Chapter 24: Yuki Sato

Your P.O.V:

"Seven, the answer is seven." A girl named Yui answered happily from across the room.

You and math in general were never one to get along much, and Yui showing off her intelligence didn't make you feel much better.

"That's correct," You teacher responded with a small smile.

You rolled your eyes, and began doodling on your paper.

'This is so dumb.. when am I ever gonna need this in life..?!' You thought angrily to yourself.

"Alright, I'm going to pass back the test you took last class. Most of you did fairly well." Your teacher announced, beginning to pass everyone their tests.

You cringed a bit, and blew a strand of hair out of your face.

'Just great,'

Minute by minute you were becoming more and more irritated.

Your teacher reached you at last, her eyes lowering as she placed your test face down.

You gulped, picking up the edge of the paper with the edge of your fingernails.

'D-'

Your eyes widened at your grade as you gritted yor teeth.

'Mom and Dad are going to kill me,'

Not only was that the only factor of stressing you out, but also you studied your ass off for it. It was frustrating to work so hard and get this score in return.

"(Y/n), what did you get?!" Yuki, a friend of yours, cheerfully asked you from the desk diagonal to yours.

"Yuki.. you're just gonna judge me for it.. " You muttered in disappointment, placing yout test face down once again.

"I won't, besides, chances are I probably did worse than you."

"Really..? What did you get..?" You asked him in curiosity.

"84%... I was really hoping for an A+ this time.." Yuki growled silently.

Your eyes widened at the sound of his score.

"W-when did you get so good at math..?" You asked him in shock.

"I don't know it just all clicks in my head. But I know you got a better score, so why are you even asking me that..?" Yuki said playfully.

You gulped, and then sighed.

"I didn't. I got 63% even though I studied for hours.. my parents are gonna kill me." You explained, your head smacking onto your desk.

Expecting Yuki to silently shun you, you were surprised to feel his hand comforting you.

"Hey.. don't sweat it. It happens even to the best of us," He said as his bright sunset eyes complimented his cheeky smile.

'Suddenly.. Yuki just got really cute.'

Attempting to suppress your blush, you turned his attention away from you.

"Well you're one to talk.. you got a great score! I just wish I was as smart as you. Wait.. actually.. could you tutor me..?!" You asked him excitedly.

His eyes widened in surprise at your sudden eagerness.

"W-well I don't know, (Y/n).. I don't think I'm good enough to tutor you,"
Yuki sputtered, rubbing his neck awkwardly.

"Of course you are! I mean you did awesome on the test! Besides.. I wanna spend more...-more time with you." You managed t finally say, hinting at the fact that you liked him.

"Wow.. I-I mean... yeah, I'll try to tutor you, (Y/n).. I'll do my best." Yukine blushed, giving you a genuine smile.

The bell rung, signaling the end of this period, and the two of you stood up, preparing to head to lunch.

"So.. how about today after school..?" You suggested, shrugging your backpack on your shoulders.

"I don't know.. my dad-"

"Does he not like you having friends over? We don't have to do it at your house, we could always do it at mine." You offered happily.

"N-no.. it's just that-"

"Or do you not wanna meet my family. Is that it?" You asked him with a giggle as he was at a struggle for words.

"No, I-!"

"No more excuses, Yuki. I want you at my house after school at 3:00, okay? We'll only study for about an hour." You patted his back, rushing off to lunch.

"Don't be late!" You called, leaving him in the dust.

"But.. my dad.."
********************************

**3:45 pm**

"And all you have to do is subtract X from here, and that's how you get the answer." Yuki explained, as you felt a wave of success come over you.

"I finally get it! Yuki you're a life saver!" You exclaimed happily, setting your pencil down for a moment.

"All you needed was a little practice, (Y/n). You're actually really smart." Yuki complimented you.

You blushed at his words, and avoided eye contact with him as you pursed your lips.

"Um.. Yuki.. before you go, I have to tell tou something.." You muttered, closing your math-book.

Surprised by the sudden change in the atmosphere, Yuki was nervous to hear what this 'thing' was.

"I-I.. I think I um.. I really like you."

"You do?" Yuki asked as if he was shocked.

"I.. wanna be.. more than friends, if you feel the same way." You explained, tensely twirling a strand of hair around your fingers.

It was silent for a while, the air stiff and the atmosphere brittle.

Oh god I messed up. He doesn't like me that way at all..

"S-sorry. I know you don't feel the same way, I shouldn't even have said tha-"

Cutting you off, was Yuki quickly pressing your lips against his own and immediately retreating.

"Sorry! I shouldn't have done that! I-"

"No.. I liked it. I'm happy you did that.." You interuppted him, giving him a red-faced smile.

"Well I.. I have to get home before my dad gets mad." Yuki said quickly, packing up his things as he stood up.

He walked to the door, and put his hand on handle but stopped as if he'd forgotten something.

"And (Y/n).. I really like you too."

********************************

All that night you'd had butterflies about what happened between you and Yuki.

For crying out loud, the guy you had a crush on like you back!

You were so excited that you practically skipped to school the next morning, more than ready to see Yuki again.

You sat in your seat, waiting for the blonde-haired boy to walk through the door with a cheery smile and beaming sunset irises as he always did, but the bell rang signaling the start of class, and that time never came.

You were disappointed, but you'd known he'd probably missed school for a good reason. He was probably just sick or something.

Your teacher walked in somberly, her eyes puffy as if she had been crying.

Sniffling a bit, she stood at the front of the class, placing her hands together as she began to speak.

"Today, class is a very sad day. I'm very upset to inform you that one of your classmates, Yuki Sato, has.. well he has passed away recently."

Wait..what?

This can't be happening. I saw him yesterday! I-I told him I like him!

"That has to be a mistake, I saw him yesterday!" You said frantically, denying the fact that such a thing could occur.

"I was just notified by authorities this morning. I was told.. that he passed due to the causes of hypothermia." Your teacher explained, everyone in the room completely shocked.

Your eyes welled up with tears as they drifted back to his empty desk.

He walked home alone from my house.. if I had just been there, maybe I.. I could've saved him.

"Today instead of the original lesson plan we will all be writing tributes present at his funeral."

Your teacher was speaking but you had tuned her out. Your heart was beating in your ears and you lost all feeling in your body as tears rolled down your cheeks.

" And (Y/n).. I really like you too,"

You gritted your teeth, choking back your sobs.

"My dad-"

Your eyes widened. His father. He was so worried about him. It had to do wih him!

"Yuki.. his father, he killed him! I know it!" You shouted suddenly, the class turning it's attention to you.

The teacher sighed at your sudden remark.

"(Y/n), now is certainly not the time to be assuming things. It is the time to remember Yuki."

You wanted to scream to her, but maybe.. maybe him coming home late from your house.. maybe his father did something.

So..was it your fault? Had you caused Yuki's death..?

Even after that day, you pondered that question for days. At his funeral, the sight of him with no life tore your heart to pieces as you thought:

I did that.

For weeks even, you thought Yuki had no longer walked on Earth because of you.

Even that day, when you'd drowned. Yuki had still consumed your thoughts. What you didn't know was that in another life, you and Yuki would meet again.

THIS HAS QUITE POSSIBLY GOTTA BE THE SADDEST SHIT I'VE EVER WRITTEN I MEAN MY EYES ARE TEARING UP.. GOODNESS.. Not to mention, the next chapter is the last chapter ever in this series.. gosh guys.. I'd never imagined I'd be ending this story so soon. It was one of my favorites to write.. I started on this series more than a year ago and now its ending. It's bittersweet actually.. I love Noragami.. it's my favorite anime and Yukine is one of my favorite characters. But sadly, reader-chan's adventures with Yukine are about to come to an end. Sniffle sniffle. BUT IT AIN'T OVER YET. SO BUCKLE UP Y'ALL AND GET READY FOR A JAM-PAKED FINALE. I LOVE YOU ALL AND DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT AND VOTE. -Drama Typhoon ♡
