A home with a heart (pt1)
(back into IshiMondo and KawoShin and obsessively playing Mystic Messenger. Also, sorry, but it's a crossover. No spoilers though so ^^)
In hindsight, I suppose what I was doing could be considered "lurking". But, I had knocked and no one answered so I suppose all blame can't be placed on me. Now I understood why several members of the former class 78 had said it was a great place with an even better roommate.
I watched as a man with only a shade darker hair than my own gracefully moved his hands about the piano. He sat straight, looking to the instrument with half lidded eyes. He had the eyes of pure joy and pleasure as he played something much too complex for me to even attempt with my single year of practice under my belt. After what felt like hours of the most relaxed performance I've ever seen, the man gradually fell into a decrescendo. As his notes fell silent he stood. He hummed a notes to a separate song before speaking up "It is a pleasure to meet you, Nagito Komaeda."
His eyes were filled with the same joy and calmness, but the harsh crimson of his eyes made the effect almost nonexistent. In response to the silence on my end, he closed the book on the piano. I was more stunned at the sudden polite greeting than the sharpness of his eyes or the smoothness of his voice. As he stepped over to me I found my words "I have trouble believing it's been a pleasure, But-" I froze as he took my hand and set something in it. I looked to the key in my hand as he put his hands in his pockets. Three keys hung on the ring and said ring was attached to a lanyard with intricate blue, orange, and purple patterns on it. The lanyard read "Nerv Security Corporation" on it and a small tag on it read my own name. "You may change it if you want to. I simply had a spare with me and thought i might as well put it to a good use." "What are the other two for?" He smiled, and it seemed oddly catlike "This is to the mailbox, and this unlocks all the rooms in apartment." He explained. That explained one wasn't even technically a key. It was really just a small metal rod with a whole for the ring on the end.
"I've barely said much of anything and yet your already being so nice." I noted, making his smile stretch into a grin as he laughed. "I'll be living with you now after all. One mustn't start a relationship based off of aggression. It's small, but let me show you the place." He offered, snatching up one of my boxes in one hand and a bag in the other. After I got through the initially surprise of the fact that I was basically living with an angel of a man, I followed after him. "I assume you could see the kitchen from the door so it's not really interesting from this point on. On your left is the bathroom and our rooms are at the end. You get the one on the right there. And to warn you, the sun comes in through that room in the morning so I can give you black out curtains if you would like." As he spoke, he led me into the room. He set down my things before freezing. "I need to go get the laundry. You can get unpacked without me I'm sure?" He raised a brow at me and I gave him a nod. "You don't need to help me. I don't want to be an inconvenience." "Even if you did, I wouldn't think you would be." He said pointedly before quickly leaving him. He stared at the door for a moment, questioning why the other acted like, in the simplest terms, an actual angle.
Kaworu stepped into the cramped room, humming once again. He tilted his head at the man sitting on the table in front of the dryers. "I assume the clothes belonged to you then?" He questioned, scaring the other. The brunette on the table pulled out his headphones quickly and pressed a button on his tape recorder. "Y-yes, i came down when I remembered but someone put them in for me..." Kaworu smiled at him as he stepped closer. He set his basket down on the machine as he smiled over his shoulder at the other "I wanted to make sure they were dried before they began to wrinkle. I hope you don't mind." The brunette's eyes widened at this "Not at all! I-I mean... I really appreciate it. Thank you." Kaworu chuckled at the others reverent thanks. "It's truly not a problem. I set out to help people however I can when I can." The other babbled, trying to find his words and get them back from whatever void they had went off to. Kaworu simply turned back to the machine and pulled out his clothes. "I was wondering something though." "What?" The other asked, moving up next to him. "Why did you sew your name into some of the shirts you had?" He looked to the other, brow raised. The other blushed, chuckling as he rubbed his neck
"Ah, well, this girl I work with steals my shirts all the time to mess with me, that and I do me and my roommate's laundry so it's easier that way." "You have a roommate?" "Yeah! After I moved in I was struggling so I put up an offer and I was kind of worried but he actually turned out being a great guy!" Kaworu couldn't help but to chuckle at the way the other's face lit up when he spoke "I'm glad things worked out well for you. I actually just met my new roommate today." "Really?" He nodded, lifting up his now full basket. "He was quite sweet, albeit a tad shaky, but that can be forgiven." "What's his name?" "Komaeda Nagito. Kaworu Nagisa" "That's a long name." The shorter noted stupidly. Kaworu laughed joyfully at this "No, no. It's just Komaeda. My name is Kaworu Nagisa." The smaller blushed again, hiding his face in his hands. "Oh my god, that was so stupid. I'm sorry Kaworu." Kaworu pulled the others hands away from his face "It's fine, Shinji-kun."
Shinji paused, as if he wanted to say something but the words were lost to him. He stared into Kaworu's eyes. Somehow, when he smiled like that, it made the harsh color gentler. Something about the look felt weird, it gave him a sense of Deja vu. It was a warm familiar feeling, something from a memory he had long forgotten. Kaworu released him and slipped past him, cooing a soft "It was a pleasure to finally meet you, Shinji Ikari." Before he left the poor boy stranded, dazed and confused in the laundry room.

I lifted up the last three boxes. It must have been another stroke of incredible luck to get such a convenient place and gentle of a roommate. It's beyond me how much my bullshit powers let me get away with. I know that eventually though it will balance itself out though. It would be a shame if anything happened to Kaworu. Even if I had known him for only twenty minutes, I don't think I'd want anything bad to happen to him. He seemed too good to deserve some of the things I've had to gone through.
I frowned as I opened the door, praying that nothing bad would happen to anyone here because of my bullshit powers. I sighed as I set the boxes down on the floor. It was never good to go down this train of thought. I should be grateful towards my angel of a roommate. I would be homeless without him.
"What took you so long with the laundry Shinji? It's been twenty minutes." I must have spoke too soon.
A brunette stepped out of the kitchen and stared at me with slack jaw. I put my hand up in resemblance of a weak wave. "Who?" "I'm so sorry. I just moved in and must have miscounted doors. I'll leave now. I'm sorry." I apologized quickly, scrambling to pick up the boxes. It was bad luck but not like how it usually was, which confused me. I put that aside however as I tried to escape with some dignity left. "Wait," I looked to him, or at least as well as I could with boxes blocking my vision "um- would... would you like some help. I'll feel bad if you fall down the stairs in such a rush." The other explained, rubbing the back of his neck. "I mean, I know you shouldn't just say yes to strangers but, you were the one who came into my house." At this, I gave him a weak smile "That's true. I'll try to keep breaking in to a minimum from now on." The tension disappeared as he laughed heartily "Good idea." He came over and scooped up one of my boxes. I stared at him thoughtfully, confused as to what I did to seem in need of help. Shouldn't he be angry?
He looked at me expectantly "what?" "I asked you which apartment you had." This was just getting better and better wasn't it? "Sorry, it's A5." He grinned at this "Well then, nice to meet you neighbor." "What?" "We're A4. It's good to meet you neighbor." I faked a giggle at this. Was there a single bad human being in this building?
I led him to the next door, boping it open with his hips. "You even have the little succulents." He chirped, laughing heartily. “That’s so precious.” He complimented. I smiled at my feet, trying to hide the flustered feeling hearing that gave me. “I don’t really think I’m precious per say.” “Please, you accidentally walked into my house on your first day and you have the most aesthetic plant in the internet's eyes on your windowsill. Plus, you have little cats drawn on your hands.” I glared as he teased me. I quickly headed into my room with him following close behind. “I don’t think you should see someone like me as cute.” “I didn’t say you were cute. I said you were precious.” I stopped midway through pulling out my clock from the box to look at him. Despite my pale, shocked face, he was grinning gently at me, like he was seeing a child accomplishing a big goal. “Were you trying to do reverse psychology to get me to call you cute?” I blushed as the assuring smile turned into a shit eating grin. “Don’t call me that.” ‘What? Cute, precious, a sweet cinnamon bun who could do no wrong?” I hummed over him as he spoke, trying to not die from embarrassment right there. He rolled his eyes as he set the box down on my bed “I’m just messing with you neighbor.” “It’s Komaeda, Nagito Komaeda.” I corrected. He held his hand out to me “Hajime Hinata”
I grabbed his hand and shook it gently. "Do you really still use handshakes?" I joked. He snorted "It's a habit from work. I'm sorry." I waved it off, opening the second box. "Don't worry, I've definitely gotten weider greetings today." I frowned at the thought of the tense awkwardness that filled the air at me and Kaworu's first words to one another.
"Oh really?" I bristled as he stepped up to me, helping pull things out of the boxes. "I'd tell you about it, but shouldn't you get back to your place?" He scoffed "Shinji will be fine. Just consider this getting to know one another." I looked him up and down once he finished. His stance was sturdy, there wasn't going to be any swaying him. "Alright, but don't hesitate to leave if you need to." "And miss out on a story from you?" I giggled at him, gently punching his arm. "You act like a child."

Hinata squeaked as he bumped into another man. "Sorry!" He said quickly before heading back to his own door, mumbling something about his luck and thanks towards "whatever being was out there". Kaworu smiled gently when he heard the door click behind Hinata. It was his first day and he had already gained the attention of their neighbor. Maybe he'd have to watch out for him more than he had originally that he would have...
