Part Eleven

I have plans for this book, I just hope my brain remembers them.

"You're an asshole."

"And you are a condescending psychopath."

"At least I-"

"Shut up! Will the two of you please shut up?!" Tim snapped at his older brothers, glaring at them as they exited the zeta tubes into Mount Justice. "We get it, you two are fighting, but please, save it for the sparring area, okay?"

Jason and Dick just glared at each other under their masks, standing far apart from one another as they waited for the team to make themselves known.

Said team walked out from where their rooms were located, making their way to the sparring area of the mountain to meet their four newest members for training. They walked in on the tail end of the conversation, immediately sensing the tension in the room.

"Woah, what is happening here?" Artemis asked, looking between the four brothers.

"X and Hood are fighting, nothing new." Tim shrugged. "So, how does this work?"

Kaldur glanced at his team. "Well, normally we wait for Black Canary to come facilitate our training but she called to say that Batman would be handling it today. We figured he would show up with you lot."

The brothers grunted. "He's not with us, so do we begin without him?"

"I say we wait for him." M'gann voted.

Yeah, who knows what these four will do without their keeper here to stop them.

You know we can hear you on this, right?

Maybe that was the point.

Damian sneered at the team, crossing his arms over his chest and mumbling under his breath. "For mother. We're doing this for mother."

"I say we start right now. I'm itching to fight." Dick declared, staring straight at Jason as he spoke.

"Fine by me, you psychopath. Just lay down the rules, Aqualad." Jason growled.

Kaldur nodded. "Alright. No weapons and no killing, obviously. Anyone can call off the match. First one to land on their back and stay there, loses. Got it?" Both twins nodded, heading to the middle of the room after discarding their weapons. "Alright, begin!"

Jason and Dick stared at each other for a moment before diving at one another, fists pulled back to strike. They dealt and dodged blows effortlessly, working off the other's energy.

Dick punched Jason in the face.

Jason retaliated with a vicious chop to the back of Dick's neck, sending his twin sprawling onto his stomach.

Dick rolled over, leaping to his feet to avoid Jason's kick. He dodged the next one, dealing his own kick to Jason's stomach.

Jason staggered backwards, grunting. He ran at Dick, faking him out before hitting him in the ribs with a punch.

Dick growled, whirling around with his foot raised to roundhouse kick Jason in the head.

Jason ducked under it, springing up to slam his fist under Dick's jaw.

Dick stumbled backwards from the force of the punch. He snarled, diving at Jason once more.

"Enough." The twins stopped, both of them ready to strike at a moment's notice. They glared at each other under their masks, waiting for further instruction, not realizing who had spoken. "I thought I gave you all explicit instructions to wait for me before starting training."

Jason and Dick turned to see their father standing in his suit, eyes narrowed at his team. "Sorry, Batman." They spoke at the same time, jerking their thumbs at the other. "He started it."

"Whatever, traitor." Jason hissed at Dick.

"Shut up, jerk." Dick snapped. "You have no idea what you are talking about."

Batman stared at his two oldest sons as they devolved into mindless bickering, sighing as he pinched the bridge of his nose. "Boys. Boys!" Dick and Jason turned to their father once more but kept an eye on their twin, just in case. "Care to explain what is happening?"

"No. We don't have to tell you anything, I mean, its not like you're our father." Jason smirked under his mask when Batman narrowed his eyes further.

"I am still your mentor and that means you need to answer to me." Silence. "We will be talking about this back at the cave, for now, let's continue with training. Aqualad, since this is your team, how would you like to split them up?"

Kaldur nodded, stepping forward. "I will sit out this round. Let us pair up...X and Kid Flash, Hood and Artemis, Stray and Superboy, and Abyss and Miss Martian. We need to get a feel for what they can do."

Batman nodded. "Good thinking, Aqualad. Alright, you know the rules, get to it."

Everyone discarded of their weapons as Batman and Kaldur took a step back to the sidelines to observe. The pairs jumped into sparring, the brothers easily being the better fighters than their counter parts without powers or weapons.

Artemis was holding her own against Jason decently up until he gave her a nerve strike, sending her to the floor declaring him the winner a moment after his brothers had finished their fights.

"You're getting slow in your old age, Hood." Tim chuckled, offering a hand to Conner. Conner stared at it for a moment before accepting.

"Oh, shut up, Stray. I was just humoring her." Jason rolled his eyes, helping Artemis off the floor after the nerve strike wore off.

Batman stared at his sons, silently judging their skills and making plans in his head for more training. He glanced at his team, making the same plans in his head that he would relay to Black Canary.

"Alright, let us pair off again. This time, I want powers to be used as well as non lethal weapons. Got it? I want a full idea of your capabilities. Begin." Batman watched with Kaldur as the teens jumped back into training, this time a bit more of a challenge for his sons.

Kaldur turned to Batman with a curious expression. "Batman, what kind of...understanding...do you have with Talia al Ghul to bring her four sons under your wing?"

Batman turned to glare at Kaldur. "That is none of your business,  Aqualad. Don't question me again."

"Yes sir."

Kaldur looked to the four brothers, hearing Hood mock Artemis. He could've sworn he had heard that tone somewhere before, he just couldn't place it where. He shook his head, assuming he had heard it before on a mission against the Shadows.

After all, he had to remind himself, they were still Shadows.
