say 'A heartless man woke me up from my blissful slumber.' But as soon as I make some attempt to use my throat, a hoarse squawk comes out of my mouth. My throat feeling and sounding as if I've been in the Nether for days without drinking anything and then swallowing some sand.
Coughing pathetically, I fall back onto the ground. Which is cold and hard and my sore muscles and bones did not enjoy the impact. But it's better than trying to use those muscle to keep up myself upright. This is what happens when you wake a man up from his much desired sleep!
"Jesse! Your friends are in serious trouble! They need you!"
The roaring dragon in my stomach halts and the headache stills. I lurch myself upright, ignoring the searing and horrible light trying to burn my eyes. I push myself up to my feet-
And the sudden blast of strength vanishes. Everything tips and titers as my eyes go in and out of focus. I tumble forward, just like how my stomach is tumbling all around my gut throwing a tantrum. Someone holds me still, which doesn't stop the slime I use to call a brain bouncing up and down in my skull.
"You better be thankful for this Jesse, you reek. I'm surprised I'm not gagging by the retching smell your emitting right now."
I glare at the man, my eyes kinda making out the image of Ivor. Knowing I can't exactly speak right now, I let out a growl and a groan at him. Wasn't it him who got me into this mess in the first place? Isn't it always him who gets me in all my messes? Why do I hang out with this guy?
"Here." Ivor shoves a cool glass bottle in my hand and drags me over to some stairs. I stare at the bottle, making my blistering headache worse by trying to figure out if this is something bad or not.
He sets me, really roughly and cause a jolt to shock my poor sore body. "It's water 'mighty Wither Slayer', it'll help."
Groaning another growl at him, I drink it. Trying not to gag as the chugging action makes me want to spit it out. But as the really nice cool liquid restores life back into my mouth and throat, I get over it. It doesn't do absolutely anything to calm down the stomach declaring war on me right now.
"Ivor..." My voice crackles and it has never sounded so dry before, but the anger is obvious in it. "If you ever try a new potion on us again, I won't be a Wither Slayer. Instead, I'll be a skull crusher and destroy everything inside that house of yours."
He takes a step back, eyeing me viciously. I glare at him right back, it's much easier to tolerate the pain rocketing throughout me when I'm angry at this old man right here.
"I never forced you to drink it, that was on your own free will."
"And no one ever forced you to unleash a Wither Storm! That was your own free will and look at all the pain that caused! Warnings are appreciated Ivor!"
His eyebrows furrow together, and I get the vague fuzzy sense that I didn't make a whole lot of sense. But I don't care. I'm tired. I want to sleep. This guy woke me up. Said my friends were in trouble, which was probably a cruel lie, and now he's making fun of me. I resist a groan, all this thinking is making my head hurt.
"Here's another water, grumpy pants." Still glaring at his only slightly blurry face, I snatch the water bottle and drink all of it. The beautifully cool water unfortunately doing nothing to appease the angry queen in my gullet.
Feeling slightly better, to the point where it only feels like someone is continuously punching my head and stomach in rhythm, I stagger back to my feet. Instantly swaying as my heart hammers to try to keep up on my unsteady feet, legs, entire body really.
"Uhh... Do you really think you should be standing right now?"
I shake my head, immediately regretting it as a searing beam of pain ricochets all across my skull, scoring multiple hits on the organ that used to be a functioning part of my body.
"Go make sure everyone else is fine, and if they're asleep, do not wake them up or you really won't have a house at all to return to."
Ivor looks unsure of himself, and now does my brain finally process the carnage of the Treasure Hall behind him. Multiple treasures are gone, thankfully not the Atlas, but the flint and steel is gone. I'm going to trust though Ivor would have dealt with a fire before torturing me. But so is the enderman mask, the puffer fish, the blaze rod, the Eversource's crown, and Lukas's journal.
Groaning and so not caring enough to do anything about it, I shuffle to my room. Not bothering to stop when I hear Ivor.
"Where are you going?"
"My room." I rub my pound head, the action only serving to inform me of the tangled up mess I used to call hair. "I'm going to lay down until I fall asleep, regretting not smashing those... poisons when I first saw them."
"Jesse, I-I'm sorry about giving them to you. I really didn't think this would happen."
I smile, my dry cracking lips not liking the action. "Oh Ivor, don't be. Petra will make you regret that soon enough anyway."
****
Yep, this is the stuff that comes out of my mind. Aren't you so glad you just read that just now?
I know alcohol and getting drunk doesn't exactly work this way, but consider it takes like less than three seconds for a potion to activated after you drink it, I think it's fine. Besides, so much more fun writing that.
And hey, just like real alcohol, Jesse didn't remember very much of all that he did. And it's much more fun writing his hangover, I have been told that it is a very painful and crippling process to go through. This is why you don't drink poison, ever, it doesn't do anything good. It's POISON!
Anyway, I hope this is reinforcement to never drink. At least not heavily and you're past the drinking age, but it's better just to not drink.
Alcohol message aside, I hoped you like it! And if anyone spots the reference I'll be immensely proud of you. It's from another favorite obsession of mine.
Bye until some other weird thing pops out of my mind!
