75. SILAS: TRUTH BE TOLD AND LIES BE SOLD

"Ethan—"

"The fight started because of him!" I interrupted. "If he hadn't told Avery such lies then this wouldn't have happened."

Ethan frowned up at me. Before he could speak, mother spoke up. After ordering all of us to calm down and take a seat, she disappeared into the kitchen and appeared a few minutes later with a tray of drinks. I frowned at the tea she held out to me.

"I need something much stronger than that, mother."

"Silas—"

"So do I," Ethan said, getting up and making his way over to the bar to pour two glasses of whiskey.

I took the glass from him and swallowed the liquid before handing him the glass again. "I need you to call the doctor. Lara needs t be checked."

"She got sick again?" he asked with a frown.

"Yes but she's a little better than she was the last time this happened."

Devon suddenly slammed a fist down onto the coffee table—making our eyes snap towards him. "Would someone just fucking explain what the hell's going on?"

I smirked at him. "What do you want to hear, father? I—"

"You changed Lara," David softly interrupted him. "Even after we told you that she wouldn't make it through the change. There are no records of anybody ever surviving a change by bite."

"Wrong." I pointed a finger at him as I walked back to the bar. "None of the records have been recorded here because none of the elders are very fort-coming with information. I can tell you that there are at least twelve records of humans that had been changed by bite in the last six years."

"How do you know that?"

I downed the liquid and even though I wanted to pour myself another drink, I capped the bottle and turned around to face them. They were all waiting for an answer and I honestly wasn't sure if I wanted to tell them everything.

Ethan ended the call and glanced up at me. "He'll be here in half an hour."

"Silas, how do you know all this?" my mother asked.

I rolled my shoulders and walked over to the window. "When I left I travelled around a bit to earn money so I could leave town. I worked some odd jobs at a few packs in the area. They were a lot more forthcoming with information regarding our history. One of the elders explained things to me."

"That's how you knew," Ethan muttered.

Nodding, I turned back to face them. "I knew that the there were a fifty-fifty chance of Lara making it. The chances were higher because she has two mates instead of only one. With both our blood running through her veins, it makes her stronger."

"Both your blood?" Devon questioned, in confusion.

"Yeah, uh. . .about that." Ethan rubbed the back of his neck and stared down at the ground. "You see. . . when you first told me about your theory, I—"

"Lara is mated to both of us," I cut him off. "We completed the mating bond in Ottawa."

The tension in the air was so thick that it could've been cut in half by a knife. My smirked widened when I saw that they had paled. My parents were definitely not expecting that. So Ethan hadn't told them about Lara being his true mate. They all suspected it to be a theory and it ended up being true.

My eyes snapped over to the doorway when I spotted movement from the corner of my eyes. Lara stood there with half closed eyes and her hand clutching tightly at the doorframe. She was completely off balance but it didn't seem to be bothering her.

"You should be in bed, sweetness."

She licked her lips and took a step forward only to have her legs gave way beneath her. Ethan was next to her in an instant. He hooked an arm under her knees and picked her up. I wasn't surprised when Lara wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed her face against her neck. But that only lasted for a few seconds. She suddenly pushed him away.

"Silas."

Our eyes locked when Ethan handed her over to me. I could see the pain and confusion in his. He couldn't understand why she was pushing him away instead of wanting to be with him. A part of me was actually happy that Lara was pushing him away. He kissed Avery right in front of here knowing how much it was going to hurt her.

Sinking down onto the couch, I placed Lara on my lap and leaned back. She slipped an arm around my back as she relaxed against me. Lara fell asleep within a few seconds.

"Okay." My mother clapped her hands. "When exactly had all this happened?"

"Lara and I were kidnapped but you already know that. They tortured her to get information from me."

"What information?" Devon asked.

"I lost control and shifted," I said ignoring his question. My mother gasped. "Lara was dying so I did the only thing I knew would keep her alive. I don't remember much about being rescued but somehow we ended up on an island with. . .others like us."

"They're not Lycan mixed," Ethan said softly. "Their DNA is mixed with other animals."

"I don't understand how this—" David fell silent and shook his head. "How did this happen?"

He gestured between Ethan, Lara and me. My eyes darted over to Ethan but his attention was suddenly focused on the floor. I waited and waited but he didn't answer them. So he was going to leave me to do all the explaining. Typical Ethan.

But I couldn't explain things without telling them about what I had done to Avery's brother. I couldn't tell the truth without revealing all the secrets from the past. I wasn't ready for that because that would cause a whole lot of complications, but once again learned that things never went as planned.

"He killed my brother!" Avery screamed as she stormed into the living room. "He didn't run away! Silas killed him."

"Accusations won't get you anywhere," Devon muttered.

"I have proof." She held up a CD and looked right at me with a nasty smirk on her lips. "I have proof that your son killed my brother and then buried the body."

David was the one who took the CD from her and walked over to the DVD-player and TV to play it. The screen was blank at first and then it suddenly change. I tensed as I watched it. I still remembered every single detail but it didn't play off like that. The video had been edited because it showed only me digging a hole and then throwing the body into it.

"See, I'm not lying."

"You are lying, Avery," Ethan said, standing. "You forgot to mention the fact that I was there with him. I was there to help him bury the body and get rid of all the evidence."

"No—"

"Where's the original copy?"

"What original copy? This is—"

"Stop fucking lying to me!" He yelled, slamming a fist into the wall next to her head. "I'm asking you again and you better tell me to truth or I swear to god I won't be responsible for my actions!"

She swallowed and glanced around before looking back at Ethan. "I-I d-destroyed it."

"Did you?" he mocked. "You've become careless, Avery. I found the original copy where you left it. Do you want to know what else I found?"

"You—"

"How did you do it?" he asked. "How did you manage to get pregnant when I made sure to take precautions? I made sure that you'd never fall pregnant, not by me."

"Because you wanted that human bitch instead."

"Ethan!" Mother yelled when he raised his hand to slap her. "That's enough. You don't raise your hands on a woman."

"She's not a woman mother," I told her. "Women don't kill babies or destroy relationships. Women don't fuck around with other men."

"Watch your mouth, Silas," Devon warned.

I rolled my eyes at him but stayed silent. My darted down to Lara. I reached up a shaky hand and stroked a finger down her cheek. I might seem unaffected but inside my worry was increasing. Avery had shown them the video and I knew that both or either one of my father's would punish me. They wouldn't let this go. If it got out that they knew and did nothing then they could get in trouble. It's all one big fucking mess and I was already regretting coming back here again.

Avery was still trying to deny all accusations Ethan was throwing at her and my mother was trying to step in between. The video was still playing on repeat but nobody was really paying any attention to that.

Maybe we should've been paying attention because then we would've seen that Avery wasn't the only one who had seen us killing that boy.
