Trial 1 (Part One)

A/N: this will be in third person. I'll try my best in writing the trial. I'm not a professional. Just be warned of cringe.

(Third Person)

"So where do we need to go for the "class trial?'" Hiyoko asked, putting Class trial in air quotes. "I don't think Monokuma specified where," Chiaki said. Just then a screen appeared with Monokuma sitting in a chair holding a wine glass. "Everyone head to Monokuma rock and wait for further instructions," he chirped happily and the screen disappeared. "Monokuma rock?" Flare asked. "I'm honestly just as confused as you are," Hajime said. "It appears that Monokuma does not want us to be late. But he has not told us exactly where to go," Gundam noted. "I know where to go," a female childish voice said. Monomi popped up, frightening a few people. "Oh Monomi you know where to go?" Chiaki asked. She nodded. There was a silence. "Well I suppose that we should go, whether we like it or not," Nagito said. "It's not like we have a choice," Peko said, narrowing her eyes at the white haired boy. They followed Monomi to a rock sculpture of Monokuma heads. "Way to rub in your ego," Flare muttered. Monokuma popped out of nowhere. "Why thank you for the compliment!" He said, making her jump. "Sugar Honey Iced Tea," Flare muttered angrily under her breath. "Ah ah. I see there is only 15 of you. That is a big nono, all of you have to be present. I'll bring him here don't you worry," Monokuma said and disappeared. "I'm guessing he means Fuyuhiko," Hajime said, his ahoge twitched. "I guess we wait here for him," Chiaki yawned.

(Moments later)

"GET THE HELL OF ME YOU BA(BEEP)!" An angry voice yelled and everyone immediately knew who it was. "I told all of you that class trials are supposed to be mandatory meaning that all of you have to be there," Monokuma explained as he pulled on Fuyuhiko's arm. Fuyuhiko did not seem happy as he got dragged by the teddy bear plush/robot or whatever the hell was Monokuma. "You finally came. Hurray," Hiyoko cheered sarcastically. "Tch I don't even want to be here. I would have still been in my cottage if it wasn't for this fricken bear here!" Fuyuhiko said, folding his arms. "Upupupupu~ now that everyone is here, it's time to enter Monokuma Rock and begin the start trial!" Monokuma cheered. "Umm one problem. How are we supposed to enter the rock?" Mahiru asked. "Just one moment. Now where did I put that control," murmured Monokuma as he made a show of checking his imaginary pockets. Some people gave him a "are you kidding me" look as he did this. Then Monokuma pulled out a remote and pressed a button and the Monokuma heads began to shake. One of them opened its mouth and a giant staircase came out of it, landing in front of Nekomaru and Mikan who let out a terrified shriek. "There we go! Now onto the stairs to go into the elevator to begin the class trial," Monokuma said, happily. "Hey wait a minute. What do I do?" Monomi asked. "Huh?" Monokuma looked confused as the pink and white, diaper wearing rabbit stared at him. "I can't just stand around while my students are being helpless. That is not what a teacher should do. I want to help them," Monomi said, determined. Monokuma thought about it before a smile appeared on his face which creeped many people out including Monomi. "I got a special place for useless sisters. You can be a part of the trial. Just shut your trap and let the others talk," he said. Monomi looked scared but determined to help her students. "Onto the trial. We're wasting time," Monokuma said. Everyone turned to the stairs and began to walk one at a time up said stairs. It led to an elevator and everyone stepped in. They all looked nervous and scared. What would happen when the elevator reached its destination? Chiaki glanced at Flare, whose face was pale. She felt bad. Nobody should have been dragged into this situation. I should say something, she thought and as about to when Nagito beat her to it. Flare was staring at the ground, feeling anxious. She didn't want to do this. What if we get it wrong. Then what happens? She thought, trembling. She felt something on her shoulder and saw that someone put their hand on it and wrapped her into a one arm hug. Flare looked at who it was and it was Nagito. "It's alright. Just breathe," he whispered. Flare took a few deep breath in and out. It eventually calmed her down and she smiled warmly at Nagito. He smiled back. Then the elevator stopped and the doors opened. This was it. One of them is a killer. The rest are innocent for now. Who will lie and who will expose the truth and who will end up with the finishing blow?

"Gather around! Let me explain the rules! It's very simple. All you have to do is to find 'whodunnit.' Vote correctly and I'll only punish the blacken, however if you all vote incorrectly I'll punish all of you minus the blacken. Choose wisely," Monokuma explained. He was sitting on a some sort of throne while Monomi was swinging to his left, all tied up. "Can I be the first to say that why is that there?" Hiyoko asked, pointing to a portrait. It was a portrait of Kazuichi Souda, the victim and it was crossed out. "What the-?" Hajime said, shocked. "What the hell is this?" Fuyuhiko asked angrily. "Upupupu~ I did say everyone have to participate and I wouldn't want him to miss out even though he's dead," Monokuma explained. "That's sick," Flare said. "Meh whatever, just get to your spots and start already," Monokuma said. Everyone did so even though they didn't look happy. "So where do we start?" Sonia asked. "I think we should state our alibis. I was with Hajime most of the time and occasionally went over to talk to Sonia," Chiaki said. "I was in the kitchen the whole time," Teruteru explained. They all stated their alibis. "This is a waste of time. I say Flare did it," Hiyoko said. "What makes you say that?" Flare asked, surprised. "Gee where to start. It was your scarf that was the murder weapon. You have been suspicious ever since you got here, nobody knows where you came from and basically you would have killed anyone here for answers," Hiyoko stated. Flare gave her a small, sarcastic clap. "Great job detective, it doesn't take a genius that it was my scarf that was the murder weapon but here's this one, teeny tiny itty bitty detail that your pea brain has glossed over. I wasn't wearing my scarf when I entered," she said. "Huh?" Hiyoko said. "Yeah that's right! Where was your scarf in the first place?" Mahiru asked. "During the body check, I asked her to take it off because it was a potential murder weapon," Byakuya explained. "Looks like that failed because it was used as a murder weapon. However that doesn't write her off the suspect list," Hiyoko said. "Umm I'm pretty sure I didn't do for I would remember it won't I? I would be singing a different tune," Flare countered. "Lalala! I'm not listening and you won't be able to change my mind!" Hiyoko said, covering her ears. "Do you want to die?" Byakuya asked. "It looks like both of them want to," Peko said, rolling her eyes at the childish behavior of the Traditional Dancer. "Well we have to settle this," Nagito said.

Hiyoko: This has to be the most easiest trial I have ever been in.

Flare: It's the only trial you have been in.

Byakuya: Be quiet you two! We need to find the culprit.

Chiaki: So what do you remember about the blackout Flare?

Flare: Well I heard voices about the blackout and then I fell and can't remember what else.

Hiyoko: Lies! You can't just forget things just like that!

Flare: Geez do you even listen?

Hiyoko: I just know you did it!

Akane: Meh she seems too weak to strangle anyone. Umm no offense Flare.

Flare: I feel attacked for some reason but none taken Akane.

Byakuya: Well? Does nobody have anything else to say in this discussion?

>I feel like we're missing something here. How did Flare not remember what happened during and after the black out?

>Truth Bullet Used on: "Lies! You can't just forget things just like that!<

Hajime: NO THAT'S WRONG!

[Break!]

"Hold up. Didn't you tell me that someone bumped into you and you fell?" Hajime asked. "Huh? Oh yeah, I must have hit my head when I fell," Flare said. "That must be it! The reason why she couldn't remember anything was because she passed out due to the fall and hitting her head. Flare is innocent," Hajime stated. "Wow that sounds so professional of you Hajime. So that means we can cross Flare off the suspect list right Hiyoko?" Nagito looked at the blond pigtailed girl. "Pfft fine. Whatever," Hiyoko pouted. "So what's up with the knife?" Mahiru asked. "Huh knife?" Akane asked. "That couldn't have been the murder weapon. Byakuya cleared all dangerous weapons with the exception of the scarf. Why was it even there?" Sonia asked. Well I remember Teruteru mentioning something about this. He talked about...
A. Cooking

B. Perverted things

[C. Unconfiscated Knife Case]

D. Meat on the bone

I got it.

"Oi Teruteru. Remember when you said about the unconfiscated knife case? About you not noticing it there until after the party has started?" Flare questioned. "Yes I remember that. Looks like you failed on that Byakuya," Teruteru said. "Well I checked for dangerous weapons here while Nagito and Flare were cleaning and saw nothing," Byakuya said. "So someone must have hid it. Our current suspects would be Hiyoko, Mahiru, Teruteru, and Nagito since they were there at the time. Byakuya is cleared because his careful searching and we already cleared Flare up," Chiaki said. "Nu-uh. I didn't do it and don't think Mahiru did it too!" Hiyoko said. "Do you have any proof that you didn't do it?" Nagito asked. "Of course, I'm couldn't have reached to strangle Kazuichi," Hiyoko said. "Weak argument but it may makes sense," Byakuya said. "How did the knife even get there anyway?" Peko asked. The knife got there under the table and was held up by...
A. Magic

[B. Tape from Super Market]

C. Aliens

D. String

I got it.

"When I searched the table around Kazuichi's body, I noticed tape on there. So it must have come from the knife case and held onto the table by the tape from the super market," Hajime said. "There's tape in the super market?" Ibuki asked. "Oh I remember when I was there with Chiaki. There was an aisle where you can find stuff like tape," Flare said. "So the culprit had to be there to hide the knife case and know that there was tape in the super market. If we haven't cleared Flare up already, she would have been the most suspicious but I can only think of one more person who could have done it," Byakuya said. Flare said nothing to this. "Oh that's right! There is one person who knows where the tape was," Chiaki said, looking like she remembered.

"Nagito why did you do it?" Hajime asked. "Hmm?" Nagito looked confused as he tilted his head. "Don't act stupid. You're the only one whose name overlaps with the evidence," Byakuya explained. "How do you know I was even in the super market?" Nagito asked. "Weren't you and Flare talking there when we went to get snacks?" Chiaki asked. "Yeah...I remember him being there," Flare said in a low voice. "You were there at the super market and was here before the party. Flare left first so she couldn't have time to hide the knife case and place one under the table. You left after a while," Akane noted. "I-I just needed to check on something. Double check if it was clean," Nagito explained, looking scared as he tried to defend himself. "You probably had something to see to stab someone but then Kazuichi tried to stop you and then...You used the scarf to strangle him!" Hiyoko said in a finishing tone. "Explain how? How would I have known where the knife was and the scarf?" Nagito asked. "I'm sure someone has an answer for that," Hiyoko said.

Nagito: Explain to me that in pure darkness, how I was able to navigate through to strangle Kazuichi?

Hiyoko: You probably had a light that we couldn't have seen.

Nagito: That's a weak argument you know?

Chiaki: Well he could have used something like...a lamp cord to guide his way through.

Byakuya: That's a possibility.

Nagito: Even if I did use something like that, how was I able to see the knife? I still couldn't have seen it.

Flare: ... Didn't Kazuichi die from strangulation? We'd be back on square one if we change our view of the murder weapon.

Akane: It has to be Nagito. Or maybe he could have had someone fake strangle Kazuichi so he could have the finishing blow!

Hiyoko: Come on! Just admit it already!

>I may not have an answer on how would he be able to navigate through the dark but I'm sure there's an explanation on how he would be able to see the knife.

>Truth Bullet Used on: "I still couldn't have seen it."

Hajime: NO THAT'S WRONG!

[Break!]

"I'm going back to my investigation from under the table. When I saw the tape, not only was there blood but there was some mysterious green goo on it. I suspect that it glows in the dark so Nagito could have seen it while searching for it," Hajime said. Nagito's eyes widen at this but he said nothing. "So we can theorize that Nagito guided himself with like a lamp cord to the table and then see the knife covered in the green goo to grab it and attack the closest person which unfortunately was Kazuichi," Chiaki said. "So it seems like the culprit was indeed Nagito," Gundam said. Nagito said nothing. "Umm aren't you going to say anything?" Ibuki asked, concerned. Nagito began to tremble. "Aww he's scared for his life. Just admit it," Hiyoko said. "Hey Nagi-," Flare said but was cut of by laughter. Nagito was...laughing? "What the hell? This guy is insane!" Fuyuhiko yelled. "Why is he laughing?" Mahiru asked, scared. "This...is wonderful. The Ultimates are fighting despair in the name of hope. It is a honor for such trash like me to be apart of this. I have become a stepping stone in the name of hope," Nagito rasped. He looked up and what was in his eyes shocked many.

(I tried. Not my best work but I had like many tries and this one was my best work out of the many eye tries.)

His eyes were not his usual greenish grey (very unsure of his eye color). Instead, they were a dull swirled grey, white and black. Like hope and despair mixed up together. Like a painting of hope fighting despair. It was a truly terrifying sight to see and every student there felt like there was ice was crawling on their spine. "It was me! I orchestrated Kazuichi's death. I placed the knife there. I caused the blackout," Nagito laughed like it was nothing. "Nagito...you were so nice when we first arrived. Why are you acting like this?" Hajime asked, feeling betrayed. "It was all in the name of H O P E. I wanted to become a stepping stone for all of you! I know trash like me can't do a single thing but allow me to help you get out of this island by becoming a killing stepping stone," Nagito explained. "This Fu(BEEP) Ba** is Fu** insane. Let's vote him off already!" Fuyuhiko snapped. "Monokuma! Just allow the voting to begin!" Ibuki cried. Nagito kept laughing his head off, it was complete chaos. Until...

"Wait. I know he didn't do it," Flare said, shyly. "Huh what makes you say that?" Hajime asked. Everyone turned to look at her. Flare looked at the floor as she started to talk. "W-w-well I k-know this sounds insane after the stunt he just pulled b-b-but I got evidence that Nagito didn't murder Kazuichi directly," Flare stuttered. "Geez just hurry up and speak normally or you'll sound like Fat Legs here," Hiyoko said. "What's w-w-wrong w-with the way I t-t-t-talk?" Mikan asked. "J-just shut up and let me talk!" Flare yelled, causing an eye roll from Hiyoko and a scared yelp from Mikan. "If he did use a lamp cord to guide his way to the table, then how did Kazuichi get strangled?" Flare asked. "Well he obviously used an accomplice before he delivered the finishing blow," Akane said. "Who would ever go ahead on agreeing to this plan? I'm sure unless there was a push involved, that none of you would kill if you could help it," Flare pointed out. "There is no way someone else did it. I don't want to believe that," Hajime said, raising his voice. "Then rebuttal my argument. If you truly believe that, fine by me but unlike some people here, I don't want us to die. I'll clear a path for you all to see the truth!" Flare shouted.

Hajime: I don't want to believe that someone would kill Kazuichi like that. Trust me I want us all to live but forcing us to believe your words isn't the way to go. Please just...don't make this harder than it already is. Nagito himself already confessed so please just let us vote and get this trial over with

[Advance]

Flare: Believe me this is hard for me to do. But I'm left with little choice. If I don't expose the truth now, all of us will die. I'm not letting anyone die innocently like that on my watch.

Hajime: But how? What evidence do you have to prove Nagito's innocence? He admitted to doing the task himself. Isn't that enough evidence?

[Advance]

Flare: And I thought you'd be able to handle a trial but looks like I was wrong. Just listen. I don't want to do this but I have to for our sake.

>Truth Blade Used on: "What evidence do you have to prove Nagito's innocence?"

Flare: ALLOW ME TO CUT THROUGH YOUR WORDS!

[Break]

"The table where Byakuya put my scarf was far away from the table where the murder happened and where Nagito was. There would be no way that he would be able to know where it would be. Besides, the file clearly says that Kazuichi died from strangulation isn't that right Monokuma?" Flare explained, then she turned to the bear. "Usually I can't say anything about this but since this trial is becoming more interesting...yep you are absolutely correct! Kazuichi Souda died from strangulation and not a knife wound!" Monokuma said. "How can you say that in such a cheerful manner?" Monomi cried. "See? If Nagito were the culprit, he would have used the knife and not my scarf. Besides the Monokuma File clearly says that the murder weapon was the scarf. The knife was nowhere to be found on the file," Flare explained.

Hajime stayed quiet as he thought about it. "That...actually makes a lot more sense," he finally said. "Wait are we just going to allow him to get away with this?" Fuyuhiko asked angrily. "I don't wish to believe that but I detect no lies coming from Flare so it must be the truth," Peko said. "Unfortunately my plan of committed the murder myself had failed but someone else carried out the deed," Nagito said. "Hey can you tell us who did it?" Ibuki asked. Nagito merely shrugged, "It was far too dark and I could only guide myself with the lamp cord and the goo. I couldn't see who killed Kazuichi." "Then you are truly useless," Hiyoko said. "Heh, I'm aware of that fact," Nagito softly chuckled. "I have a few suspicions. Hey Teruteru can you explain to me why the white sheet was missing?" Flare asked. "I already told you. I don't know, it was far too dark to see," he replied. "Then how did it go missing? Seems awfully suspicious if you ask me," Flare pointed out. "Wait you're not saying he did it?" Akane asked. "I'm just clearing the air. I'm pretty sure you got involved with Kazuichi's murder like how Nagito got involved. While you may not have directly killed him, you played some sort of role," Flare said. "No no no. False! I didn't do nuthing," Teruteru said too quickly. "Huh? What's up with the sudden change of tone?" Hiyoko asked. "I swear I didn't do nuthin' to Kazuichi. That is the truth. I swear, I swear!" Teruteru shouted. "Flare what's the point of interrogating Teruteru? Do you have something in mind?" Chiaki asked. "I want an explanation for the blood on the sheets and the knife. I'm sure that Teruteru got involved somehow," Flare explained. "Geez why can't you give us a straight answer already?" Hiyoko asked. "No, I can see where this is going. You're clearing the suspects list and narrowing it down to one person. For that you need to clear someone who's alibi doesn't seem to stick," Peko said. "Oh that's right! Nobody was in the kitchen with Teruteru so his alibi isn't strong enough," Hajime said. "While I think Teruteru didn't actually murder Kazuichi, I know he caused it," Flare explained. "You're not makin' any sense. Let me hear your argument!" Teruteru yelled. "I don't want to be against you but how would he navigate through the dark? And without us seeing him?" Mahiru asked. I need to convince them that Teruteru was apart of Kazuichi's death. I think I got it!

"When I investigated the kitchen, I noticed a portable stove was there. When I picked it up, the surface was still hot. I thought that since he's the Ultimate Cook, Teruteru should known better than to leave the stove like that. However, I realized that it could have been used as a light source. When I asked Teruteru this, he said that the light was too weak, but that it was a possibility that it could be used for traveling in the dark. Teruteru probably used the stove for a light source," Flare explained. "Wow sounding like a real detective. You should feel real proud," Nagito said, giving her a soft applause. Flare didn't look in his direction. "So what if I did use it for a ligh' source? That still don' explain why that sheet was missin'!" Teruteru yelled. Flare stayed quiet as she thought about it. "Guess we'll find out," she said slowly. "Hey aren't you supposed to tell us?" Hiyoko asked. "I wasn't the only one who did investigation. I'm sure someone else who did investigation has the answer to that," Flare explained, making Hiyoko angry.

Flare: I basically saved you guys from ending the trial prematurely. Be grateful that none of us are dead.

Byakuya: That's beside the point. How is Teruteru involved with Kazuichi's murder?

Ibuki: Ooh I know! Maybe he was like an accomplice or something.

Peko: Or something? If only we knew where that white sheet that Flare brought up is.

Nekomaru: How will that help us?

Hiyoko: I'm pretty sure she's just stalling for time.

Just give me a second," she looked through her camera and then held it up so everyone could see. "Wait there's a path under the floor?" Ibuki asked. "It appears so. That must mean that I probably wasn't hallucinating the light from under the floorboards," Peko said. "That F** pervert!" Fuyuhiko said angrily. "There it is. That clears him up from being another suspect," Hajime said. "So wait Teruteru didn't do it?" Akane asked. "It appears that Teruteru may have not done it but we have an explanation for where he was," Gundam said. "That still doesn't answer the question of who actually killed Kazuichi," Hiyoko said. "There is one person who could have done it. We now know Nagito and Teruteru's roles and we should find out the culprit," Flare said. "Ok but who did it?" Hiyoko asked impatiently. Hajime's face turned pale with realization. "Looks like Hajime has also caught on," Nagito said which caused someone to yell "Shut up," at him. Probably Fuyuhiko to be honest. "Do you want to say it or should I?" Flare asked. "...Just tell them already," Hajime said as he lowered his head. "Hey what's up with that look of defeat?" Akane asked. "Does that mean he did it?" Mahiru asked. "Actually, it's someone that we were supposed to trust. Someone who was supposed to lead you all," Flare said.

"It was you Byakuya Togami!" Flare shouted, pointing at him. There was silence. Just silence. Until...

"Don't be ridiculous. Do you seriously want us to all die?!" Byakuya shouted, gripped onto the podium.

A/N: Longest chapter I have ever written in any of my books let's go! I'll be splitting the trial in two parts.

Edit: 12/28. Probably should have split this into multiple parts instead of having to write 4,000+ words. Would have been much easier but no. Past me just had to make it hard on me. Good grief 😓
