George hadn't told anyone about the letter for two days now. George wanted to tell his husband more than anything but everytime he tried to, he got nervous and backed out. George got scared because he didn't know how Ringo would react.
George could tell Ringo was noticing a difference in him too. Ringo noticed that George all of a sudden became distant. Everytime time Ringo asked him a question all he got was a simple yes or no and nothing more. And whenever Ringo would lean in to kiss George, he would never kiss him back.
George knew he had to tell Ringo soon or else it would drive both of them insane. So George made reservations at a restaurant and after dinner George would tell him. No backing out.
George and Ringo were laying in bed, about to go to sleep. George was reading a book and Ringo was flipping through channels on the TV. Usually they would be deep in a conversation or cuddling but with everything going on there was no way that would happen.
George closed his book and put it on his nightstand.
George sighed. "Ritchie I'm sorry."
Ritchie turned his head to George immediately. "What?"
George took Ringo's hand and intertwined their fingers. "I'm sorry that I've been distant lately. It's just have had alot on my mind. And I want to tell you, I really do but I just get so nervous."
George broke eye contact with Ringo and looked down with shame. Ringo frowned sadly. Then he brought George's hand up to his mouth and kissed his hand.
"Geo I don't want you to feel like you can't talk to me. I'm happy you told me something was bothering you. And I want you to tell me whenever you are ready. When you are ready, I will gladly listen." He smiled trying to make George feel better.
George squeezed Ringo's hand. "Well Actually I will tell you tomorrow." He smirked. "I made reservations for dinner tomorrow night."
Ringo grinned from ear to ear. "Really?" George nodded grinning as well.
Ringo sat straight up. "I can't sleep now. I need to think of something to wear tomorrow."
George laughed for what felt like the first time in awhile.
The next night George and Ringo were getting ready to leave the house to go to the restaurant. John and Paul were babysitting the kids.
"Are you sure you have everything?" Ringo asked John and Paul worridly.
"Yes we do." John said annoyed.
"You have the baby formula?" Ringo asked for what felt like the hundredth time.
Paul put his hand on Ringo's shoulder. "We have everything. Don't worry about us. Now you and George go have fun."
Ringo sighed and George took his hand. "Let's go Sweetheart. We have to be there for a certain time."
George and Ringo said their goodbyes are walked out the door.
"I thought they would never leave." John chuckled and Paul laughed along.
"Escuse me." Beneath them came a small sweet voice. Lee was standing in front of them beaming.
"Can one of you please braid my hair?"
Paul and John looked at eachother and then back at Lee. Paul kneeled down so he was eye level with Lee.
"I don't think we can do that sweetheart."
Lee folded her arms and started to whine. That turned into a full tantrum.
"Paul do something!" John whispered.
Paul panicked. "Um I guess I could look up something on Google. Would that work?"
Lee stopped crying and smiled. "Yes. Thank you Uncle Paul!"
Lee ran off and Paul smirked at John. "She likes me better y'know"
John rolled his eyes. "Shut up"
Back at the restaurant George and Ringo were having a great time. George had totally forgotten about all of his troubles but it was always there in the back of his mind.
Ringo had completely forgotten too. He was to busy having fun to realize that they were there for an important reason.
George and Ringo were driving home from dinner and Ringo had fallen asleep in the car. George gripped tight onto the steering wheel and sighed. He looked over at Ringo sleeping soundly next to him. George couldn't help but realize that he looked so innocent not knowing that George would be gone in less than a week.
George took one hand off the steering wheel and rubbed his face. How on earth was he going to tell him?
How on earth was he going to leave him?
George pulled over to the side of the road. He made sure Ringo was fast asleep and then he rested his head on the steering wheel.
I don't want to say goodbye to the one person who I want to spend the rest of my life with. I don't want him to lose his happiness either. I never want a day to go by where Ritchie wakes up and I'm not there.
I don't want my little kids to lose their father either. Will they ever forget me if I die?
No. I can't do this to myself. I will make it out of this thing alive. I have too. For my family.
Silent tears started to fall from George's eyes. He didn't do anything except sit there and cry.
That went on for a few minutes. Then George rubbed his eyes and composed himself. He looked over and Ringo was still sleeping, having no idea what just went on. No idea of what George's thoughts were.
George continued the drive home and Ringo eventually woke up. When George pulled into the driveway, Ringo let out a big yawn. "Did I fall asleep for the whole ride?"
George got out the car and Ringo did the same. "Yeah but it's okay. I understand that you're tired." He said quietly.
George leaned against the car door and looked down. Ringo walked over to where George was and leaned on the car next to him.
"Are you okay?" Ringo asked glancing at George but he still kept his head down.
"I'm alright."
Ringo sighed but then remembered something. "Hey you were going to tell me something tonight. But it's okay if you don't want to tell me now. We have all the time in the world." Ringo smiled in reassurance.
George let a silent tear roll down his cheek at Ringo's last sentence.
Ringo saw it but didn't say anything, afraid it would make George more upset.
George stood up and wiped the tears from his eyes.
"I need to tell you now." George said without a hint of doubt.
Ringo stood up too, ready for what George had to say.
George sighed and reached into his back pocket and took out the letter.
Ringo looked really confused but George reluctantly handed it to him.
Ringo opened the letter with hesitance and George quietly waited for him to finish.
Ringo's expression remained completely blank while he read the letter.
When Ringo was still halfway through the letter, Ringo suddenly shut his eyes closed and tried to hold it in. But they second he did that the tears fell from his eyes like tiny rivers.
He covered his face with his hands and quietly sobbed.
George embraced Ringo in a tight hug trying to protect him from the outside world.
Ringo could not stop the tears from streaming down his face.
"Geo, I love you too much to say Goodbye."
George tightened his grip on Ringo.
"Don't worry Ritchie, I will make you never have to."
"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye bye so hard."
