Chapter 27- I'm in paradise whenever i'm with you
A few weeks later
Links POV
"Are you sure they signed everything off?" I grabbed the bags at the end of the hospital bed. Rhett was sitting on the hospital bed, his feet dangling just above the clean floorboards.
"Yeah the nurses checked all of my vitals and I'm due back in a couple of weeks to see how I'm getting on." I looked at his body. Rhett was wearing shorts and a tank top as one of his arms and one of his legs was in a cast. There was little scratch marks all along his body where splinters had dug into his skin from the fallen wood.
"At least I finally get get you home. No more sleepless nights by myself. Both of our moms have been worried sick about you." He grabbed my hand and gripped it tightly. He twiddled the engagement ring around my finger.
"Now we just need to start planning our dream wedding." He smiled at me, laughing softly to himself. "Can you imagine us both? Matching tuxedos, our parents giving us away, a fancy honeymoon abroad?"
The thought of all of that brought a smile to my face, something I hadn't done in the weeks following what had happened.
"Sounds wonderful. Now let me get all of your bags and we can get you to the car." I grabbed the wheelchair from the corner of the room and wheeled it over to the bed.
"Do you need a hand?" I went to hold his arm.
"It's ok. I think I can manage..." I watched as he pulled himself onto the edge of the bed and then gently lower himself onto the chair. I placed the bags on top of him and pushed him out of the room. I wheeled him through the hospital until we finally reached the entrance. He took a big deep breath of fresh air.
"It feels like I've been trapped inside that hospital for ages..." I gripped his hand tightly.
"You'll be fine....it'll just take some time."
Later
Rhetts POV
"Why are we driving this way? This isn't the way back to our house..." we had been driving for a while.
"I didn't tell your parents that you were getting out today. I thought it would be a nice surprise..." I smiled. I reached over and tried to hold his hand but it was hard with my cast.
"It's a great idea...they'll have no idea." We drove for a little while longer before finally reaching the house. Link ran out of the car and grabbed the crutches that the hospital had provided for me. We walked up to the front door. Link leant over and rang the doorbell, quickly turning to fix my hair that was sticking up at all angles.
"You need a trim...I smiled at him. We heard the door click and quickly turned round. My mom opened the door, her eyes opened wide.
"Hello!" She flapped at us, squeezing us both tightly with her arms.
"Hey mom..." I kissed her cheek, hugging her back as tight as I could. I limped through to the living room to find my dad asleep in his chair. I tapped him and he opened his eyes. He jumped up in joy in seeing me.
"It's so happy to see you boys are all ok." I walked through to where the barbecue had been thrown through the windows. My parents had obviously hired some builders as a brand new window had been installed but most of the walls were still singed black and the wallpaper was peeling away from the wall.
"We've hired a decorator to completely redo the kitchen and the hallway." My mum walked up next to me. "Maybe I can finally decorate the house the way I want to...always hated that wallpaper anyways..." she chuckled softly.
"It's fine mom. We can help pay for the renovations for you." I walked through to the living room to see Link and my father sitting close together.
"What are you two whispering about?" Link smiled and stood up. He had a smallish blue box in his hand.
"I felt bad that you don't have an engagement ring yet but I have something to give to you...." he opened the box to reveal a ruby and sapphire encrusted ring.
"It was your grandfathers. He gave it to me to give to my son when he got married. But since you bought link his ring I thought my son in law could use it for you..." my father said from his seat in the corner. I smiled as link slid the ring onto my finger. It was a perfect size.
"I can't wait to marry you..." link whispered, never letting go of my hands.
