Chapter 30: Baby Driver
"Be like snow, cold but beautiful"
- Lana del Rey

"What's the plan?" Ember asked Peter, running out of the parking lot, dressed on her brand new suit. Peter turned to look at her and he had to say the new suit was very flattering, the silver material hugged her body in all the right places. She looked like a real hero, her days of using an old cloak as her suit long gone. Noticing Peter's lingering stare, she chuckled and leaned against the wall next to them, posing just like he did once at the Berlin airport after he got his improved suit. "Long time no see, what do you think about the new suit"

Peter smiled, remembering when he said almost those exact words to her months ago. "To me you still look like a Disney Princess" he mocked her smiling in delight when she let out a little chuckle.

"Very funny, Peter" She smiled at him, and it felt like things were going back to how they used to be. They were both starting to feel comfortable with each other like nothing had changed. Ember shook her head little to stop thinking too much about how pretty Peter's eyes were an focus on the more urgent matter. "Now about that plan?"

"Right, so," Peter began, starting to walk with the blonde following him closely listening to his explanation. "I left my phone on Toomes' car, hopefully we can track him before he gets on that plane"

"Genius. Race you there?" Ember said, flicking her wrists going full Ice Sorceress.

"I have a better idea" Peter said looking at the car turning the corner as an idea popped into his head. "Just follow my lead" he said before suddenly shooting one of his spiderwebs to the lamp post above them. He grabbed her by the waist, which caused a little yelp to come from her lips before he swung them through the night sky.

The two teens landed on top of a car, the sudden halt making Ember untangle her arms from Peter's neck while he kept his arm around her wrist to help steady her. Ember realized they had landed on top of Flash Thompson's car were said boy and his very annoyed looking date stared at the two heroes in shock. Ember had absolutely no idea what Peter's plan was but for once she decided to listen to him and follow his lead. She turned to look at the two teens with threatening glowing white eyes, trying to ignore the fact that Peter's hand was still on her side.

"Flash, I need your car and phone" Peter said, making his voice sound more raspy and threateningly effectively scaring the crap out of his longtime bully.
Flash gulped nervously looking from one hero to the other trying to find his voice "Sir, technically, this is my dad's car, sir. So I can't-"

His explanation got cut off by a small blast of ice landing right beside his head. "You heard him, keys and phone" Flash gave Ice Sorceress his full attention nodding but still not moving from his seat. "Now" Ember said sternly raising her glowing hand which immediately made Flash snap out of it and fetch the things they wanted, his date didn't need to be told twice and she was already out of the car. Flash shakily handed them his phone and keys. Peter wasted no time snatching them from his hands and the two heroes barely gave him enough time to get out of his car before the two where speeding out of there trying to control their chuckles as half of the school watched the scene unfold.

"You know we could've just used my phone right?" Ember said, just as he began driving.

Peter shrugged "This was more fun" He chuckled, grabbing Flash's phone and beginning to dial.

"Hey watch out!" Ember screamed, feeling her heart almost going out of her chest, grabbing the wheel and moving it before they hit the bikes parked on the sidewalk. "Don't text and drive, are you crazy?"

"Right, sorry" Peter mumbled nervously handing her Flash's phone and asking her to dial Ned.

"Hello, Ned?" She said into the phone after it rang a couple of times.

"Put it on speaker" Peter asked her, she raised a hand at him shushing him but did as the boy asked anyways. "Eyes on the road pretty boy"

"Go for Ned" Ned's voice said, surprisingly calm after what just happened less than ten minutes ago.

"Ned, I need you-" Peter began to say but received a slap on his arm after he almost crashed into a dumpster.

"You drive, I talk" Ember ordered him, not ready to die because of his bad driving. "We need you to track Peter's phone" she told Ned after making sure Peter wasn't going to kill them.

"Yeah, but where is it?" Ned asked, and Ember gave him a quick run down of the situation "Genius move." He said, as he began typing in the computer to do as he was told. "Okay, he just passed the GameStop on Jackson Avenue"

"Hey, where are the headlights on this thing? I'm in Flash's car." Peter said as he abruptly changed lanes, which earned him another slap on the arm followed by a frustrated "Peter!" from the blonde next to him who looked like she was about to throw up.

"I'll pull the specs. You guys stole Flash's car. Awesome." Ned praised them with a chuckle, going from computer to computer to try and get the job done.

"I thought so too, until I saw what a bad driver he was!" Ember complained, leaning her head out the window as she felt the nausea coming up her throat, until she screamed when she saw they were about to hit a bus.

"Get out of the way, get out of the way! Move!" Peter began shouting franticly, avoiding all the vehicles in the avenue, reaching out his arm so that it was in front of the girl protectively.

Of course, that didn't role well with still panicking blonde who quickly slapped him out of the way. "Hands on the wheel, Parker"

"Are you two okay?" Ned asked worryingly, after hearing all the screaming that was happening on their side.

"I've never driven before only with May in parking lots. This is a huge step up" Peter explained to his two friends, once again avoiding an oncoming car.

His words not calming Ember down in the slightest "Wait what?" She cried out, she could tell he was a bad driver but if she had known he never actually drove before she would have just followed him sliding on ice "And... I'm gonna die"

"Relax I've never hit anything before" Peter said to her.

"I swear to god if I die because of your driving-" Ember snapped at him holding onto her seat for dear life.

"Well do you know how to drive?" Peter snapped back, narrowly avoiding hitting another car.

"No! But this was your stupid idea" Ember shouted, her glowing white eyes throwing daggers at him.

"Are you two done fighting like an old married couple or should I call later" Ned chuckled from the other end of phone.

Rolling her eyes at the little comment Ember decided to ignore it. "Have you gotten through to Happy yet?" She asked him, hoping he could do what they asked before leaving him at the school.

"Yeah, I'm working on it. I just gotta backdoor the phone system." He answered as he kept typing, before going silent for a minute.

"Hey, Ned, how we coming on with those headlights?" Peter said both him and Ember more relaxed after it seemed like the brunet started to get a hang of things and they hadn't been close to death in at leas t a minute.

"Round knob to the left of the steering wheel, turn clockwise." Ned instructed him, then, going to the other computer to see where the phone was "He stopped in an old industrial park in Brooklyn."

" We would he do that of he's going out of town?" Ember asked, voicing out Peter's exact thoughts,

"It makes no sense" he nodded in understanding just as confused as her.

"Oh, I reached Mr. Happy. Don't think he likes you, by the way." Ned said, gaining back their attention "It sounded like he was catching a flight. He said something about taking off in nine minutes. He was surrounded by boxes."

Peter's eyes snapped wide open as realization downed on him. "It's moving day" he said in panic.

"What?" Ember asked, puzzled as to what he was on about.

"Mr. Stark is moving his stuff out of Avenger Tower today, he's gonna rob that plane." Peter explained talking very quickly.

"In that case I know I'm gonna regret this but go faster!" Ember ordered, grabbing onto her seat even tighter and squeezing her eyes shut awaiting their possible end.

"As you wish, your majesty" Peter chuckled, doing as he was told and pressing even harder on the gas.

"Okay, slow down, you're getting close. It's on your right." Ned told them , but the two didn't listen to what he said, Ember was too busy focusing on not throwing up while Peter was focusing on not killing them. "Turn right!" Ned shouted, watching as they were about to pass their turn.
Thinking quickly, Peter once again put his arm in front of Ember and shot a web to the lamppost next to the turn he just missed. The car swayed violently to the right, making Ember's eyes snap wide open to see the stunt Peter had just pulled, as he let out a scream watching the car about to flip upside down. Grabbing tightly to his hand with one hand Ember lifted her free hand and sent a blast to the asphalt to her right, effectively managing to send the car back to it's four wheels, she then let go of Peter and used that hand to freeze the tires and stop them from moving. Both teens sat there gasping for air, until Ember turned to him and flicked him on the head.

"Ouch!" Peter complained, the blonde ignored him and decided to flick him one last time just for good measure.

"I'm never getting on a car with you again" Ember told him, getting out of the car as fast as possible.

Peter and Ember stood on top of the warehouse, trying to catch a sound ir any kind of activity going in inside, but there was nothing. Maybe they were too late or maybe they were at the wrong place either way they had to be sure, after all it was the only lead they had. With a defeated sigh, Peter began lifting a part of the ceiling, not making any sound that could alert anyone who could possibly be inside.

"Are you ready?" Peter asked her with a whisper.

Ember nodded taking the hand he was offering to pull her closer. She put her arms round his neck and he held onto her waist with one arm while the other held the spider web attached to the roof. Peter pulled once in the web to ensure it wouldn't fall apart, Ember glanced at him thoughtfully. Even if she couldn't see his face underneath the mask she just knew he was making the expression he always made when he was focused. She could imagine his frowned eyebrows, his lips tightly closed as his deep brown eyes took everything in, and in that moment she felt stupid. She didn't feel stupid for knowing little details about him but she felt stupid for letting their fight go on for so long. They were sort of okay now but it still wasn't quite what it used to be. This wasn't her first mission, she knew that but no matter how small the mission was there was always the slight chance of one of them getting hurt, and if she was about to get hurt she wanted to at least let him know were she stands. But there wasn't enough time for that, so, the blonde settled for placing her cold lips on his cheeks hoping he would understand what she wanted to say. All was forgiven.

Even if her lips hadn't even touched his face because of his mask his cheek still tingled at her touch, he turned his face to look at her, watching her lovely bright smile on her lips, even when her eyes were glowing white and her face was almost frosted when she was on Ice Sorceress form, still, to him she looked beautiful. Cold and deathly but still undeniably beautiful.

"Good luck" she whispered, leaning her head in his shoulder as he beagn to lower them down to the ground.

The two landed making no sound. The werehouse was dark and very silent, they almost belived they were in fact in the wrong place, but as they looked around and noticed all the tech hiding there they knew Toomes had to be close. Especially when they noticed the familiar Vulture wings standing tall and pround almost like a trophy in the middle of the room. Hearing a distante clink, Ember turned to Peter and signaled him to go around. Following her lead Peter went down the hall as she dod the same across from him blending in the shadows.

"Hey!" Peter called out, spotting Adrian Toomes appearing to be working on something in the middle of the warehouse
"Surprised?"

"Oh, hey, Pete, Ember" Toomes replied, letting the hidden girl know he already knew she was there and they didn't have the element of surprise. Peter turned to where she was hidden, nodding slightly telling her to come out. "I didn't hear you come in"

"It's over. W've got you." Peter said, both heroes walking to stand right in front of Toomes, who barely spared them a glance while he put on his jacket.

"You know, I gotta tell you, kids" Tommes chuckled leaning against the desk without a care in the world, something about the was he was acting didn't settle right with Ember. For a man who was potentially about to lose everything has was being very smug about the whole situation, either he really underestimated them, or he had a plan. Ember, looked around , trying to think what his escape plan could be, drowning out his voice.

"How could you do this to Liz?" Peter asked, gaining the young blonde's attention. Just for a second he forgot about her newly found friend and the fact that the guy they were fighting against was her father. Liz was nothing like her father, she was the definition of good and kind, her father was cunning and vile he didnt even care about killing a couple of teenagers who ere friends with his daughter, he only cared about his so called business.

"I'm not doing anything to her, Pete. I'm doing this for her."

"Yeah. Right" Ember muttered, raising her hands and freezing his feet to the ground while Peter took care of webbing his hand to the desk.

"You two are young. You don't understand
how the world works." He continued, shaking his head like a parent does when he is disappointed in you. The way he talked trying to convince them that he was in the right, but the they knew better.

"But I understand that selling weapons
to criminals is wrong." Peter retorted, staring down at him, not backing down.

"How do you think your buddy Stark paid for that tower? Or any of his little toys?
Those people, those people up there the rich and the powerful, they do whatever they want. They don't care about us. We build their roads, and we fight all their wars and everything, but they don't care about us. We have to pick up after them. We have to eat their table scraps. That's how it is. I know you know what I'm talking about, Peter." Toomes said, watching the boy glance to the side ignoring his words. "Both of you do" he added giving Ember a look that said he knew about her struggles.

"Are you done? Cause your sob story is getting a little boring" Ember snapped, glaring at him from even insinuating he had any right to bring up her life like that. She knew what he was talking about, her family had struggled just like Peter's had, but Toomes really knew anything about them he would understand that their past only made them want to do better and nit just go down the easy path like he had.

"Yeah, I'm done I just needed a little time to get her airborne." Toomes chuckled giving her one annoyed look.

Not giving them any chance to react, Toomes grabbed one of the weapons lying behind him firing an energy blast towards the blonde girl. Ember reacted quickly and dropped to ground watching the blast intended to hit her fly right through the column were she stood just a mere second ago. The Vulture wasn't aiming to hurt he was definitely in it to kill.

"Watch out!" Ember screamed at Peter just as she landed on her side, watching as the Vulture wings came soaring through the air. Peter did a backflip, jumping over the huge wings as Ember rolled to the side to avoid getting hit. Their focus was on trying to not get hit by the machine which was way neither of them noticed how the sharp ends of the wings had managed to free Toomes' feet from the ice, or how he used a knife to get his hand out of Spider-mans web. Ember blasted a blizzard straight to the wings, effectively seeming to stop them before they could even come close to either her or Peter.

"I'm sorry, kids" Toomes told them, unbothered by the fact that his machine was death on the ground.

"What are you talking about? That thing didn't even touch us." Peter chuckled, him and Ember standing almost side to side ready to take on the villain together.

"True" Toomes nodded, slowly reaching for something inside his pocket without the other two noticing. "Then again wasn't really trying to"

He suddenly threw some kind of magnet to the roof above their heads. Ember recognized the tiny device as the one Meg's partner had used on the persecution days ago, her eyes widening knowing what was about to happen. Before she even got a chance to get a warning out it was to late and the entire structure crumbled  above their heads.
