The Assassination
Chapter 1: The Assassination
The Ministry of Magic wasn't expecting anything extra ordinary to happen today.
There was only a couple of days left of the holidays for the children and the parents were already helping them pack. At the Ministry, the entrance was packed with people. Some were qualified for the most outrageous things possible. Whether it be collecting misbehaving muggle items or saving Howletts zoo from a magical outbreak; they had it all. Most witches and wizards appeared through floo network, a fire place and green flames was all it would take for the person to appear.
You couldn't spot a particular face in the crowd, so when a well groomed man walked past a mountainous fountain no one took notice. He was nineteen but had the look of a grown gentleman. His suit looked brand new and he carried the Daily Prophet to add to his look of superiority as he advanced to the nearest elevator. It shuddered as the man crammed in with the other workers, the floor juddered as the forties looking elevator flew off, the man looking calm and normal.
After a couple of minuets, the man was the only one left. He arrived at the platform alone and steady.
"Captivity of suspicious and dangerous witches and wizards," a lady's voice boomed in the elevator after the doors had opened. But the man was already in his stride, and left the woman to announce alone. He walked through a narrow, dark corridor which eventually opened up into a big circular room, tiled with black tiles and a wooden circular desk dominated the middle. There was only a couple of men there, and a lady who looked like a secretary, he looked around and saw some jail cells where the prisoners would be while they were logged in. The groomed man walked up to the desk, where the lady behind it smiled, she must of been in her early twenties.
"Hello there, Sir, can I see your ID please," she asked politely. The boy flicked out his ID and handed it over. The witch then took out her wand, casting spells to see whether it was fake or not.
"Mr Gulleys, thought you were new. I only know as not many new faces come here," the secretary said.
The man forced a smile.
The lady sighed. "I'm sorry Mr Gulleys you're going to have to wait a minute or two, security and all that. Why don't you tell me a bit about yourself? How did a charming man like you get a job like this?"
Mr Gulleys looked behind him to see if he was keeping anybody up. Sadly he wasn't and turned back to the secretary. He sighed and told her a brief story.
"I passed all my N.E.W.T's and O.W.L's, went on to a high wizarding university, got a scholarship for John Lawyers...." Mr Gulleys nearly groaned as he said this.
"You're lucky, I've been waiting for a promotion in years..." Her voice trailed off. They stayed like that for the best part of two minutes, but Mr Gulleys had become impatient. He shook her by the shoulder.
"Excuse me ma'am but can I see Mr Bullivarda now?"
"Oh yes, sorry, he's in room 265," she pointed to another long corridor. "Be careful..." Were her parting words.
"Don't worry, I've done many cases like this," he mumbled to her and started to walk to the hallway. The hallway was alined with doors, getting further and further apart as he progressed. There was no one else walking here, only the navy blue suit could be seen walking. The footsteps echoed and he eventually came to some steps, again, covered in black tiles. There were no more doors now. He ascended with his paper and came to another door. Mr Gulleys, checked himself over and made sure there were no creases and braced himself for what he was about to do. He looked to the side of the door to see an ocean through the window.
"Mirage..." He muttered under his breath. He stood very still and eventually talked to the door. "Mr Gulleys to see Mr Bullivarda," he spoke, no emotion in his voice.
A flap in the door swung open and Mr Gulleys saw two dark eyes scan him, Mr Gulleys stood his ground and waited for a reply.
"Are you the lawyer?"
"Yes."
At the word the flap slammed shut. After a while the door opened to reveal a beefy guard.
"Good day to you, Sir," Mr Gulleys greeted, unaffected by the mass that stood in front of him.
"Would you like to speak to prisoner Bullivarda on your own sir?" The guard asked politely but gruff. Even though the boy was younger he must treat him with better maturity.
"Yes please, it's the right of Mr Bullivarda to have privacy during this meeting. But could you wait at the bottom of the stairs please, in case things...get out of hand," Mr Gulleys raised his eyebrows at the words.
"Yes, Sir," the guard said, walking away. Mr Gulleys moved politely to give him space. The guard trudged down the steps and the lawyer walked into the room.
It was like stepping into a castle room. Again it was circular, but made of stone and lacking cleanliness unlike the Ministry itself. This was a cell though, so there was no need. Mr Gulleys stared at the room he was about to enter. There was a wooden chair, facing the furthest wall away, so all you could see was the prisoners back. There was a coffee table next to the prisoner but he was unable to use it, since he was tied up in chains.
The chair had been welded to the floor and the windows looked like they belonged in a black and white film. You could see the ocean, but they were out of sight of the prisoner. Mr Gulleys took a deep breath, then moved in. He walked fast and soon appeared in front of Mr Bullivarda, slamming the Daily Prophet with great force onto the table. This made the prisoner jump but when he saw the lawyers face he let out a smile. His green teeth glowed.
"Kingston!" He whimpered.
"Hello, Thomas." Mr Gulleys said blankly.
"It's commander to you!" He shouted.
"Not any more, you've lost your ranking," he sneered at the man.
"I know! I know!" The man rocked back and fourth as if he was a child having a temper. "My fullest apologies to Lord Zuc, I am at his command. I thank him for sending my friend to save me..." There was a long pause, until the prisoner started to shout. "They're going to take me to Azkaban!" He yelled. "Some stupid wizardy-doo prison! There will be dementors everywhere, you know all about dementers, don't you — "
"SHUT UP!" Kingston yelled back, and his commander whimpered.
Kingston banged his hand down on the coffee table, saying the words fiercely but as calmly as he could. "Thomas, you have been found guilty of being unable to capture Lucy Snape, Severus Snape and Shona McGuire as one of them possesses the orb."
"What!? I wasn't the only one!" He screamed the words at Kingston, and the lawyer grew dangerously close to him.
"We know that...We have already dealt with the others," Kingston hissed. "But you, the commander, out of all the others! You were stupid enough to get yourself captured! Thomas, you even told them about the orb, everything we know. Our existence is near exposure because of you!" He whispered the last part. "Do you know they even made a new floor in the Ministry of Pointy Hats dedicated to find the truth about us! And you think you can be forgiven..." His voice trailed off and he stood up, tidying his suit. Bullivarda lost it.
"Please, my friend, just get me out of here!" The commander winced.
"I'm afraid that I have not been sent to help you — but eliminate you..." he took pleasure in the words and smiled. The commander screamed as the lawyers eyes flashed with danger.
Then Mr Gulleys pounced.
He sprang onto the commander, grabbing his neck and twisting it to the side, to reveal a pulsing vein, beating rapidly.
"Kingston!"
Kingston's eyes drifted over the begging the man.
"Please..."
"You disgust me," he spat. "You are drawn to begging! You have betrayed all of us!"
"Kingston – !"
"You are no friend of mine," he growled. He swiftly bit the man on the neck, injecting his venom into the vein. Bullivarda screamed with agony as his vein grew a dead black. Kingston stepped black to watch the pain unfold. Thomas watched as the blackness ran up all of his veins, he looked like he was being consumed by a spiders web. He shouted more as it flowed into his arteries. Kingston smiled.
"I...I — " but the prisoner could not speak, he sat there, mouth open, eyes widened at his friend. Kingston licked his lips of blood, his fangs disappeared and moulded themselves into canine teeth.
"I think I'll let you suffer for a bit," he muttered.
He took out a wand from his pocket and whisked out a wooden stool. He sat down on it and picked up the Daily Prophet.
"Oh look, a report on the Chudley Cannons vs the Red Vipers this week," he said sarcastically. "I was thinking about going but I'm not sure now, any thoughts?" He laughed menacingly as Bullivarda let out a groan of pain.
"Well I best be going" he stood up and placed the newspaper back down on the table. To Bullivarda's absolute surprise the lawyer took out his wand again.
"Sycer Exilision!" He screamed at the wall. It exploded in dust, giving a fantastic view above Dover. On top of the cliffs of Dover.
"Wh..." The prisoner stuttered. That was impossible! He was in the Ministry of Magic not some muggle place!
"Those stairs," Kingston pointed to the door. "They convert miles of steps, so instead of walking one thousand miles I had to walk one hundred steps. You see, it's a way of keeping the most wanted apart. That's why we're in Dover. And that's why the guard hasn't heard us..."
He walked closer to the wall. It was dug into the cliff and it was a straight fall downwards.
"Did you say something?" He asked sarcastically. "I thought so."
Kingston spread out his arms out and fell. Free falling and tumbling in the air, he straightened out in then end and out ripped his wings. He flew just above the main road. Dodging the cars as he went. A Ford focus swerved into another lane and smashed into another car. Kingston flew out to sea and went higher. He turned back to the cliffs and could see the coast below him. He could see a dot on the edges of on the cliffs and he flew closer. He slowed down and landed next to the boy. He must of been the same age as him.
"Did you do it?" He asked.
"Easy."
"Did you enjoy it?"
"Oh yes," he smiled and licked the corner of his mouth of excess blood.
"Are you sure?"
Kingston sighed and pulled out his wand. He flicked it.
"Fincia!" He said calmly. The cliff he had just been in blew up and the flames grew high. The heatwave could be felt from where they were standing . Kingston didn't even bother to turn around and watch the boys face light up as screams from below could be heard.
"I think I did..." He grinned darkly
The boys laughed menacingly and left Dover in utter chaos.
