Chapter 2
Ashton's POV
At lunch I sat down with my football friends and ate with them, when suddenly Emily pops into mind. I take a quick bite out of my sandwich before turning to my best friend, Luke asking about her.
"Do you know who Emily Baker is?" I asked, taking another bite out of the sandwich. He nodded slowly before asking,
"Yeah, why?" I scratched the back of my neck before mumbling,
"She's tutoring me in History." He smirked at me before turning to the guys.
"Hey, Ash over here's getting tutored by library girl." The guys burst out laughing, while I just sat confused.
"That girl has never seen the sun, she's always sitting in the library or reading a book." Josh laughed out. My face scrunched up, was she really that into learning and crap.
"Sucks to be you." Harry sniggered, patting my back. I hummed in agreement wondering what I got myself into, hearing more about 'library girl' during lunch.
---
It's now Monday, today I'll start my tutoring, and I'm sure I won't enjoy it. She would probably act all knowing and annoy the hell out of me.
That's why I mostly ignore my teachers, because they act like they know everything. I sigh, slamming my locker shut before heading to my class with Ms.Reagan.
Oh Joy
---
It was free period and I was supposed to head to the library to meet my tutor. I walk through the doors, people staring at me in confusion, because you rarely see me in one of these. I head towards the front desk to see the librarian busy with someone, but I couldn't tell who because their blonde hair was blocking their face. The librarian turned to point me out to the girl and she turned too, her hair whipping around.
She walked over to me, smile on her face with her arm extended.
"Hi, I'm Emily, you must be Ashton. Nice to me you." She said as I looked at her hand wearily before shaking it with mine.
"Likewise." I said following behind her as we headed to a different section of the library. We sat down at a table, next to each other and brought our bags out.
I grabbed my history book out as did she and we got started. My time with Emily was much more enjoyable than I expected, every time I seemed to struggle she just smiled and explained it in more detail. We actually got more done than I expected so we ended up finishing fifteen minutes before we had to leave for class.
"How about we play twenty questions?" I randomly suggested.
"Okay." She responded.
"Favorite color?" I asked
"Orange." She said pointing to her shoes,"favorite band?"
"All Time Low, how about you?"
"Fall Out Boy." She nodded sending me a smile, looking into my eyes, "Do you have any siblings?"
"Yeah, a younger sister and brother." I answered and she gasped, eyes lighting up.
"Lucky, I'm an only child." She says pouting and crossing her arms childishly. I only laughed making her laugh a bit too.
"So, a couple of my friends refer to you as 'Mr.Perfect', why is that?" She asked, using air quotes. I sighed, running a hand through my curls before answering her.
"Actually, I come from a pretty wealthy family, so everyone thinks I have good grades, play sports, and that I'm the perfect child. My parents alway expect me to be better than I am." I roll my eyes thinking about my dad and mom getting on my backs. "So how about your parents?" I asked.
"My dad's fine." She answered quickly. Okay, I guess it's a touchy subject, moving on.
"So, I recently heard to like to spend your time in the library?" I questioned her and she nodded extremely fast.
"Yeah the library is and amazing place, it's quiet, not to many people and most of all I love reading all the books." She exclaims, throwing her hands in the air. I scrunch up my face before looking at her.
"Really, you'd rather stay in her than go outside and play football or hang out with your friends." She gives me a pointed look, kind of telling me to shut up before, replying.
"First of all, I actually do hang out with my friends and second of all, you don't understand, I'm like a princess locked in her tower, but willingly. The library is my tower, why go outside and pointlessly kick a stupid ball when I could learn so many things." She says looking ing around the library. "So many books to read, so many things to learn and so much romance." She states plopping down into a bean bag chair across the room, a dreamy look on her face.
I walk over to her, sitting down on the beanbag chair next to her, smiling at her.
"Oh, but I do understand, it's the way I feel when I'm playing a sport. It's like I'm hooked, and I never want to stop. I just see reading as pointless when you can go out and experience it first hand." I say to her. Her facial expression changes, when she looks at me, she looks somewhat scared.
"But, the thing is, when you read a book, you get to experience it first hand, but you get both sides of the story, you understand what both people are feeling and you know what their thinking and most importantly why. That's why I'd rather read, because real life can hurt, hurt real bad." She says her lips pursed when she finishes.
I understand what she means but, I feel like there's a double meaning behind her words. I want to ask her what she meant but I realized we have only known each other for approximately forty-five minutes. Anyways the bell rings signaling that we both have to get to class soon. I hesitate before giving her a hug and saying goodbye and thank you. Leaving me to ponder her words.
What did Emily mean by life hurts, I've only met her once but she's already confusing me with her words of wisdom.
