Quotidian Quick Quills

Chapter 8: Quotidian Quick Quills

Lucy led her new bodyguard, Dean Cousins, around Hogwarts castle. He held onto her arm nervously as she showed him every inch of the place. As they walked, however, Dean kept glancing at different students to see if the posed as a threat to Lucy Snape the girl he vowed to risk his life for from now on. Dean couldn't help but pay very close attention to what Lucy was saying, it was vital information and he needed to know everything he could about Hogwarts.

"So what do you think, so far?" Lucy asked Dean who finished looking around at the Transfiguration courtyard and took out his notebook and a quill.

"I like the place, it's really nice," he nodded, jotting down a few notes. "But what are the badges on your robe?" He asked, Dean let go of her arm and Lucy pointed to the badges on her chest.

"One is because I am a prefect, in which I walk around school and help people out and the other is because I'm Gryffindor's Quidditch captain," Lucy then went on to explain about the four different houses of Hogwarts and their meaning. "You have to be pretty special to be Quidditch captain."

"I think you're special!" Dean blurted out and tried to hide his blush with his notebook, Lucy laughed.

"Thank you, Dean, that's rather kind of you. Now, how about I show you the seventh floor?"

They wandered up to the seventh floor together, Dean still clinging onto her arm like a lost puppy but still trying to be dominant. He would prove his worth at this school and look after Lucy no matter what happened.

When they arrived they walked around until Lucy halted, causing Dean to give a shuddery halt too. Dean looked at her, hoping for some kind of explanation but none was given. He tapped her on the shoulder politely to get her attention.

"What's Draco Malfoy doing up here?" She asked in a low voice, more thinking out loud than anything.

"Lucy, what is a Draco Malfoy?" Dean asked timidly.

"That — " Lucy pointed at the blond haired Slytherin as he stood outside where the door for the room of requirement was. "He's not supposed to be up here," Lucy began to walk off but Dean grabbed her by her waist, hauling her back with both arms.

"I think he's trouble! We should stay here!" Dean advised as Lucy struggled against him. Lucy broke free from Dean's grip and strode towards Draco.

"MALFOY!" Lucy yelled running towards him.

"Wait!" Dean whimpered as he ran after Lucy. "Wait!"

"Ah, Lucy Snape! How peculiar I should find you up here! I could just call your father now and tell him about how you're wandering off at this hour," Draco spat sourly.

"Could say the same thing about you, besides, I'm a prefect."

"So am I — " Draco pointed to the badge on his chest.

"Well you weren't last year."

"That's because Umbridge's group was better than Dumbledore's stupid prefects. I would have taken the Inquisitorial Squad any day over the job of a prefect."

"Why join now?"

"Because I have to."

"You could just give the badge back."

Draco fell silent.

"Coward," Lucy gave an evil smirk, she'd finally caught Draco out on this one.

Draco snarled and pulled out his wand. "Be quiet you filthy little — "

"GET DOWN!" Dean screamed all of a sudden, tackling Draco to the floor. Fury flooded into Dean's eyes as he snarled into Draco's face, he grabbed hold of Draco's shoulders and pinned him down. The wand that Draco had just taken out to attack Lucy with rolled onto the floor to her feet.

"GET OFF OF ME!" Draco screamed. "Who are you anyway?" He demanded.

"Dean Cousins!" Dean smiled proudly. "I'm Lucy's bodyguard and I am going to protect her this year from dangers like you who want to attack her."

"So now Snape gets a bodyguard? What is this Earth becoming of? Who said this could happen anyway?"

"It doesn't matter who said it, it just matters that people like you stay away from her!"

"Oh you're pathetic! You're like a chihuahua!"

"If I'm like a chihuahua, you could throw me off of you, right?"

"Fine! I will!" Draco used all his strength to throw Dean off of him but no matter how hard he tried he couldn't do it. Dean sat there and yawned as Draco tried so desperately to get rid of him.

"Who's the chihuahua now?" Dean taunted.

"So what are you doing up here then?" Lucy asked as Draco continued to struggle against Dean who didn't even look like he was making an effort to pin him down.

"Important business. How about you?"

"Quite the contrary...well, you could call it important business..."

"What is it?"

"I'm showing Dean around Hogwarts so he knows where everything is and who poses as a threat. I think he's already found one threat," Lucy smiled and Draco growled in return. "Come on, Dean, lets continue your tour. We only have one place to go now."

Dean stood up and walked off with Lucy, leaving Draco to struggle to his feet. He bent down and picked up his wand and then went back to trying to open the Room of Requirement.

Lucy and Dean headed to Defense Against the Dark Arts together so they could complete their tour and meet Snape in his quarters. Hopefully everyone was finished in detention which meant Lucy could take Dean straight up to Snape's quarters so that they could meet each other. But as they walked Lucy noticed Dean's worried look again.

"Dean," Lucy pondered. Dean spun around and looked at her eagerly, as if he couldn’t believe she had used his name once again. "Are you OK?"

"Yes...it's just...I never expected to visit Hogwarts in my life! It's so fantastic and it's an experience I never thought I'd have! I had heard about Wizards and Witches when I was a child." Dean seemed utterly awestruck.

"What do you mean? Aren't you a Wizard yourself?" Lucy frowned. "Surely you must be otherwise you wouldn't be allowed in Hogwarts."

"I, uh...no, I'm not a Wizard," he looked down at his feet. "I'm from the Medieval Islands..."

Lucy stopped walking and backed away from her bodyguard, her eyes were widened and she had her wand out. She was not expecting this, her bodyguard was from the Medieval Islands! Didn't this just scream danger? After Lucy's experience on the Medieval Islands she wasn't too chuffed that her bodyguard happened to be one of those people.

"Lucy?" He squeaked. "I'm so, so sorry!"

"T-The Resistance! They s-should know about this!" She stammered. She didn't know what to think about this situation and it seemed those were the only words she could get out of her mouth.

"But most of the Resistance are all from the Medieval Islands apart from Jessica who is a Witch herself but moved to the Medieval Islands a while ago after she became a vampire. So there are some magic folk amongst the Resistance but we're mostly from the Medieval Islands because we don't like Zuc or the build up to his take over. But some of the Resistance who don't know how to use magic have learnt some kind to protect them, not like your kind of magic but enough to help them out. I didn't want to learn it, I just preferred combat."

"But why do you of all people want to help me? Zuc gives me a terrible name on the Islands."

"We used to think bad of you but then we realised that you weren't so bad after all, we saw some hope for you rather than Zuc who's plan didn't seem that heroic. So we joined up and talked about you in secret."

"Didn't you get caught?"

"We were extra careful and had secret meetings down in a basement, it was really fun. Those meetings in the basement were like the only spark of hope we had."

"But if you're not a Wizard, doesn't that make you a muggle?" Lucy frowned, the thought just occurring in her head.

"The folk from the Medieval Islands that can't do magic are not classed as muggles. We're kind of like a new breed but we're definitely not muggles despite the fact that we can't do magic."

"So what did you do on the Islands?"

"My dad made stuff for the Knights but then found out about the Resistance and started making stuff for them like swords and shields. I guess this links back to the Islands and Wizards, we use your magic sometimes but it's not our main strength and you use swords but it's not your main strenght," Dean pointed out wisely and then continued.  "As well as dad helping out the Resistance that's when I started training with them. But then my dad got found out and me and my family were used as training practice for knights...they killed my dad because of this..."

"What about your mother?"

"She's still alive but I haven't seen her since I escaped the Medieval Islands...her name is Pip Cousins. If you ever see her please let me know, I'd love to see her again," Dean whispered sadly, thinking how happy he'd be if he could ever see his mother once again. For all he knew, though, she could be dead.

Lucy gave him an apologetic look. "Please forgive me, Dean, I'm so sorry for the way I reacted."

"It's perfectly understandable, I would have reacted the exact same way!" He smiled and then turned back to the castle. "This place is lovely."

"It is quite pretty isn’t it?" Lucy smiled. It suddenly occurred to Lucy that the Island feared Witches and Wizards just as much as the Tale of the Knights was feared in the Wizarding world.

"How are the others? Are they like they say they are?" Dean asked intensely. Lucy looked at him stunned. "They say that one of them can control others through her mind? Would she do that to me? Or your father will..." he paused looking a little ashamed. What he'd heard on the Islands were undoubtedly lies.

"Tell me the lie’s you’ve heard about dad and Shona, Dean, I won’t be mad," Lucy gave him an encouraging look to tell him he shouldn't be afraid. But despite her reassurance he still let out a little whimper.

"Well your father, Severus Snape, is said to be a strange man. Not in that way, Lucy! I have respect for him! But he’s meant to be quite...sharp," he choked in horror. Lucy shook her head.

"Don’t worry about the others, they’re nicer than me!" Lucy granted which made Dean smile, holding his hands together like a little child. He didn’t say much after that as they slowly made their way up the never ending staircase to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. He followed her closely upstairs, watching Lucy’s every move and anything that moved around her keeping his guard up in case anything like Draco or worse tried to attack.

"You’re sticking to me quite well, Dean! I’m impressed!" Lucy encouraged as the walls seemed to get darker. It appeared Snape had brought his personality from the dungeons with him to the Defense Against the Dark Arts area.

"No, I’m just scared," Dean whispered honestly.

"You don’t need to be! The Defense Against the Dark Arts area is nothing at all like the dungeons, I'd call this place much more homely than the dungeons where me and dad used to live when dad taught Potions," Lucy patted him on the shoulder. Dean nodded his head until it was about to fall off of his neck.

They walked into the classroom and then up a few more steps to get to Snape's quarters. They approached Snape’s door and Lucy halted him.

"Now don’t feel intimidated, dad and Shona can be a little...hostile to each other at times. But it’s just the way they are," Lucy reassured, knowing that Shona would be in Snape's quarters after serving her detention or maybe still carrying out her detention for that matter.

Dean prepared himself by making a ‘whooping’ noise before smiling apologetically to Lucy. She swung open the door to find Snape and Shona arguing as per usual in the little kitchen area that Snape had in his quarters. Shona was covered in ice mixing.

"I was licking the bowl!" Shona protested

"You shoved your head in it!" Snape growled.

"My hair got stuck in it! It wasn’t intentional! You know how it is, Snape, when your glossy long hair gets caught in things..."

Snape growled and Shona shrugged. "You wait, McGuire, if you weren’t so — "

"So what? Good at livening up your life? Come on, Snape, smile! I’m only trying to make you smile!"

"You little — " Snape snapped and grabbed the front of her white shirt like he had to the American boy earlier.

"STOP ARGUING!" Lucy shouted at the top of her voice. Everything stopped.

"Hello!" Dean waved from behind Lucy excitedly but put his hand down at the looks he got. Lucy pushed Dean forward a little bit despite him struggling and spoke.

"Dad, this is Dean, he’s looking after me at school now. The Resistance described him as my bodyguard so that he can protect me no matter what," Lucy introduced.

"I see," Snape said in his tone that usually meant he was analysing you. He didn't seem too jubilant about the idea of a man looking after his daughter, he felt he could do a fine job his self. But taking into consideration the recent circumstances he had to admit himself it was appropriate. Even with the Resistance helping out anyway as well as the teachers trying to protect the students, along with the tightened security altogether.

Dean stood confidently still. Snape walked towards him and held out a hand, which Dean shook happily. Lucy made an indication for him to say something. Dean made a little gasping noise and mumbled politely.

"I like your shoes."

Shona gave him thumbs up, which Dean seemed a little surprised at. Snape didn’t know whether the twenty-year-old was a little stupid or just trying to be nice. Dean knew he should have said something along the lines of ‘of course Mr Snape, I shall be a loyal bodyguard to your daughter.’ But he had just been too nervous to stand in the presence of the gifted he had forgotten everything. He was big fans of the gifted and was surprised he had been confident enough to talk to Lucy herself.

"Dean’s very good at fighting, dad! He proved that a minute ago when we were on the seventh floor making our way here because he tackled Draco before he could hurt me. He’s a very polite young man too, I’m sure he’s just a little worried though. All the rumours around the Islands have made him shake a little.” Lucy backed him up while Shona went and got a cloth from a kitchen. Snape could actually see the man shaking.

"The Islands?" Snape asked and Lucy went on to explain where Dean was from and that he supported Lucy one hundred percent and would rather spit at Zuc's feet rather than worship him. Snape nodded in agreement then returned to the idea of Draco. "What was Mr Malfoy doing on the seventh — ?" Snape began then stopped.

"Dad?" Lucy asked

"No matter," he said.

"I can honestly say that Dean is good at fighting," Lucy said, ignoring the short mention of Draco Malfoy.

"Is that true Mr...? You do have a last name? Don’t you?" Snape asked. Dean took this as an opportunity to regain a little faith.

"Cousins, Sir," he said in his usual tone, which was strong and sure. Snape raised his eyebrows.

"Well, at least you have manners," he mumbled and walked off back to his drinks cabinet, Dean wondered what to do next.

"Is there anything you need for me to do, Sir?" He asked. Snape looked around.

“Not at the moment, Mr Cousins. If I need you I’ll call for your assistance," he told him. Dean smiled happily.

"Yes, Sir," he bowed and hit his knee on the coffee table, making Lucy giggle. He hastily picked all of Snape's things up as quickly as he could. When Snape turned around, it was as if nothing had happened. Lucy's eyes opened wider. Dean raised his eyebrows secretly to her.

"Come on, Dean, lets go to my room so I can finish off my homework," Lucy said taking her bodyguard to her room. She sat on the floor and took her bag from her bed where Snape had left it, she then opened it up and poured out her homework that she had to finish.

"That's a lot of homework..." Dean said in awe.

"It is, isn't it?" Lucy agreed as she watched Dean stand there awkwardly. "Go on, sit down, make yourself at home."

Dean sat opposite her on the floor and crossed his legs as he watched her quill dance across the page leaving a trail of neat letters behind it. He watched every single bit of movement from her; the way she went to tuck a loose piece of hair behind her ear, the way she would pause occasionally and bite her bottom lip in concentration and the way her hair would change colours every now and then as she focused.

"Nice hair colour!" Dean smiled as Lucy's hair turned midnight blue. "It's so fascinating, I heard about this on the Islands but they told me it was to blind enemies or something..."

Lucy laughed as she looked up from finishing writing a sentence. "Thank you. But the colour means I'm tired."

"It does?"

"It does, according to whatever colour my hair is it's the emotion I'm feeling. The orb changes colour too according to my emotions, its like we're wired," Lucy shrugged and then returned to her work but then she paused mentally. It was as though a lot more made sense now. Lucy had never really understood why her hair changed colour but now she understood. She was given this power by the orb because it knew she had felt a lot more emotions more constant than her father or Shona. They had just felt sadness and loneliness, well they all had. But while Lucy experienced her trauma it was as though she'd felt the whole spectrum of emotions constantly, even the good one's like happiness because she had been happy when she was free.

Then Lucy realised something else, it seemed all very natural to her, Snape and Shona speaking to each other through their minds but it wasn't. This was one of the after effects of when she and Shona were transformed into animals in their third year. She remembered Shona's exact words: I just reversed the hex but couldn't get rid of it all. This was one of the effects of not reversing all of the hex, one was that they could turn into the animals that they were transformed into and the other was that they could read each others minds. It was just lucky that Shona didn't fix the whole hex because the powers they had received were rather useful.

"Is everything alright?" Dean asked, snapping her out of her daydream.

"Oh everything's — " Lucy began but was interrupted by a shriek from Dean. Lucy looked up from her work and found Angus circling Dean as he sat on the floor. Dean hugged his knees to his chest as Angus studied him just like Snape had.

"I hadn't heard about this member living with you!" Dean stuttered as he shook slightly.

"Don't suppose you have!" Lucy said in an amused tone. "Stroke his fur, he won't bite you, I promise."

"Nice kitty?" Dean asked as he reached out and stroked Angus' fur, in return the cat purred. "I guess he isn't so bad...what's his name?"

"Angus, I got him for my twelfth birthday. He's kept me company quite a bit when I needed someone there most."

"Don't you have a boyfriend?" Dean frowned. "I heard you did."

Lucy's throat tightened. "No, not anymore. We broke up in fifth year after I found out he was cheating on me...his name was Fred Weasley," Lucy whispered as Angus left Dean's company and crawled onto her lap demonstrating that he was there when she needed someone the most. "I was really sad to see him go but I suppose it doesn't matter. Things happen and there are plenty of fish in the sea as they do say."

Dean looked at her sadly and reached out his hand, Lucy took it. "Do you want to talk about it anymore?"

"Not really but it's nothing to worry about, it was a relationship that was not meant to last."

Suddenly Snape opened the door and both Dean and Lucy looked up at him and let go of each other's hands. "Mr Cousins, do you have a place to stay?"

"Yes," Dean said. "I have the guest rooms, Jessica helped me get one."

"I suggest you make your way their now as it's getting late, I can assure you that Lucy will be safe in my company," Snape assured as Dean stood up. "You can come here first thing tomorrow morning, if that is your wish, to escort Lucy to the great hall and to lessons."

"Thank you, Sir," Dean said as Snape left the room leaving Lucy and Dean alone again. Dean stood up and Lucy did too after placing Angus down. "I don't want to leave you..." he whispered sadly.

"You can see me tomorrow, I promise I'll still be here," Lucy assured. "I'm sure dad will even let you wake me up."

"OK," Dean waved. "Goodbye and goodnight!" Dean went to leave but Lucy stopped him.

"My bodyguard doesn't leave without a hug," Lucy outstretched her arms and as if it was a reflex action Dean walked forward but instead of accepting her hug, he gave her a bigger hug than she could ever manage. Lucy was surprised at how warm he was, she couldn't help but describe him as a happy puppy.

"I'll see you tomorrow," Lucy whispered but Dean wasn't letting go. "Dean," Lucy called. "Dean!"

"Huh?" He asked suddenly letting go of her. "Oh! I'm sorry! I-I was um...I'll see you tomorrow, bye!" He left the room quickly and closed the door behind him feeling a little embarrassed. Lucy shook her head but smiled as she gathered up her complete homework and placed it into her bag. She then took herself off to bed thinking how kind Dean was.

*      *      *

"Get up, Lucy! It's time to endure a fun day of school!" Dean grinned as he shook Lucy awake.

"Dad? Huh? What?" Lucy sat up in a confused manner where she saw Dean standing there happily. "Oh, Morning, Dean."

"Good Morning to you too! I asked your father if it was OK to get you up and he said it was fine!" Dean excused himself from the room as Lucy got changed and in the next minute they were making their way down to the great hall.

However, Lucy pulled him aside before they entered. "Just act natural, you might get a few stares when you enter but if I'm honest how often do you see someone with a bodyguard in a school?"

"You're right about that, but I'll act natural!" Dean held his head high and pushed open the doors and Lucy led him over to the Gryffindor table. Of course, they did gain a few stares which Dean didn't seem to even notice as they sat down to eat breakfast.

"Hey, Lucy! Hey, Dean!" Shona waved as the two grabbed themselves some breakfast.

"Good morning, Sebastian's descendant!" Dean waved back excitedly. "How are you on this fine morning?"

"Tired, I can't be bothered to go through lessons today..." Shona yawned. "I'd rather just crawl back into bed and sleep."

"But you have Defense Against the Dark Arts today!" Dean gasped. "It's your favourite subject!"

"I guess but Snape's — " Shona was about to begin her rant about Snape teaching her favourite subject when she stopped. "Wait, how do you know that?"

"I read Lucy's timetable and I know you are both in that class."

"You read my timetable?" Lucy frowned.

"I have to study everywhere you go for your safety, Miss!"

"Dean, just call me Lucy," Lucy laughed. "I'm not superior at all, I'd rather if you just treat me like any other person."

"Of course," Dean promised. "But you are superior and you're Merlin's descendant!"

"Dean."

"Sorry..."

Soon after breakfast Dean and Lucy headed off to Transfiguration with Shona. Of course they gained yet more stares as they sat down. Some people even commenting not so subtly about Dean's presence.

"Alright, enough questions!" McGonagall barked getting fed up of the constant chatter about poor Dean who still seemed unaffected by all of the attention. "Mr Cousins is with Lucy because he's her bodyguard — do not laugh — he is here to protect her from all the dangers."

"What, school children are the dangers?" One student called out, a few people laughed.

"There are more threats than you realise here," McGonagall snapped then got on with the lesson which although Dean wasn't participating in he seemed very interested in.

"Dean, aren't you bored?" Lucy asked as she took notes from the chalk board onto a scroll of parchment to use for future reference.

"No, not in the slightest! I love this so much! I've always wanted to hear about Wizard subjects! I only went into education for a little on the — " Dean paused and then lowered his voice. "Islands and this is so much better."

"OK, if you say so."

Lucy continued to take her notes from the board, feeling happier that Dean didn't feel bored which was one of her main concerns before she entered class. But she realised that Dean was very interested in magic as he had never really come across it and was enjoying learning about something he loved.

Later on at break Lucy and Shona sat in the main courtyard just hanging out like they usually did but of course they received much more staring now. While the two sat on the bench Dean was sat on the floor despite Lucy protesting that he could sit next to her but he seemed fine sitting on the floor daydreaming about living in the place he had longed to living. Hogwarts was his dream come true.

"What lesson have we got next?" Shona asked as she brushed something off of her trousers.

"We have Charms, I'm looking forward to Charms as we haven't had it yet," Lucy replied.

"Do we have Defense Against the Dark Arts afterwards?"

"Yes, we do and then we have — "

All of a sudden Dean lept up and stood with his arms outstretched in front of Lucy and Shona, his back was to them and it was as though he was enjoying the wind or something.

"Dean, what are you doing?" Lucy asked.

"I saved you from getting photographed!" Dean said as they noticed a sudden flash. "It's those pesky Quick Quills! I promise they won't get a picture of you, Lucy."

"Oh, Lucy!" An annoying high pitched voice called. "We want a picture of you!"

"Over my dead body!" Dean snarled.

Lucy stood up and took a risky peek around Dean and saw a Hufflepuff girl standing there, her golden locks twisted and turned in every direction and fell down to just below her shoulder blades. She lifted up her hand and wiggled her fingers as though this was her signature wave. She then held up her camera and was about to take another picture when Lucy hid behind Dean just in time.

"Can I speak with her?" The girl with the golden locks asked.

"No!" Dean snapped.

"Alright, I'll drop the camera," she placed the camera on the floor and then stepped over it. "How about now?"

"Drop your bag too!" Dean ordered pointing to where the camera was sat. The girl sighed and placed her bag by her camera and then stepped forward.

"Now can I speak with her?"

Dean studied her for a moment as though seeing if she had any more cameras or notebooks on her but he decided that she didn't. So, Dean stepped forward but still acted as a barrier between the girl and Lucy, he lowered his arms so that they could see each other.

"Lucy Snape, darling! How are you these days?" The girl laughed. "You're looking better than ever with those...plaits you've got there!" She gestured to her two plaits that just ended at her waist.

"Do I know you?" Lucy asked, giving the girl a look. She had a bad feeling about the girl and she wasn't far wrong when the girl introduced herself.

"Ellen Knightly, I run the Quick Quills newspaper and I'm just dying to get a picture of you for my latest article. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get any recent images of you and have had to invest in some old one's. It would be absolutely fabulous if I could get a new one of you to go into my newspaper."

Lucy frowned at her, Jessica had told Lucy about Ellen and in terms as a threat to the gifted she was code red. If Lucy was perfectly honest towards Ellen and the photograph she wanted, she wouldn't be giving anything to anyone who wanted to say bad things about her and then make money out of it.

"No thanks, I don't feel like having my picture taken," Lucy admitted. It was the truth; she never felt like having her picture taken.

"But you look absolutely stunning! Just one photograph will be enough for my — "

"She said she didn't want her photograph taken! Now scram!" Dean ordered.

"All I need is one photograph! It won't hurt the poor little lamb!"

"She said no!"

Lucy slipped on her robe as Ellen reached for her camera and bag, Dean then shielded Lucy as she ran off with her robes hood up. Shona followed them both all the way up to the seventh floor where they finally lost Ellen.

"Wow she's annoying," Shona moaned.

"You don't say," Lucy replied and lifted down her hood. "Is that really what it's going to be like at Hogwarts this year?"

"I hope not."

"I thought the security had tightened on this place?"

"I've heard about Ellen Knightly though, gets whatever she wants and won't be thrown out of school because of her little newspaper she's got going on."

"Lucy!" Dean called as he caught up seconds afterwards. "I don't think she got a picture of you! It was good thinking of you to put your robe on though, that way she couldn't see your face and get a decent picture."

"Thank you for protecting me, it's a good thing you have great reflexes," Lucy admitted. "I didn't even see her coming."

"I spotted her from miles off! Jessica told me all about her and how she's trouble and how I must protect you from especially her when she approaches. I'm glad I could successfully protect you from her."

"You did a great job, don't worry," Lucy smiled kindly as she took off her robe and shoved it into her bag.

Dean smiled back feeling very accomplished. Before, he had doubts if he could be a good bodyguard to the great Lucy Snape who was in fact Merlin's descendant.

But now he thought he'd proved his worth.
