Chapter 16. A Letter To A King

Her mission now was to save Narnia, but how? Angelina was confused, she had not the slightest idea of how to save an entire city, not to mention an entire country. She knew she needed help, Aslan's light was good, but how was she going to get to the battlefield, in order to save Narnia she would have to engage in battle. She couldn't even hold a sword steady in both her hands. By the looks of it, she was screwed, just like all of Narnia with her being the Keeper Of Light.

Walking down the halls of Cair Paravel, she found herself nearing the library. Knowing how good she was at finding books she needed with all the answers in them, Angelina slipped in quietly.

Opening the door widely, she hit someone who fell flat on the floor. "Ouch!" The girl exclaimed.

"Oh I am so terribly sorry!" Angelina grabbed her by the hand and pulled her to her feet.

"It's quite alright. No harm done at all, perhaps a minor concussion, but nothing I can't deal with. What are you doing here?" The girl said sarcastically and asked.

"I was just trying to find some interesting books to read, your majesty." Angelina realized who she almost killed with the door.

"No need for formalities, to you I am just Susan. What exactly are you looking for, perhaps I could help?" Susan asked, eyeing the Angelina who was not dressed in a beautiful Narnian dress but the clothes she came in, which were jeans and a shirt with a zipped up sweatshirt.

"Um, perhaps something on gardening?" She tried to hide her real reason.

Susan raised her eyebrow, reading through her lies instantly. "No you're not, who would be looking for a boring book like that? Tell me the real reason you're here." Susan leaned in and smiled. Although she had not had a proper conversation with her, Susan knew of Angelina's ambitious spirit.

"Okay, I need to find a way to save Narnia. Since Peter already knows who I am, I am assuming you do too."  Angelina confessed.

"You want to go out to war don't you?" Susan realized, ignoring Angelina's question. The young queen herself fancied battles over being locked up in a pretty castle with no action. The only action here was an occasional rumor or gossip. It was like Cair Paravel and the nobles who were there lived for slips of information that would turn into huge scandals. Although Susan would quite enjoy that life back in London, Narnia was much more than that to her. Her favorite place was becoming like her home, and she couldn't let that happen.

"Please don't tell anyone!" Angelina begged Edmund's sister.

"I won't don't worry. In fact, I will help you get to the battlefield if you take me with you." Susan extended her hand to make a deal with the girl.

Angelina didn't know if it was the right thing to do, but she wanted nothing more than to go to wherever the battle was so she could finally save Narnia. She extended her hand for Susan to shake and they had a deal. Susan explained to her that the next morning they would be on their way to the seas.

"Why the seas?" Angelina asked.

"Because that is where the Narnian ships are, ready to go to the land that is ruled by the white witch's dark powers," Susan explained.

"But I thought the white witch was dead?" Angelina asked again, still confused.

"She is, but her powers are still strong." Susan started walking back towards the doors of the library on her way out. "Evil has a bad habit of dying slowly."

Thinking for a minute, that maybe defeating the witch's powers would be the way to save Narnia, Angelina made her way back to her room. She decided to not pack anything she didn't need, knowing that if she returns alive and goes back home she would take all the things with her. Home seemed such a distant thing to her now, she got to know so many people she called her friends, especially Edmund. Him she couldn't really pin down, he was something so different. She knew that she was already falling for his white teeth smile and brown eyes. His entire demeanor had her soul, his brown hair, and pale skin. More and more she found herself thinking of him, "finally you find the perfect guy, and again it's impossible to be with him." She said to herself, knowing that both of them were from different worlds. He was from the 1940s and she was from the 2000s. Realizing that a romance would be impossible, though it was already blooming, Angelina decided to just continue her mission and ignore whatever butterflies she felt when he was around. She was good at ignoring her feelings, only wishing that she could do it as skillfully this time.

That night she couldn't sleep, the thought of Edmund didn't give her any rest. Every time she would close her eyes, his smile and his laugh would come to mind. He was completely perfect, one touch and he would crumble. The crinkles by his eyes were so vivid in her mind that it was as if he was right there beside her. Imagination is very detailed, especially when one wants it to be.

Getting up from her bed, Angelina decided to deal with this insomnia the way she knew best, by writing. Instantly, she got a piece of paper out and a feather that was given to her to write with. Starting out with two simple words sent her into a writer's block of wanting to put everything she felt out on paper, and not knowing what to say at all.

"Dear, Edmund..."

She decided to say everything, everything that was on her mind and what she thought. Confessing that she did in fact care for him deeply, but how hard it would be for them because of the century difference. Not forgetting to mention that he was the only person she met whom she trusted completely and wanted to know more and more. Mentioning that she wished they could spend more time together, Angelina ended with. "I do love you. Perhaps I don't know how to say it out loud and on paper, it looks safer, but I do love you."

"Spare no detail!" Conscience exclaimed, reading some of the letters.

Angelina hid it, "Hey, that's private information!"

He sighed, "I am in your head, how do you expect to keep things from me?"

"Will I ever get any privacy?" She rolled her eyes.

Conscience laughed, "of course, unless you need my advice on solving something, I pop up naturally."

She slammed her hands on the table, "you are the most annoying thing in the world, I don't need advice, I got this."

He snapped his fingers, "as you wish." Conscience disappeared under some grey smoke that he made appear, probably for theatrical and dramatic sake.

This letter she did not put into the box, this letter she kept close to her heart as she fell asleep and waited in her dreams as he would come back riding Philip into the sunset. Instead of dreaming of a beautiful sunset, however, she dreamed of a dark cave and searching for someone.

Getting out of the cave and into the light, seeing an ocean right in front of her made Angelina smile, it has been a while since she has seen a proper ocean. Suddenly, a hand took hers pulling her away from the edge of the cliff from which she saw the ocean. The person who pulled her away was blurry, she could barely see who it was through all the fog that surrounded them. Still, she managed to recognize as his soft hand caressed her cheek, as his pale face came closer and closer into view, mere inches away from her own face.

"What are you dreaming of?" He asked, his face now completely visible to her.

"You," Angelina spoke quietly as if trying not to scare the king of justice standing in front of her.

"Is this all it is, only a dream?" She suddenly asked, looking around them at the forest which surrounded their bodies.

"I am afraid so, it is merely a dream," Edmund answered, conscious of their surroundings. But he did not look around like her.

He didn't let go of her hand, letting his other one slide down her face to her shoulders. She closed her eyes trying to remember this moment forever, gluing it in her mind, as his hands ran down her neck.

"Perhaps, this could be reality too?" He asked, his own eyes closed now as she opened hers.

"But it can't," Angelina took a step back from him, "we can't, we are from two different centuries, it is impossible. I can't be falling in love with you." She shook her head, denying everything.

"Yet, here you are, falling in love with me. And yet, and yet I wonder how much it would take for you to say it, to tell me." This dream Edmund did not act as the real Edmund would, he would not know what to say in a situation like this, or perhaps he would. Bold and daring, is what he was like in her subconscious.

"You are a king of Narnia and I am just a girl from nowhere who doesn't know how the hell she ended up here." Angelina laughed to herself, realizing how silly she sounded.

"I am a king of Narnia, and you are the prophesied savior. Try to believe in yourself a little bit, you never know what you can achieve." He leaned his head to the side, trying to understand her.

"I'm not right for you. You need a queen who is perfect and looks perfect, and knows exactly what to say." She shook her head again, trying to argue with her dream.

"You are beautiful, I don't see why you ever say such things." Edmund furrowed his eyebrows.

"Gosh, you are like my conscience." Angelina turned to him, but he was already gone. As much as she hated conscience, she realized that he was just the manifestation of something she already had in her head, just know he could physically talk and have a body. For a second she wondered where exactly he had gotten his features, why specifically that face. He seemed familiar. She was left alone in her dream forest until a sudden shake woke her up.

"Get up, it's time to go!" Susan spoke loudly, already dressed in her armor with her bow behind her.

Angelina groaned and picked up the letter from the bed, dressing up and walking out of her room with Susan leading them outside. She stuffed the letter into her bag, keeping it safe from the eyes of the world. The journey ahead of them would be long, and they both would have to take horses to get around through half of Narnia to the sea. Susan knew exactly where they had to go and what they had to do. Angelina patiently followed the Queen, besides Susan knew way more about Narnia and traveling around it since she had done it so many times. Of course, Angelina felt bad that they weren't telling Peter anything, he would probably be worried about both of them. However, there was not much she could do, Peter was holding her back, she had to go and follow her destiny. The confidence of Aslan inside of her trumped whatever doubt evil tried to plant in her heart.
