Sight
"So, I started working on this after I finished the update to your helmet to cover your eye," Pidge began as she shuffled through her things with Ceila, Keith and Lance a few feet away. "It's so of kinda like Shiro's arm, that's where I got my inspiration, except it's Altean blue and you can see slash observe with it rather than slice robots in half with it. It just attaches- shit!- to where your eye would be- quiznak!- and I- Ceila could you grab that?- I am almost done, but I got caught up in some other things- damnit, I thought it wasn't finished!- so it's taking longer than originally thought- shit!- but it's totally safe to- Ceila dump this wire; it's totally fried- safe to try on. A-ha!" She leapt up from the other side of the table, holding up a curved, triangular shaped device large enough to cover the eye and the surrounding area. "Found it!" Pidge scuttled back through her messy work, a big grin on her face as she waved her project. "I got just a few things to do to it before you can use it twenty-four/seven, but you can test it out."
Lance carefully took the device, Ceila skipping up beside him. "Here, let me help," she hummed and reached up.
Keith twitched and suppressed a growl as the Altean unwrapped Lance's bandages. The red paladin flinched as the scar was uncovered. Keith wanted to look away but he couldn't.
Ceila took the device from Lance's hand and pressed it over the scar. Lance winced and hissed under his breathe. "Ow..."
Pidge pulled over a box she used as a stool and stood on it to press the device. "It latches on- which is what that was- and analyzes. It's loading up now. When it's activated, it'll be like looking out of a robot's eye. Zoom in, zoom out, I'm currently working on linking it to your bayard for better aim- though I doubt you need it with how good of a shot you already are. There, you should be able to start seeing any second... Close your right eye." Lance nodded and closed his eyes. Pidge reached out and beckoned Keith over.
Keith was slightly puzzled but stepped closer until Pidge told him to stop. He was jerked and tugged on until he stood directly in front of Lance, facing him. "Why am I-?"
"Shush, shush!" Pidge chided, lightly punching his arm. "You'll ruin the surprise!"
Lance's brow furrowed. "It's... Still dark... Wait, it's fuzzy..."
Pidge nodded, touching Lance's arm. "It'll take a while. I haven't tested it before, so it may take longer than expected." Lance slowly nodded. Pidge's wide and gleaming eyes were on the device as it flickered every-so-often.
Lance's breath hitched as the device flashed. "Whoa!" He jumped, trying hard to keep his eye closed. "Whoa- I just-! I saw- I saw! It-it was a flash, then fuzzy, but I saw something!"
Pidge nodded, grinning as she put her hands on her hips. "Aren't I a miracle worker? Make the blind see again."
Ceila giggled at Pidge. "I don't know what 'blind' means, but you really are a miracle worker."
"It means, unable to see." Pidge told the Altean. "Is it clearing, yet?"
"Yeah..." Lance nodded. "A little bit. It's fuzzy, but I can kind of make out silhouettes... Keith?" Said paladin gulped and took Lance's reaching hand. "When did you get in front of me?"
A shaky smile grew on Keith's lips. "Just a tic ago."
Lance smiled and leaned in. His coordination was slightly off, so Keith lead him the rest of the way for a sweet kiss.
Pidge 'whoop'd while Ceila cooed at the 'public display of cute human affection.'
Both paladins smiled as they pulled apart. "You're still blurry, but I can tell it's you," Lance murmured, threading his finger's through Keith's as the device's blue glow brightened.
"I'm gonna call it Lae. Or L.A.E." Pidge stated, firmly nodding. The confused stares were all she needed to give them an answer to their unasked questions. "Lance's Artifical Eye."
Lance hummed, then flinched back. "Ouch... I think it just zapped me."
Pidge bounced back onto the stool, (not-so)gently pushing Keith out of the way. "Yeah, it does that. Another thing I gotta work on." She tapped the L.A.E. and caught it as it detached itself from Lance. Ceila was quick to re-cover Lance's scar with the bandages. "I have to figure out what it is first, though."
Lance quietly thanked Pidge and Ceila, then turned to Keith. "Wow... That was so cool!" His blue eye sparkled gleefully as he took Keith's hands. "I'm going to be able to fully see again, Keith!"
The red paladin couldn't help but smile back. "I'm so glad."

Lance glowed as he strutted through the halls. He stayed at a slow pace to stay beside Keith and keep ahold of his hand, but he looked ready to burst in joy. Keith knew Lance wasn't just excited about seeing from both eyes again, but he was happy Pidge was doing this for him and making it really cool without him asking.
Keith was stopped by Sam in the hallway, so he told Lance to keep going. "You skipped breakfast this morning, so go eat." Keith muttered, shooing Lance. The blue paladin pouted, but kissed his forehead before leaving.
Samuel chuckled. "I'm glad you were able to find love, Keith." Keith shrugged, but nodded. "I need to ask you something, though."
"Sure." Keith met Samuel's eyes. "What is it?"
The older man sighed, threading his fingers through his hair. "Your mother... I never knew what happened to her. We were close, then Thace left and I saw less and less of her. Last I saw you, you a year-and-a-half, aside from the funeral. That was the last I saw her."
The red paladin gulped and licked his lips. "She... Became sick. When I was five. By the time I was seven, I had to take care of her. Mom could hardly get out of bed. If she wanted to go outside, I had to be right there with her." Keith sighed, messing with his jacket. "She died one night when I was fourteen."
Samuel nodded. "I remember the funeral."
Keith clenched his jaw. "She put everything she had left to get me into the Garrison, and I blew it. I was angry and upset. I lost mom, the only person I really knew, and I destroyed her dream of me becoming a pilot all because some kid said that I was a lonely orphan that could never have friends or family."
Samuel reached over and grabbed Keith's shoulders. "It's okay. You fulfilled her dream. You're one if the best five pilots throughout the entirety of the known universe." Keith looked up. "You're the pilot of the red lion. Your mother is very proud of you. I know she is. And I know Thace is proud of you."
Keith dropped his head and nodded. "Yeah..."
"Go eat." Samuel ruffled Keith's hair. "I don't want the others to be worried about you. Besides, you need to put some meat on those bones." He pinched Keith's cheek, taking the younger by surprise as he grinned. "You ain't a thing like you used to be!"
"Hey!" Keith swatted Samuel away and glared. "I'm not a child!"
Samuel laughed heartily, hands on his hips. "I know, I know, kid." He waved his hand and turned as he left. "Go eat."
