11: The Attacks
Chapter 11: The attacks
The next morning Shona awoke in the girls dormitories, still feeling smug over her heated exchange with Snape. She liked watching him fall deeper and deeper into confusion when he couldn't think of a comeback and knowing she was the reason was a gratifying feeling. She chuckled as she got dressed and then headed down to the Common Room where there were lots of shouts and worried voices. Ron ran over to her when she reached the foot of the stairs.
"Colin Creevy's been petrified!"
"By what? Harry Potter? Did he finally lose it with him and his camera?"
"No, not me," Harry shook his head as he came over. "He's been attacked by something and is in the hospital wing. They say whatever is attacking is targeting only those from muggle born families."
Shona felt herself go cold. "Lucy and Hermione, they're in trouble."
Harry and Ron looked shocked.
"I think we should go tell Lucy," Harry announced grimly.
The three of them waded through the sea of people before being able to exit the common room. They headed down to the gloomy dungeons and hammered on the door frantically.
"Yes?" Snape's voice slithered out of the crack of the door. They watched him open it slowly and then glare down at them all.
"We need to speak to Lucy, its urgent," Harry exclaimed, his eyes wide.
Snape's eyes flicked over all of them, trying to detect a lie.
"She's sleeping" and with that he slammed the door.
"Snivy!" Shona barked. "There was an attack last night! Whoever is attacking is after muggle borns!"
There was no response and the door didn't even open a crack. Harry's shoulders slumped when they heard from inside.
"Lucy! Up! Now!"
"Just five more minutes, please!"
"Now!"
The three looked at each other before the door opened and Lucy was thrown out. She'd been able to get in her school uniform just in time. It shut behind her and she looked at them. "What?"
"You're in danger," Shona was the first to speak.
"Is this some stupid joke about my dad again?"
"No," Harry shook his head. "Something is attacking muggle borns in the school."
"We think you're at risk," Ron added.
The door opened again and Snape peered out, all turned to him. "I can assure all of you that whatever is attacking is none of your concern. The teaching body has everything under control "
"You including Lockhart in that?" Shona's shoulders slumped. "If so we're doomed."
"Maybe so but Dumbledore is still here to help. As for the attacks there's only been two and only one on a student. I suggest you take your worries elsewhere, there is no solid evidence that only muggle borns are being attacked."
The writing on the wall flashed across Snape's eyes. Yes, he spoke lies but he couldn't have Lucy worrying.
"Now I suggest you run along and get yourselves ready for a day of learning."
Harry and Ron guiltily left but Shona stood her ground. "Stop pulling the wool over her eyes." And with that she left.
Lucy turned to Snape. "Do you think that was a joke?"
"The attacks are not a joke," Snape opened the door and led her back inside. "But their theorising of who is attacking what is, so you've no need to worry as I have told you."
Lucy nodded slowly and then continued getting ready for her school day.
*
Everything went smoothly at Hogwarts for a bit, everyone was excited about the quidditch match between Gryffindor and Slytherin, even though it was her dad's house she was against she wanted to show them Slytherins what she had in her. She was determined to beat them, after all they were Gryffindor's worst enemy. On the day of the match Lucy ran down to where she would be meeting her team mates. No one was there yet, so she quickly got changed into her quidditch uniform and decided to go out onto the pitch for some practice.
She zoomed out onto the pitch and practiced her drops turns and standing up on her broom, she made sure her nimbus 2000 went fast enough so she had a great chance of beating the Slytherins. When Lucy saw Wood she got off of her broom to talk to him. He looked pretty annoyed about something.
"Oliver what's up?" Lucy asked confused.
"Well Lucy we have a bit of competition this year, Draco Malfoy is the seeker and the whole team has nimbus 2001's the newest fastest broom out yet." Wood growled.
"We're screwed," Lucy said standing her broomstick up, it still felt fantastic to her but a newer model surely meant she had less chance of catching the snitch.
Just then Draco and the slytherin captain walked onto the pitch. Lucy saw clearly that they both had new brooms. They were engraved in gold at the top of the broom, just like Lucy's but except her's said 'Nimbus 2000.'
"Oh look Draco its Woody and Snape's daughter, I wonder who Snape will be cheering for? His daughter or his own house?" The slytherin captain said and Draco laughed.
Draco turned to Lucy.
"What are you looking at you filthy mud blood!" Draco glared. But at this point Lucy lost it. She launched at Draco. Seconds later they were fighting.
Snape walked onto the pitch and he saw the commotion and broke into a run. He grabbed Lucy and pushed Draco away.
"What in the name of Merlin is going on here?!" Snape barked.
"Draco...Called....Me a....Filthy....MUD BLOOD!" Lucy shouted and managed to wiggle free of Snape's grip.
Draco and Lucy began to fight again, Wood had to put Lucy's arms behind her back to stop her from fighting, the Slytherin captain had to do the same to Draco.
"Lucy, enough! Otherwise I won't let you play today's game." Snape's voice was stern even though he thought her actions were justified.
"You're telling me off when he called me something lowest of the low!" Lucy's eyes were wide, she wanted him to believe her.
Snape turned on Draco. "Any more name calling and you'll be banned from Quidditch."
Draco glared at Lucy who stuck out her tongue when Snape wasn't looking.
Draco sneered just as people started to fill the stadium. Lucy and Wood went inside the Gryffindor tent. They waited for everyone to arrive.
"HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE FIRST QUIDDITCH GAME OF THE SEASON!" Lee Jordan yelled.
He called out the Slytherin team then the Gryffindor team.
"AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST FOR THE GRYFFINDOR TEAM....LUCY SNAPE THE GRYFFINDOR SEEKER!"
Lucy whizzed around to the Gryffindor's and stuck her hand out for high fives. The Gryffindor team cheered as she joined her team ready for the game.
All the balls for quidditch were thrown up into the air and the game began. Lucy almost immediately saw the snitch. She began to chase it around the pitch. Draco began to follow as well. Lucy growled, because Draco could go faster on his broom. Just then a bludger came heading for Lucy she moved out the way. It narrowly missed Draco. But then the snitch decided to go underneath where everyone sat. Draco hesitated but Lucy continued to follow the snitch. It was going to go up the stairs to where the teachers sat. Including Snape. Lucy followed the snitch up the stairs, it was heading for the entrance to the top now. It was about to go when it changed directions, Lucy was going to go through the floor. She couldn't stop herself because her broom was going so fast. She braced herself. Then SMASH! She had hit the floor boards and was through. She heard teachers gasp, but didn't take any notice. After that she had wood in her hair, she tried to brush it out whilst looking for the snitch again.
Lucy leant forward on her broom, then she saw it. Lucy was really close to the ground now. The snitch was about to move when...Yes! She had grabbed the snitch. Lucy had jumped off of her broom and caught the snitch. Lucy laid on the floor and held it up.
"LUCY SNAPE HAS CAUGHT THE SNITCH! WHAT A VICTORY FOR THE GRYFFINDOR TEAM! CONGRATULATIONS LUCY!"
Lucy panted and put her arm down. She was exhausted. Just then Fred and George lifted Lucy up by her arms and lifted her into the air. They put her on their shoulders and Lucy held up the snitch once more. She then hopped off and onto her broom and whizzed over to where the teachers were sat and dropped into the seat next to Snape.
"I think Draco just had it handed to him," Lucy smirked.
"And I think you are an exceptionally good seeker but I advise you not to get too cocky that way my actions towards him are justified."
Lucy smiled as the crowd continued to cheer; another victory for Gryffindor just couldn't dampen her spirits.
