Chapter Thirty – One ~ Avada Kedavra!
“I’m going to kill them!” Colm cursed loudly as he followed behind Blaise and Pansy. Malfoy Manor was a goddamn maze and Merlin only knew what Amélie, Draco and Ginny were doing right now! Damn Draco for running off with Amélie. She better not be hurt! Ginny better not be hurt! He thought angrily and he realized oddly enough that now, it didn’t hurt as much to think of Draco and Ginny in the same thought. The pain was receding. He wondered why sarcastically as his eyes drifted towards the dark haired witch running in front of him.
Pansy Parkinson was a crazy woman. So much that it blew his mind but dammit right now was not the time to be thinking about this! Ginny and Amélie were in danger. But who really gave a crap about Draco? He rolled his eyes mentally; the man was like a goddamn cockroach, he never died.
“Are we almost there?” Thomas asked as he tried to keep up. Colm looked at his younger brother. He could tell that Thomas was really worried, it was written all over his face; worried sick about Amélie and Ginny, as well. They were family.
Colm sighed as he looked at all the others’ faces. Jeff was nervous and the British Minister looked as if he was in deep thought. He wondered what the older man was thinking as they turned a corner and a blown door came into view.
“That’s it up ahead!” Blaise called out before he turned into the room. “Holy sh –” he was saying when Thomas tackled him to the ground to prevent a spell from hitting him straight in the face. The two of them stayed on the ground for a second, staring into the ballroom then they both cursed and rolled to the other side of the door frame as a green light flew in their direction.
“What the hell is going on?” Pansy yelled to the two of them as she leaned against the wall; Colm, Rìona, Jeff and the Minister doing the same.
“A crazy battle,” Blaise yelled back.
“Who’s dueling?” The Minister asked.
“Draco and his father,” Blaise answered after peeking.
“Just them two? For all these damn spells?” Jeff wondered out loud.
“No… I think I see… Ginny and Chang going at it; it looks pretty brutal.” Blaise added as he watched them two of them.
“No! That’s not Ginny! That’s Amélie!” Thomas growled as he caught sight of his girlfriend fighting that madwoman. “What the hell is she thinking?”
“Weasley’s not dead but she looks pretty hurt and there’s a lot of blood,” Pansy peeked as well and then gasped, “Oh my Merlin, that’s Narcissa! What is she doing here?”
“Someone else?” Rìona asked her accent thick with worry. “Only Ginny was on the floor. This must be why she’s alive. It must be! Ginny, alive, thank the Heavens!” She cried.
“Amélie! Goddammit!” Thomas cursed as he looked just in time to see Amélie dodge the killing curse. “I can’t just stand by and watch this,” he growled before he ran into the room.
“Thomas!” Colm yelled and looked into the room to see Thomas run towards Ginny and the blond woman.
“If we go carefully, we can make it to Ginny and Narcissa safely.” Blaise told them. “You first Pansy,” he instructed. Pansy looked out, saw that it was safe and then made a run for it. Rìona, Jeff and the British Minister went after. “Now you, Colm, go ahead.” Blaise looked and nodded towards him.
“No, you go.” Colm told him.
“Just go, lover boy. I’ll be fine back here. I’ve gotta stay outside the fighting zone. My man is waiting for me and we have very important future plans. I gotta make it back so, I’ll stand guard here and make certain none of them try to escape.” Blaise explained.
Colm nodded then ran into the ballroom and felt like he was running through a war zone even though there were only four people fighting, the others standing by watching, afraid to cut in and distract their party; the consequences could be deadly. He made it to the group to see Rìona whispering to Ginny who had her arms around the tall, blond woman. She was an older lady and had a striking resemblance to Draco. It must be his mother, Colm thought as he looked back towards the two fights.

“You are frustratingly dodging all of my attacks by an inch. Why don’t you just die already?” Lucius asked after his Cruciatus curse just barely missed Draco.
“Same goes for you, old man.” Draco hissed as he threw the Killing curse at him.
Lucius dodged.
“Draco, Draco, Draco…” Lucius started then threw the Killing curse right back at him. Draco dived to his left, the curse singeing his hair. “Dead yet?” He asked.
“Not yet,” Draco replied and sighed, he was growing tired of this. He looked over at Ginny and almost sighed with relief as he noticed that everyone else had caught up and Ginny and his mother were finally safe. He had been afraid to really attack because if he moved away from the spot he had been in, Lucius would have easily attacked the two women. But with reassurance that even though Ginny was weak, she was protected; now, he could truly attack.
And with that thought, he disappeared from the floor and came to a stop in front of his father. Lucius gasped and Draco slapped away his wand, instantly deciding that what Lucius really need was a swift arse kicking and would do just that.
He pulled back his fist and punched his father as hard as he could on the jaw. The power of that punch landed Lucius on his back, groaning as he nursed his jaw.
“What’s this?” The man asked as he spit blood onto the floor. “Resorting to barbaric Mudblood fighting?”
“They certainly know how to kick someone’s arse.” Draco replied as he kicked Lucius in the ribs.
Lucius rolled over and out of Draco’s kicking range. He got to his feet and swung at Draco who dodged him easily. Lucius swing again and nothing until Draco heard a cry from Amélie and he turned just a bit and that was all the distraction Lucius needed. He tackled Draco to the ground and couldn’t miss at such close proximity; landing punch after punch to his face, to his ribs. Unfortunately for Draco, he was winded and disoriented for a second but he caught himself, righted himself; but luckily for him, he had speed on his side and landed a punch while Lucius pulled back for one more. With its speed, it had enough force to knock the man over and Draco was back on his feet.
Lucius got to his a second later.
“Yes, I can see the interest in this Mudblood fighting. It’s all about power. I can understand that.” Lucius nodded as he wiped blood from his lip.
“Yes, power is important but if you’re slow, you’re dead.” Draco told him as he ran to his father, completely undetectable and grasped the man’s neck, lifting his legs from the ground.
“Ah, this again,” Lucius tried to roll his eyes but he was losing oxygen from Draco’s death grip around his neck. “Well, I can’t let this go on… any… longer,” he muttered, out of breath.
“Can’t let it go on any longer? I don’t think you quite grasp the situation you’re in here, Father.” Draco snorted, shaking his head as he tightened his grip.
“I taught you better, Draco,” Lucius responded sounding truly disappointed and Draco froze as he felt something press against his neck. “You are so much better than this. Well, that’s unfortunate. I’ll make this all right. Imperio!” Lucius ordered and Draco felt the curse overtake him.
NO! His mind yelled but it was too late.
“Release me, now.” Lucius ordered and Draco had no choice but to do just that, placing him back on the ground and removing his hand from around Lucius’ neck. Lucius rubbed his neck and exhaled loudly. “Perfect, just perfect; it’s going to leave a bruise. Oh well, let’s get things in order. I’m growing tired of all this nonsense.”
Naturally, regardless of what Draco was being made to do, he felt such a wonderful feeling as if he was floating and every thought and worry in his head was being swept away gently, leaving nothing but a vague, untraceable happiness and feeling so immensely relaxed, only dimly aware of everyone except for Amélie and Cho watching him. He couldn’t entirely hear what they were saying; all he really heard was Lucius’ voice ordering him to walk towards the crowd as he felt a wooden stick jab into his neck though he tried not to think about it. It was kind of painful and all he wanted was to feel good, happy and not worry about a thing. To feel so light and burden free, that would be truly fantastic.
“Come along, Draco. Some people are waiting for you.” Lucius’ voice came through the fog of happiness and relaxation.
He felt himself being led towards the group and he vaguely noticed that all their wands were pointed at him. Why would they do that? Couldn’t they see how happy and relaxed he was? Why would they ruin that for him?
“No, don’t hurt him!” He heard Ginny’s voice but why would they hurt him? He was better than great. He was perfect. And everything was so perfect, so fantastic. He’d never felt like this before… well, maybe a time or two though he couldn’t entirely remember when.
“Stupefy them, except for your mother and Ginny Weasley.” Lucius whispered into his ear. He nodded and watched as one by one they all collapsed, stupefied.
Somewhere in his mind he wondered why they didn’t defend themselves, why would he even do something like this to them? He thought they were friends; he realized.
A red strand blew into the mist surrounding him and it landed on his shoulder; he reached for it and it was so unbelievably soft.
“Draco…” his mother’s voice called to him but he was so gone in his happy place.
“Draco, I reckon now is a good time to put your mother to sleep. She must me tired.” Lucius’ voice whispered softly and Draco had no choice but to agree. Yes, mother must be so tired. So much has happened over the years, so very much. Poor mother, he thought sadly.
“Draco, no, don’t do this –” his mother’s voice tried to break through the fog and he couldn’t stop wondering why she sounded frantic but he heard himself mutter the spell that put her in a bewitched sleep. She would feel better when she woke up, that’s for sure.
“Now, let us get on with the final act of the show!” He heard Lucius laugh then clap his hands.
He didn’t know they were watching a show! What show would that be? Had he missed the beginning? It’s such a shame that he missed so much already. Oh well, he sighed as a rush of warmth flushed over him.
“Time to kill the little vixen,” Lucius informed him.
To kill the little vixen? He frowned, to kill someone… whoa, wait, that wasn’t part of the plan but his hand was moving of its own accord, his wand pointing at Ginny. No, no, wait! He didn’t want to kill Ginny!
“Kill her. Kill Ginny Weasley.” Lucius instructed.
Draco’s wand brushed against Ginny’s bloodstained shirt; blood, her blood that Lucius had caused. Lucius had almost killer her. He had saved her. He had saved Ginny. So, why would he kill her now? He thought but the warmth was wrapping tighter around him.
He loved Ginny! Why would he want to kill her?
“Draco, no stop,” Ginny’s soft voice pleaded.
“Kill her, Draco. Now!” Lucius voice order.
The fog was so thick now, suffocating him. He couldn’t breathe the harder he fought it. He was under some spell. He had to be. He would never, ever, hurt Ginny.
“Avada Ked –” he started to say when another voice broke through the fog.
“No, dad, no, you can’t! We just got you back! You can’t do it!”
And it was all the additional resistance he needed. Amélie’s voice amped his fight as suddenly he could see clearly, he was free. He was free from the Imperious curse. His father had almost made him kill Ginny but he’d broken through. He fought it and he had won. He was free!
“No, you die, Father.” Draco spun around, jabbed his wand into Lucius’ chest on his heart and with all the fury, betrayal, pain as he could muster up, he whispered “Avada Kedavra!” as he stared into his father’s eyes, his eyes, his daughter’s eyes and watched the life extinguish from behind them.
